School Age Group Purpose Date Preparation Explain principle of session – fun / non competitive / stickers and reward scheme Reinforce basic concepts such as warm / cool down Introduce children to a variety of different sports and movements; it may be helpful to take pictures to help explain Explain purpose of whistle – one blast and they should sit down as fast as possible and be silent! Whistle Water and cups / encourage use of individual water bottles. Bean Bags A Hoop Warm Up The Bean Game Jumping Bean - jump around the room, Runner Bean - run around the room, Jelly Bean - wobble like jelly Chilli Bean - shiver and shake, Frozen Bean - stand still, Spring Bean crouch position and spring up, Full of Beans, dance around energetically Stretches Game of All in Tig Start of with only one chaser, but from there on each person caught also becomes a catcher and helps to catch the others. Activity 1 Apples, Pears & Bananas Activity 2 Steal the Orange Warm Down Using the middle and end lines of a badminton court name the middle line apples and either side pears or bananas Line the group one behind the other on the middle line You call out either apples, pears or bananas and the group must run to the appropriate line If anyone goes to the wrong side then they must perform 5 star jumps and then join the line again The object of Steal the orange is collect the "oranges" (Bean Bags) and bring them back to a hoop placed in the middle of the hall Divide the group into two teams; the members of each team are numbered. They form two opposing lines and place the oranges (bean bags) behind each team, enough to keep the game going for a while You then call out a number and the players on each side who are assigned that number are the players for that round. No other team members leave their side of the field. They must pick up a bean bag from behind their line and run round the hall (behind the opposing group), back to the middle and place the oranges in the hoop before returning to their place in the line You can call more than one number, in which case several players from each side participate. This game should be played until all bean bags are in the middle hoop but can be repeate Pasta Cool Down Spaghetti - walk round the room tall and thin arms pointed together; Tagliatelli - walk round the room arms pointed side by side; Pasta bow - walk around with legs and arms apart, bow shaped; Lasagne - lie flat on the floor, stretch out; macaroni-make a circle with arms; Spaghetti hoops - make a 'hoop' in a small group holding hands; Canneloni - roll on the floor; Ravioli - stand back to back with a partner.
