Ourprogramsarefocusedonthedevelopmentofplayers.Everythingwedoshouldbeinthebestinterestofthe
player–buildingboththeirphysicalandsocialabilities.AsaClubweaimtodeliveraconsistentprogramthatisfun
andfairforallourmembers;assuchitisimportantthateveryonefollowthesamesetofrulesandpolicies.The
contentsofthismanualareasmuchforyourbenefitastheyareforthebenefitofallplayers,coaches,and
parents.
Weallhaveadesiretowin.Winningisimportant,butnotatallcosts.Whenyourunasuccessfulteamprogram,
yourplayersnotonlydevelopskillsbutalsobuildcharacter.Makingandlearningfrommistakesisanimportant
partofsoccerdevelopment,andsuccessshouldbemeasuredbytheimprovementofindividualplayersandthe
team,notbythewin/lossrecordornumberofgoalsscored.ThePortMoodySoccerClubisheretoworkwithyou
andtodevelopthefinestsoccerprogrampossible.Whenproblemscomeup,makesurethatyoudonothesitate

Risk Management Policy

Inordertopromotethesafetyofourchildrenplayingthegameofsoccer,BCSAandthePortMoody
SoccerClubhaveadoptedthefollowingobjectives:
•Identifyallcoaches,assistantcoaches,managersandadministrator
•Developandcommunicateriskmanagementguidelinestoallcoaches,assistantcoaches,managers
andadministrators;
•Monitortheimplementationoftheaboveobjectives.
•
TheintentoftheseobjectivesisforBCSAandthePortMoodySoccerClubtoexcludefromparticipationin
BCSAactivitiesallpersonswhoposearisktothesafetyofourplayers,coaches,administratorsand
volunteers.TheRiskManagementCoordinatorisresponsibleforestablishingandmaintainingfilesunder
strictconfidence.Confidentialityisanever-presentandpermanentconcernandwillbestrictlyenforced.
Thisprocessisnecessaryforthesafetyofallyouthplayersinsport.

Allpeopleinteractingwithplayersarerequiredtocompleteacriminalrecordcheck(CRC).Thiscanbe
doneinpersonthroughthepolicedepartmentwhereoneisaresident,orcannowbedoneonline.

Allgirls’teams(andboys’teamsthathaveanyfemaleplayers)musthaveatleastonefemaleonthe

Coachesandparentsneedtobecarefulwhentakingandpostingphotosoftheteam.Photosofchildren
otherthantheirownshouldnotbepublicallysharedwithoutthepermissionofthosechildren’sparents.

6.
Practices
AllteamsareassignedapracticetimeatHeritageWoodsturforPortMoodyTownCentre.Coachesare
encouragedtoprepareapracticesessionapplicabletotheneedsoftheirteam/players.TheClubhasaTechnical
Director,whowillshareanexpectedcurriculumfortheyear.CoachesareencouragedtousetheCoachesPortalon
thePortMoodySoccerWebsitetoaccessdiscussionboards,drillideasandotherresources.
Inadditiontotheregularweeklypractice,teamswillhaveadesignated4v4timefortheirteams.Thishasbeen
includedaspartofeachplayer’sregistration,andplayersareencouragedtoattend.During4v4,playerswillbe
mixedwithotherplayersfromtheirdivision–theywillnotnecessarilyplaywiththeirteammembers.
MSLteamswillreceiveanadditionalonehourtechnicaltrainingsessionrunbytheClub’sstaffcoaches.

Fieldstatus
Allfieldstatusandupdatesarepostedonourwebsitewww.portmoodysoccer.com.Thefieldsmaybeclosedfrom
timetotime(typicallyduetoflooding,frostorsnow),eitherbytheCityorbytheClub.InthecaseoftheClub,the
decisiontocloseafieldismadebytheClubFieldScheduler.TheClubdoestheirbesttodelayfieldclosuresforas
longaspossibleasourweathercanchangequitefrequently.Somefieldclosuredecisionswillnotbemadeuntil
8:30amongamedays.AllmembersoftheClubareaskedtobetolerantinthismatter,foritisoftenadifficultand
lastminutedecisiontomake,andrequiresjudgmenttobalancethewishforallplayerstoplayagainstour
responsibilitytousethefieldsinareasonablefashion.IfthefieldsaretobeclosedbytheCity,thedecisionis
madeonFridayafternoon,and“FieldClosed”signsarepostedononeofthegoals.TheClubFieldSchedulerdoes
havediscretiontoremovethe“FieldClosed”signsandopenthefieldifconditionsdramaticallyimprove.
Ifyourgameiscancelled,pleaseremembertocontactandconfirmthiswiththeopposingcoachbeforeyoustart
contactingyourplayers.Thisincludesnotifyingopposingteamsfromotherclubs,whereapplicable.Ifyouare
playingonafieldthatisnotinPortMoodyagainstateamfromanotherclub,andhaveanyconcernthatthefield
maybeclosed,pleasecontacttheopposing(home)team.Fieldclosureswillnotbecommunicatedtocoaches,and
assucheachcoachshouldmakeitaregularhabittochecktheclubwebsiteandencouragetheirplayers(parents)
todothesame.NotethatiffieldsareclosedinPortMoody,thisdoesnotnecessarilymeanthatother

playingfield.Wecanloseourfieldprivilegesifspectatorsdonotremaininthedesignatedzone.Usethe
signsprovidedtohelpmanagespectators–theseneedtobeputoutbythefirstteamsusingthefieldand
putawaybythelastteam(s)usingthefield.Ifyoudon’tseeanyoneusingthefieldimmediatelyafteryou,

Forallgrassfields,thegoalsmustbelockedupafterthegameunlessthereisfieldhand-offtoanother
PortMoodySoccerClubcoach.Ifthereisnoteamplayingafteryourgame/practice,thenyouare
responsibleformovingthenetsbacktothefenceandensuringtheyarelockedtogether.
Ensurethatbothteamandspectatorareasarecleanandthatnowaterbottles,orangepeelsorfood
wrappers,etc.areleftbehind.Pleaseusethegarbageandrecyclingbinslocatedateachfield.

CoachesResponsibilities

Certification
AsofJune1,2016BCSoccerrequiresallHeadCoachestobecertified.PortMoodySoccerClubisintheprocessof
havingacoachtrainercertified,andtherequiredcertificationwillbedonein-house.Detailsofin-house
certificationopportunitieswillbemadeavailableassoonaspossible.Coacheswillberequiredtocomplete
trainingwithinsix(6)monthsoftheirHeadCoachappointment.PMSCwillcovercertificationcostsforcoaches
whosuccessfullycompletetheircertification.Thecertificationrequiredfordifferentagegroupsisshownbelow.

Teamsareonlyallowedthreetransfersduringaplayingseason.Inordertotransferaplayerregistered
byateamforthecurrentplayingseasontheymustfirstgivehis/hercurrentteamseven(7)daysnoticeby
completingaTransferForm(formavailableonBCSoccersite–minimalchargealsoincurred).Anofficial
oftheteammustrespondtotheapplicationtotransferwithseven(7)daysofreceivingtheTransfer

Allplayersmustwearshinpadsandproperfootwear(soccercleatsorturfshoesonturffields).

players.Playersmustnotwearjewelrytopracticesorgames.Anyearringsorotherpiercingsmustbe
removedorcoveredwithtape.
Itisstronglyrecommendedthatplayerswithlonghairtietheirhairback.

6.6Communicationwithplayers/parents
• Scheduleameetingwithplayersandparentsbeforetheseasontosetandcommunicateindividualand
teamobjectivesandtoimplementnecessarycommitteesorprocessesforasuccessfulseason.
• Playersmustbedealtwithinafairandequitablemanner.
• Thecoachmustoutlineteamandclubpolicyandcoachexpectationsforallparents(i.e.teamrulesfor
playersandparents,snackandorangesplan,game/practiceviewingareas,arrivaltimeforpracticesand
games,howyouwillcommunicatewithparents,roleoftheparents,etc.).Thereshouldbenosurprises.

PORTMOODYSOCCERCLUBHASA“NOSTRIKE”ZEROTOLERANCEPOLICYTOWARDSABUSEOFREFEREES,
COACHESorPLAYERS.
CoachesandClubswillbefinedforinappropriateconductoffans,playersorcoaches.Makeeveryeffortto
educateeveryoneinvolvedwithyourteamthattheClubhasazerotoleranceforabusiveandunrulyconduct.
Players,CoachesandTeamofficialsareresponsibleforthepaymentofallfinesagainstthem.Ifaplayerdoesnot
paytheirfine(s),theteamisresponsibleforthepayment.TheleagueswillfinetheClubwhointurnwillholdthe
Teamresponsible.
TheappropriateVicePresidentmustbeinformedimmediatelyofanypendingdisciplinecase(s)againstanycoach
oranyteamofficial.
6.9 Equipment
Coacheswillbegivenasetofballs,someconesandasetofpinnies,andagoalieshirt.Goalieglovesmayalsobe
available.Werecommendthatplayersdonottakeballshomewiththembetweenpractices/games.Itisthe
coach’sresponsibilitytoensurethatequipmentistakencareofandaccountedforattheendofeach
practice/game.Ifballsstarttogetsoft,coachesshouldgetthemrefilled.Theclubhasahandpumpthatcanbe

7 Tournaments
Someteamsmaybeinterestedinhavingtheirteamplayinatournamentagainstotherclubs.EachyearPMSC
allocatesasetamountoffundsforteamstoparticipateintournaments.TheClubdoesnotnecessarilypromote
thesetournaments,sotheonuswillbeoncoachestofindoutwhattournamentoptionsareavailable.
Toplayinanon-PortMoodyhostedtournament,yourteammustsubmittherequiredentrancefeealongwith
yourapplication.Tournamententrancefeestypicallyrangebetween$350-$500andareusuallydue2-3months

Aone-time$250.00tournamentreimbursementwillbeavailabletoPortMoodySoccerClubteamsparticipating

payforthetournamentandthensubmittheirpaidreceipttoourtreasurerforreimbursement.
TeamsenteringtournamentsoutsideofBC,andoutsideofCanadamustbefamiliarwiththeregulationsofBC

Theathlete/coachrelationshipisaprivilegedone.Coachesplayacriticalroleinthepersonalaswellasathletic
developmentoftheirathletes.TheBoardofDirectorsofPortMoodySoccerClub(PMSC)hasdevelopedthisCode
ofConducttoclarifyanddistinguishapprovedandacceptedprofessionalandethicalbehaviourfromthatwhichis
detrimentaltothedevelopmentofthesportofsoccer.(Theterm“Coach”shallinclude,butisnotlimitedtoHead
Coach,AssistantCoach(s),Manager/TrainerandorTeamRepresentative.)
Toclarifyexpectationsofcoachingconduct,thePMSCjointlyexpectallcoachestoconformtothiscodeof
conduct.
• IwillconductmyselfinthebestinterestsofPortMoodySoccerClub,puttingtheClub’sandplayer’s
interestsaheadofanypersonalorteaminterests.IwillensureIsupporttheClubanditsactivities.
• Iwillsetclearexpectationsforplayers,parents&coachespriortothestartoftheseason.
• Iwillobtainpropertrainingandcontinuetoupgrademycoachingskills.
• IwillfollowPMSCpolicies,intheeventapolicyisunclear,IwillcontactthePMSCExecutivetoclarifythe
issue.IwilldomyupmosttolearnPMSCpolicies.
• IwillfollowPMSCplayerdevelopmentphilosophyasoutlinebytheTechnicalDirector.
• Iwillbereasonableinmydemandsontheplayer’stime,energyandenthusiasm.Iwillbeawarethatthey
haveotherinterestsandobligations,includingschool,andwillconductandorganizetrainingsessionsina
mannerthatensuresacademicsuccess.
• Iwillneverplacethevalueofwinningoverthesafetyandwelfareofplayers.
• Iwillteachmyplayersthattherulesofthegamearemutualagreements,whichnooneshouldevadeor
break.
• Iwillneverengageinharassmentorphysicalabuseofteammembers,gameofficials,oroppositionand
supportalleffortstoremovesuchabusefromsportingactivities.(Harassmenttakesmanyformsbutcan

• Iwilldevelopteamrespectfortheabilityofopponentsaswellasforthejudgmentofofficialsand
opposingcoachesandplayers.
• Iwillrememberthatathletesneedacoachtheycanrespect.Iwillbegenerouswithpraise,leadby
example,andprovideallfeedbackinaconstructive,positivemanner.
• Iwillconductareasonableinspectionoftheplayingfieldandoftheequipmentbeforeeachgameor
practice.
• Iwillnotknowinglyletaninjuredplayertakepartinagameorpracticesessionwithouttheadviceofa
physician.
• Inageappropriatecircumstances,followingpracticesand/orgames,Iwillreleaseplayersonlytoparents,
adultfamilymembersorotherresponsiblepersons.
• IwillprovideacurrentCriminalRecordCheckinatimelymanner.
• Iwillatnotimebecomeintimatelyand/orsexuallyinvolvedwithanyplayerregisteredonaPMSCteam.
Thisincludesrequestsforsexualfavoursorthreatofreprisalfortherejectionofsuchrequestsmadeto
playersortheirparents.
• Iwillnotengageinpersonalcommunicationswithaplayeronnon-soccerrelatedissuesinwritten,verbal
orelectronicmanner.
• IwillfollowtheFairPlayPhilosophywhichstatesthatALLplayersareentitledtoplayaminimumhalfof
everygame
• IfurtherunderstandthatInotonlyrepresentmyplayersandteam,butalsotheclub(PMSC),ingames
andtournaments,andwillconductmyselfaccordingly.IunderstandthattheCoach,AssistantCoaches,
TeamManagers,TeamOfficialsandparentswillbeheldaccountablebytheBoardforouractionsand
behavioursthroughouttheseason.IfurtherunderstandthatthePMSCExecutiveandtheClubwill
monitorourbehaviourandwilltakeappropriateactiontoupholdthisCodeofConduct.Memberswho
aresanctionedunderthispolicymayalsobesubjecttothedisciplinaryrulesofBCSoccer.
