Since 1997 Restless Development has been implementing a range of community level projects, in Uganda’s Central, Eastern and Northern regions. The aim of which is to address the underlying causes of poverty whilst building local capacity in three strategic areas: Civic participation, Sexual Reproductive Health and livelihoods and employment. By focusing efforts on these three areas, Restless Development is able to achieve its goal of ‘All young people in Uganda are leading development and living healthy and productive lives fully supported by those around them. Restless Development will for two years (2016 and 2017) implement the My Voice My Right (MVMR) Programme in Mayuge and Jinja Districts of Eastern Uganda and Kampala in Central Uganda (for advocacy). The overall objective of this programme is to increase the number of young people living in rural areas who have access to Sexuality Education (SE) & youth-friendly health services. Specifically, MVMR programme aims at empowering young people with knowledge and skills to effect change in their own lives and that of their peers and communities, by making informed choices, and advocating for effective service delivery using the existing government policies and strategies on sexual and reproductive health and rights among other development priorities, to achieve this, Restless Development will mobilize, coordinate and build the capacity of youth and youth-led organizations to lead joint advocacy campaigns as well as of CBOs, teachers and health workers to improve CSE and services. In the Districts, Restless Development will work through the existing District and Sub-County structures. The programme will directly target Community Based Organisations, Health centre service providers and primary school teachers whose capacity shall be built to effectively support young people’s access to sexuality education and youth friendly health services. Do you want to be a VOLUNTEER on the Restless Development Uganda, My Voice My Rights Programme in Jinja and Mayuge? Are you between 18-28 years old with S.6 or University qualifications? Restless Development Uganda is recruiting enthusiastic and self-motivated young adults with a minimum of Senior Six qualification to be volunteer Advocates for Action (A4A) on its My Voice My Rights Programme (MVMR) in Mayuge and Jinja. Selected volunteer Advocates for Action will participate in an intensive 5 days training designed to equip them with the Technical skills and knowledge to deliver the My Voice My RIGHT Programme (MVMR). You will work Part time on activity basis in your respective roles for a period of 10 months during which you will reach out to in and out-of-school youth, with youth sexual reproductive health education and information and on youth friendly health services. What will it involve? 1. Training As on ground implementer of the sexual reproductive health education programme and livelihoods, you will be trained for 5 days, the aim of the training will be: To provide volunteers with information and knowledge relevant to carrying out the programmes and work assigned to them To provide skills and methods necessary to best deliver, monitor and evaluate the programmes. To impact on your life through improvement in knowledge and personal behaviour change. Also this training will help you develop life skills and enable you to take positive control of your sexual and reproductive health. Placement You will be placed in rural sub-counties of Jinja and Mayuge districts, where you will be expected to work with marginalised youth, selected CBOs, schools and Health centres and the local authorities at sub county and district levels. Because your team will be from very different backgrounds you will be expected to learn and accept the differences and work together as a TEAM. 3. Your Role. What you will be doing. As advocates for action you will be required to perform the following tasks; Conduct Youth led research and advocacy at district level on youth sexual reproductive health Support AfriYAN Coalition members with evidence to inform their national level advocacy Regular communication with AfriYAN members (buddying system/social media platform?) Conduct district youth consultations to investigate key SRH challenges affecting youth and their suggested solutions Work with a technical consultant to assess the level of implementation of existing adolescent health policy. Use UNICEF’s U-report to support advocacy efforts. Work with AfriYAN to conduct youth-led district level advocacy. Present at SRHR Dialogues at the district level. Participate in budgeting processes related to ASRHR Participate in A4A training and; Other duties as you may be assigned What will Restless Development expect of you? 1. To work as a team and be collectively accountable for all Restless Development activities in your community. 2. To abide by Restless Development values, volunteer code of conduct, and all the policies governing Restless Development volunteers. 3. To transport yourself for interviews on the selection day in case you are shortlisted. 4. To remain on the programme for the full specified period of 6 months. You will not have any time off placement unless this has been agreed upon by Restless Development staff and your placement partners. What can you expect from Restless Development Uganda? 5. 5 days of training as mentioned above. During this period you will receive NO allowance except transport refund as everything including meals, accommodation and medical treatment will be provided. 6. Restless Development will sensitise and prepare the community to receive the volunteers and also provide technical support in the implementation of the programme. 7. Restless Development will provide on activity basis SDA, transport facilitation while conducting field activities and an allowance of 50,000= upon completion of data collection. 8. Restless Development programme team and AfriYAN will conduct support and supervision visits to all volunteer placement communities to check on progress and provide needed mentorship 9. An end of programme debriefing session will be held, where you will have the opportunity to provide your feedback which will be incorporated in the future programming. Also you will benefit from a career development session to build your capacity in seeking for employment 10. On completion of the programme a certificate confirming your participation and the training you’ve received will be awarded to you. Will you get paid? To be accepted on the programme, you must be willing to be a VOLUNTEER. This means NO PAY. But will receive adequate facilitation while conducting programme activities. Still interested?
