EXPECTATIONS FOR 2013
EXPECTATIONS FOR 2013
Hi my name is Serena and I am House
Captain of Mother Teresa. I would like
my house to believe they can achieve
any of their aspirations and it would be
my pleasure to support them. I am here
to set an example for everyone in my
house, and I want to be approachable at
all times. As this is my last year at John
Perryn, I would not want to spend it by
myself, and I would love to share it with
all my house. I would like everyone to
use their initiative, do things without
being asked, and be helpful and happy
and, most importantly receive your
house points.
I am Jowita the House Captain of
Elizabeth Garrett Anderson. I will be
grateful if we win every week and even
if we do not, I will make sure we enjoy
trying!! I would like my house team to
work hard in everything they do and
believe that they should be able to
achieve their goals.
At the end of this year, I will be thanking
all of the teachers for everything they
have done for us, and for the house
points they have given. Let’s all leave
school on a high note. ”Aim high and
achieve success in all that we do.” Let
us make this year a great one. For
me…and for you.
I am hoping to raise their morale by
encouraging them to achieve success
in all that they do. As this is my last
year in John Perryn, I would like to go
away with all the happiness in the
world.
To get more house points we will need
to continue to be helpful and do jobs
without being asked, take pride in our
work and enjoy our learning. More
house points, Better standards, Bright
future! SO COME ON ANDERSON
HOUSE!

Hi, my name is Andy. I am the
house Captain of Nelson Mandela.
As a house captain I except my
house to earn a lot of house points,
To do that we must all work really
hard and achieve 100% in
everything we do. The more
Mandela house children go up to the
front in our celebration assemblies,
the more we will encourage each
other.
So come on Mandela House, let’s
win each week. I want everyone to
help the House and get lots of
house points. Also forget if the
other houses are winning just carry
on trying.

Children’s Centre Meeting room.
LOST PROPERTY
Please remember to label all your children’s clothing with their first and
last name and their class. Unfortunately a significant amount of lost
property has been left during the term so we are going to provide you
with more opportunities to see lost property.
Every last Thursday of the month all the lost property will be displayed
in the corridor outside the school hall after school. Please note these
dates
Thursday 31st January
Thursday 28th February
Thursday 21st March
We will review this arrangement at the end of the Spring term.

NUMERACY PASSPORT
We are delighted to announce that John Perryn is launching the ‘Numeracy Passport’ a
strategy for improving children’s mental maths skills.
What is it? Each child will be given a passport which they will take with them through
school. The passports are named after continents. The passport tracks progression in
basic number skills. The children will develop instant recall skills in all the objectives – they
should not be taking time to work out the answer to each question, they need to know it
instantly.
When to do it? The class teachers will work with your child’s group once a week when
they check their progress and set them the passport skill to practice for 10 minutes each
night. This is their maths homework for the week.
Where to start? All children will start at their attainment level and progress through the
passports at their own pace. The aim is to complete the passports when they get to Year
6. At first, it may seem that the work they are doing is too easy but we want to check how
quick all the children are at each objective.
How to help at home. We would ask that you spend 10 minutes each evening practising
your child’s passport skills with them. This could be in the car, at teatime, before bed – it
doesn’t need to be a sit down, formal time. For most of the skills, you could try the same
procedures:
Computers. Go on Mathletics or other number computer games. If you would like to know
more about the Numeracy Passports please pop into school and speak to your child’s class
teacher or Mr Diaz (maths leader).
Ricardo Diaz Numeracy Subject Leader.

LITERACY UPDATE
As you know one of our priorities this school year is to improve the children’s ability to write well
in all their subjects. We would like you to be informed about what we will be doing to improve in
this area and also how the government will be testing Children in Year 1, 2 and 6. The Calendar
informs you about all the meetings that will be taking place during this term.
Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation
This is a new Key Stage Two English test which will be given to our children in May 2013. The
Government believe that too many children have not achieved a strong foundation in grammar,
punctuation, and spelling by the end of Key Stage 2.
During the meetings you will gain more information about the changes and also advice about how
you can support your child at home.
Please make every effort to attend the relevant meetings for your child. If you have any queries or
concerns please see your child’s Class teacher.
Together we will be able to ensure that your child makes good progress in literacy and is prepared
for the tests.

Well done SYCAMORE and PLANE
Congratulations to BIRCH Class
Your children can arrive by 8:50am and line up in their class lines by 9:00am. The children are very keen to
support their class and houses by being on time for school. We strongly believe that to be punctual is an
important life skill and should be encouraged.
Please continue to give them your full support to succeed with achieving a very good record for punctuality.
