HT Update
Point was raised that delivery vans sometimes block the road. John advised that
parents have to inform the school any time this happens.
FMacE questioned how the gates to the school would lock. John advised that this
was not decided yet, they are waiting on information back from subcontractors.
They need to check safety around the locking mechanism
SM talked through the attached HT report. The teachers would like to thank
parents for the support following the passing of Gillian McGourlick. It was noted
that Gillian had some plans that she wanted to implement in the nursery and the
school intend to follow through on some of these plans eg put in a mud kitchen as
a ‘memorial’. The school are considering other memorial options such as planting
a tree, naming a chair, participating in Race for Life, etc. HA advised that parents
will be happy to donate time/money to such events. It was mentioned that some
mums were going to walk to Quarriers on 13 June to raise funds. CMcF will post on
Twitter to raise support
FMacE thanked the teachers for keeping going during such a difficult period
SM advised that sports day will be an Olympics themed event at the pitch at St
Stephens on 15 June. P1-3 will be in the morning, P4-7 in the afternoon.
Parents/carers are welcome to attend, but unfortunately if it rains, the sports day
will need to be inside and there won’t be space for parents/carers to attend.
SM advised that the next HUB steering committee is on the 21 June and clashes
with the next PP meeting. Kate, Wendy, Claire and Fiona wish to attend the HUB
meeting. Agreed the PP meeting will go ahead on the same day
A day in the Life – GD offered to write a blog post. Mrs McCredie advised that
there is a space at HT tea party tomorrow. 1 parent can attend, on condition they
write a blog post about the experience! JMcC to send email asking if anyone would
like to attend

school with current class sizes. There will be 8 classes, numbers approx. 23.
Discussed how classes are chosen. SM advised that for P1, based on age unless
there is a specific discussion with parents. It was emphasised that even when split
up, individual year groups work together. Except for P1, guidance is that classes
should be determined on language skills. FMcE asked if the school look at how
many years children are in a composite class and WMcK advised that there are
more and more composite classes throughout the school.
FMcE noted how she thinks the composite classes have been positive experiences
and the children work together in the activity areas.
Classes will be advised Wed 25 May. No teachers names, etc. P1 teachers are
sorted to allow for effective nursery inductions.
It was discussed how perceptions are that composite classes are not as good an
experience for the older pupils.
Zara Green was the only parent who attended the self-evaluation session. SM is
going to try and organise another session, maybe get the children to organise to
increase participation.
SM noted that the school appreciate constructive feedback and are going to take
all feedback from post it notes and incorporate in the school improvement plan.
School will feedback results to parents, put on website, etc.
Discussion around improvement plan – should there be something on the plan
that parents led. One of the suggestions was for improving health and wellbeing –
PP to take ownership of organising after school clubs. Was discussed that it can be
very difficult for parents to take ownership of such a project, and was assured that
parents would only have responsibility for getting the timetable of potential
events, not for having responsibility for the clubs running effectively. PP would not
be involved beyond the initial organisation. Claire to find out what clubs on offer
and report to the group. SM to include this in the improvement plan
SM noted that it was observed at the Inverclyde Showcase, that it was evident
that the KPS students had no uniform to the uniform! School are trying to simplify
choices for returning in Oct 2016. Current colour choice is black, navy, grey, tartan.
Aim is not to be too restrained, but to have more limited colours. Point was made
that navy trousers were difficult to source for boys. School will issue selfevaluation form to parents later this week which will ask for opinions on what the
colour choices should be. School will inform parents of the decisions before finish
for the holidays.
