When a module is provisioned, an identically named recording folder for the module/programme is created on the Panopto web portal. Choosing to save your recordings into this Panopto folder, will provide you with access to them in your programme/module. This should be your first step before making any recordings. Access to video content in these folders is restricted to users enrolled on the module/programme. It is possible to extend access to your folders, see Part 2: Linking to Other Panopto Recordings in Your Module/Programme for the guide on how to do this. Before you start 1. Log in to Course Resources and navigate to the Module/Programme and the content area you want to work on. 2. Make sure Edit Mode is turned on - Turning Edit Mode off will allow you to view the module as the students see it. Edit Mode can be toggled on or off using the button shown below Quick Guide 1. In the Course Resources module, hover mouse pointer over ‘Add Menu Item’ button and Click ‘Tool Link’ 2. Name the Tool Link e.g. Lecture Recordings and choose ‘Panopto Course Tool Application’ from the drop down list. Click the ‘Submit’ button 3. Click on the Tool Link you have created to open the Panopto Focus Content tool and click on the ‘Configure’ button 4. Click on the ‘Add Course to Panopto’ button 5. Click ‘OK’ to confirm the results message 6. Highlight any Available Folders you wish to use with the module and click ‘Add’. Click the ‘Submit’ button. Detailed Guide 1. Click on the Tool Link you have created to open the Panopto Focus Content tool and click on the ‘Configure’ button 4. Click on the ‘Add Course to Panopto’ button 5. Click ‘OK’ to confirm the results message A matching module folder has now been created on the Panopto system that tutors and students enrolled on the module can access. 6. Highlight any Available Folders you wish to use with the module and click Add. Click the ‘Submit’ button. The Configure Panopto Focus Course page will now load. In the box on the right you will see the name of the Panopto folder that is connected to your module/programme. You can add other Panopto folders that you have created so that recordings can be published across modules. Completing this step ensures that students have access to the recordings in those folders. Part 2: Linking to Other Panopto Recordings in Your Module/Programme This guide will show you how to extend access to Panopto videos that are attached to other Course Resources (Blackboard) modules/programmes. You may have recorded lectures in a previous year and wish to republish them to a new cohort of students. Or you may have recorded content with themes common to two or three modules. Before reading this guide, ensure that you have followed the steps in Part 1: Linking Your Course/Programme to the Panopto System for each module/programme you want to extend access to. Before you start 1. See the following guides: Part 1: Linking Your Course/Programme to the Panopto System 2. Log in to Course Resources and navigate to the Module or Programme and the content area you want to work on. 3. Make sure Edit Mode is turned on - Turning Edit Mode off will allow you to view the module as the students see it. Edit Mode can be toggled on or off using the button shown below Quick Guide 1. Open the Panopto Focus Content tool and click on the ‘Configure’ button 2. Highlight any Available Folders you wish to use with the module and click ‘Add’ 3. (Optional) Click the Create New Folder button, enter a folder name and click the OK button. 4. Click Submit Detailed Guide 1. Open the Panopto Focus Content tool and click on the ‘Configure’ button If you have followed the steps in the Part 1: Linking Your Course/Programme to the Panopto System, there will be a hidden link to the Panopto Tool in the Module Menu. Click on this link to open the Panopto Focus Content tool and then click the Configure button. 2. Highlight any Available Folders you wish to use with the module and click Add. Click the ‘Submit’ button The Configure Panopto Focus Course page will now load. You can add other Panopto folders that you have created so that recordings can be published across modules. Completing this step ensures that students have access to the recordings in those folders. 3. (Optional) Click the Create New Folder button, enter a folder name and click the OK button If you intend to distribute videos quite extensively but still need to restrict access there is a potentially easier option for sharing content between several modules. You can create a Panopto folder that is independent from the module/programme where the shared recordings can be uploaded/copied to. Each module/programme then only needs to be connected to this one folder. Click the Create New Folder button, enter a folder name and click the OK button. Follow steps 1,2 and 4 of this guide for each Course Resources module/programme you want to extend access to, adding your newly created folder at step 2. 4. Click ‘Submit’ You will now see the Panopto Focus Content tool page. Notice the tool has now configured the module/programme to give enrolled users access to other Panopto folders.
