Punctuality
We have noticed that punctuality has been quite poor this week among pupils. Children who are even a
couple of minutes late on a regular basis will be invited in for a meeting with the Head teacher. If
lateness still doesn’t improve you will then be referred to the Legal Intervention Team.
After School Clubs
After school clubs will commence week beginning Monday 16th January. They are funded by the school and
are provided to help children play and learn. Due to limited places in clubs and long reserve lists if your child
does not attend a club on two consecutive occasions they may lose their place. We have tried to ensure all
pupils who have applied for clubs have been allocated a place in at least one club.
Year 2 Visit to Sunderland Winter Gardens
Year 2 visited Sunderland Winter Gardens on Wednesday. Whilst there pupils looked closely at the features of
different animals and made comparisons to themselves. The visit linked to work in Science lessons on animals
and plants. Children enjoyed ‘The Rainforest’ display and took part in an inter-active workshop where they
examined a huge snake skin.
Year 3 Stone Age
As part of design and technology, the children have been learning how to make clothes. They all designed
their own Stone Age outfit using only materials that would have been available during the Stone Age, using
their measuring skills, they measured body parts and drew patterns and they then used the patterns to cut
material and sewed them together to make an outfit that would have been fit for the Stone Age.

Guidance for Parent/Carers regarding 18+ video games
It has been brought to the school’s attention that pupils have been playing 18+ video games at home. In the
UK and Europe, PEGI rates Grand Theft Auto V and other video games as 18+ for “extreme violence, illegal
drug use and strong language”.
Northumbria Police have advised if school have any concerns regarding increased violence or strong
language due to children playing 18+ video games that it could be reported to Social Services.

Dinner Money
School meals cost £10 per week for pupils who do not receive free school meals. This should be paid in
advance of the meal being taken. Money can be paid to the school office, sent into school with your child in a
named envelope or paid online at www.payyourschool.co.uk (Please ask the school office for more details). It
is your responsibility as a parent/carer to ensure your child is adequately fed, it is not the schools
responsibility. Persistent failure to provide either lunch or lunch money may result in a referral to Children’s
Services as a neglect issue. If you think you are entitled to Free School Meals, please
phone 0191 433 3729. This allowance is a statutory right and it is important that you use it if
you qualify. We will help you as much as we can with your application.

Headlice
It has been brought to the school’s attention that there is headlice in the school, therefore you may want to
check your child’s hair regularly. We have also recently been made aware that some Boots pharmacies offer a
Minor Ailments Service. This is an NHS service for people, including children, who don't pay for prescription
charges. It means that if your pharmacist thinks you need a medicine to treat your minor illness, and you are
eligible, they can supply it free of charge.
PE Timetable
It has been noted a number of children are not bringing their PE kits in school for PE. Can you ensure your
child brings in their PE kit every week, white t-shirt, black shorts and trainers/ sandshoes.
