Referee Options
Expectations
• This module is NOT intended to be a lecture or
even a lesson on how to manage a game.
• This module IS intended to be an interactive
discussion about different game scenarios and
the options that are available to the referee
team.
• By the end of this presentation, you will be
able to utilize some of the options brought out
in the discussion
OPTIONS
• Coaches teach players options for set plays
and common game situations
• Players chose these options based on their
experience and comfort with the options
• Referees must realize that these options exist
and use the player’s options to help them
decide on their options as a referee
On-Line Presentation
• Review each video and answer questions as
they relate to the two scenarios.
• Print out each Question Sheet.
• Write in answers for each of the questions and
submit all question and answer sheets at
Module “C” clinic that you attend.
• Print your name on each sheet.
Video Clip 1
• Scenario 1 – This is a local club game between
two U14 teams with no history of issues. It is
early in the match and there is no score
• Scenario 2 – This is a tournament final and
these two teams had a battle the previous
weekend at another tournament. It is early in
the match and there is no score.

• Scenario 1 – This is a local club game between two
teams where play has been pretty poor on both sides
of the ball. The score is 1-1 and there is only about 2
minutes left in the match
• Scenario 2 – This is a tournament final game that is
now in the second overtime period that must be
played to completion. White scored in the first
overtime period. A yellow striker has just sent the
potential game tying goal barely left of the goal. There
is about 3 minutes left in second overtime period.
