Sportsmanship Policies 2013-2014 Skyline Sportsmanship Statement: “Each Skyline Conference member institution is to strive to provide the best possible competitive circumstances for student-athletes and is encouraged to participate in post-season competitions as sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the Eastern College Athletic Conference, and other recognized sanctioning bodies. All competitions are to be conducted in a non-discriminatory manner, encouraging enthusiastic support while maintaining good sportsmanship. Coaches and athletes will abide by the letter and spirit of the playing rules and will respect the spirit of competition and participation, regardless of the outcomes of the competitions. The Skyline Conference recommends that the host institution make the following (or similar) public announcement prior to the start of each contest: (Institution Name) and the Skyline Conference promote good Sportsmanship by student-athletes, coaches and spectators. We Request your cooperation by supporting the participants and Officials in a positive manner. Profanity, racial or sexist comments or other intimidating actions directed at officials, student-athletes, coaches or team representatives will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from (the site of the competition). Also you are reminded that the consumption or possession of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products is prohibited” The NCAA, Skyline Conference and Purchase College Athletic Department are concerned about the development, improvement and enhancement of sportsmanship across our entire athletic program. Starting with the education of student-athletes, coaches and spectators, sportsmanship will be a major commitment and educational initiative for the 2009-2010 year and beyond. We want all of our coaches to take the lead on improving sportsmanship across all our teams and keep it as a major theme throughout this season. All studentathletes sign our Code of Conduct and I expect all coaches to support and reinforce all aspects of sportsmanship with their respective teams. To this end we have developed a list of policies that we will follow to reinforce our sportsmanship initiatives. NOTE: All sportsmanship infractions will be reported in real time to the Athletic Director and the President following each game.
