Climax The race is on! Willy gets the early lead. and notices that Stone Fox is dead last in the race, but not for long. The race is nearing the end and Willy notices that Stone Fox is literally right behind him. Then, in a matter of seconds, both little Willy and Stone Fox are neck and neck as they make their way into town. As Willy is nearing the finish line, he says “GO SEARCHLIGHT GO!” and then 15 feet from the finish line, Searchlight takes her last breath and dies. Falling Action Stone Fox gets off his sled and yells into the cold air for . Little Willy to walk across the finish line with Searchlight, the now dead dog. While Willy walks across the finish line, Stone Fox gets out a gun and shoots it in the air to salute the dead dog. This was important because Stone Fox is an Indian and he has never talked to a white person before now. Little Willy and Searchlight have won the race and the farm can be saved! Exposition Little Willy and his grandfather are the two main characters of the book. They live in Jackson, Wyoming on a potato farm with Willy’s dog, Searchlight. Willy’s grandfather gets seriously sick and will not get out of bed. His grandfather owes $500 in taxes and could lose his farm. Rising Action Little Willy is determined to save the farm. He sees an ad for the National Dog Sled race held in his hometown. The winning prize is $500. Little Willy decides to enter the race with his dog, Searchlight. One of the racers he will be up against is Stone Fox who races with five Samoyeds and has never lost a race. Willy is confident that he can win the race and the money!
