Installation Overview

Install the Software from the Installation CD for Single Users and Multi Users. OD5HTR
installation program checks for supported Operating System, and minimum hard drive space
(250MB required). During the installation, your system may reboot several times, as needed,
depending on what components are being installed (IE6, MDAC, etc.)

IE6 is installed first if it is not already installed on your system. The system then reboots and
continues with the OD5 Heavy Truck installation. At the end of the installation, the program
will prompt you asking whether you would like to start OD5 Heavy Truck program after the
last reboot. Initially, the program is installed as Demonstration Edition for 30-days until you
register for Single User or Multi User license.

An installation log file is created under C:\Windows or C:\WinNT directory depending on the
operating system. The log file name is “HTR32_INSTALL.LOG”
Default program installation directory:


C:\SK5HTR for Shopkey5 Version. The executable is SK5.exe
C:\M1HTR for OnDemand5 Version. The executable is HTR.exe
The following folders and files are installed into this program directory.
►
Backup – Contains information on updated components and/or files and is used
by WISE installation and un-installation software.
►
Cache – Contains Help file and training video files as well as files that as used by
the application during its operation. Files should not be deleted/modified from

this directory. Help files and Training Videos are installed in this folder on all
Machines where the application is installed, whether it’s Single User or Multi
User.
►
Shared – Initially, this directory is empty and is used, by default, for Multi-Users
ONLY to store Shared Host Files and Shared Data files. Even though, this
directory exists on all machines where HTR is installed, the files in this folder are
created only on designated Host Machine for Multi User registration. Single
Users do not use this directory.
 The C:\M1HTR (the root directory) must be shared with full access on the
Host PC for all other workstation to access the shared information (Host files,
Index, and Data files).
 During Multi User registration, a copy of the Control.mdb and Annotation.mdb
files are created and stored in this folder on the Host PC for sharing the
common information across all workstations.
 By default, the Index.mdb and Data files from all 3 Data CDs are also copied,
manually, to this folder on the Host PC for Multi Users to access data across
the network.
 Shared folder path can be viewed at any time after Multi-User setup by going
to Setup> Multi User Data Paths dialog. This dialog shows the location of the
Shared Host Path: and Shared Data Path: These paths are displayed in
UNC format on all workstations even if it is a local Host/Workstation machine.
Contents of the Shared Folder (on Host PC Only):
Control.mdb - created during multi User registration.
Annotation.mdb - created during multi User registration.
.net file - created by the program during multi User registration.
For Multi User registration, the following files are manually copied by the user
from the data CDs into this shared folder.
Index.mdb - copied from data CD by user.
Data_000.mdb - copied from data CD by user.
Data_001.mdb - copied from data CD by user.

machine.
NOTE 2: Data files must also be copied to the C:\M1HTR\Shared Folder on the
designated Host Machine before starting the registration process.
Copy the Data Files to Shared Directory
Multi-user installations require that you copy the data to your hard drive. You cannot
access the data from the CD. The next step in the multi-user installation is to copy your
Data Files to a Shared Directory on the network. Although the shared directory can be
anywhere on the network, Mitchell1 recommends following the convention described in
the following procedure.
Copying the data is done outside of the Heavy Truck program, using Windows files and
folders copying capability. You need to copy a total of four files from the Data CDs:
Index.mdb (from any disc - only copy once)
Data_000.mdb (from Disc 1)
Data_001.mdb (from Disc 2)
Data_002.mdb (from Disc 3)
The Data Files must be copied to a shared location on the network. Mitchell1
recommends that you copy the above listed files to the Shared folder created by the
installation program on your Host PC. C:\M1HTR\Shared folder.

 Reset Application
There are two ways you can clear a security violation.
1. If a security violation is detected due to clock rollback, it can be resolved by correcting the
2.
system date. This can be accomplished by the user without calling Tech Support. You
should be able to access data once you correct the system date.
Use Reset Application option (Requires Tech Support Assistance) if the user doesn’t
remember the date that was on the system before detecting clock rollback.
 Select Setup > Register Product
 Select Register or Upgrade a Product Interactively and click Next>
 Choose Reset Application option ( requires reset system code form Key Generator

Start the application. Security violation should be cleared and you should be able to
access data.
NOTE: if the user rolls the data back several years and gets a Reset Application, the
lease start from the current date on the system to the original lease expiration date.
In Multi-user setup, all workstations are expected to have the same system date.
 Temporary Lease Extension
Temporary extension allows to extend the lease for 15 days from the current date on your
system. Use Register or Upgrade a Product Interactively option. All Users except one
should exit the application before doing a temporary extension in a Multi User setup.
 Select Setup > Register Product
 Select Register or Upgrade a Product Interactively and click Next>
 Choose Temporary Extension option ( requires Temporary Extension code form
Key Generator Utility)
 Enter System ID and Code Entry into Key Generator Utility and click OK

 Click OK on the message “License extended for 15 days.”
 Multi-user Workstation Reset
This option is used to clear any locked multi-user workstation (highly unlikely to be
needed). If this option is used, then all workstations except the one performing the reset
should exit the application. Use the option “Register or Upgrade a Product Interactively”.
 Select Setup > Register Product

 Disc Preferences dialog
This option is found under Setup menu and is used by Single Users only if their computer
has multiple CD/DVD drives. This dialog allows the user to change the Disc Drive option
and select a different drive that is available on their PC where the application can look for
data. Multi Users should not use this dialog.
 Multi User Data Paths dialog
This option is found under Setup menu and is used by Multi Users only to setup the
Shared Host Path and the Shared Data Path for all workstations to access the shared
information. Once the Shared Host Path is setup initially, it should not be changed. The
Shared Data Path may be selected to a different location. However, it is highly
recommended that multi users to keep the same Shared Host Path and Shared Data
Path all the time. If the Shared Data Path is changed during the operation, then all
workstations may need to exit and restart the application for the changes to take effect on
all workstations. This dialog can be accessed at any time under Setup menu from any
workstation to view the Multi User Paths settings.
ClearProduct Utility
To resolve a problem without forcing the user to uninstall and reinstall the program, Use
the ClearProduct.exe utility included in the Utils folder on the installation CD. This utility
is different for both OD5HTR and SK5 HTR. Use this utility from appropriate CDs.
Using clear product utility clears all the user information including database information
and security setting and brings the application back to demonstration mode.
How to Use the ClearProduct Utility:
 All users must exit the application.
 Insert the Installation CD into CD/DVD drive.
 Exit the installation process when welcome screen is displayed.
 Browse to the Utils folder on the Installation CD and run the ClearProduct.exe
 Enter the System ID and Code Entry into the Key Generator utility
 Enter the Reset System code from the Key Generator Utility into the Activation Code
field and click OK
NOTE: if the problem has to do with Multi User, the ClearProduct.exe should be run
on each PC and then make sure you also delete the control.mdb file from the Shared
folder before starting the program after reset.
 Start the application, user should Accept EULA and Enter Shop Information again.
The application should be back to Demonstration Mode. If the user was registered
with SU Leased, Owned, or MU, then you need to go through the registration process
again once you do ClearProduct.exe. Use the option “Register or Upgrade a Product
Interactively”.

Un-installation
For any reason if you need to uninstall OD5 Heavy Truck Program, Use Add / Remove program
from the Control Panel. Uninstall does not remove program directory C:\M1HR or Shared folder if
the Host files are being shared by other workstations. The registry key and the security
information are also not deleted by uninstall. This prevents the user from using Demonstration
Edition over and over again. To resolve any problem with the application, without doing an
uninstall and reinstall, it is recommended that you use the ClearProduct.exe utility included on the
installation CD.
