TheaimoftheDepartmentofRecreationalSportsistomakeparticipationintheintramuralsportsprogramsafe,attractive,
anddesirabletoalargenumberofstudents,faculty,staff,andspouses/domesticpartners.Thesportsactivitiesand
recreationalfacilitiesarevariedsothatthereisanopportunityforeveryindividualtoparticipateregardlessoflevelof
ability.

Whatisneededtosignup?
1. Theentryfeeinfull(Visa,MasterCard,Discover,AmericanExpress,BulldogBucks(withMembershipServicesStaff
only),cashorchecksmadepayabletoUGA).

AfterteamshavepaidtheirregistrationfeestheywillberequiredtoregistertheirteamsinIMLeaguesonline.Teamswill
haveuntilnoontheThursdayfollowingtheregistrationdeadlinetoenrolltheirteam.Teamsthatarenotenrolledbynoon
onThursdayrisklosingtheirleaguespotandtheywillnotberefundedanymoney.
Whattodowhenyoumisstheregistrationsdeadline:CometotheRamseyCenterandspeaktotheMembershipServices
Stafftoregisteryourteamoryoumayregisterthemonline.Therewillbealateregistrationfeeaddedtoanyteamthat
comesaftertheregistrationdeadline.Ifyouwanttocreateateamthedayafterregistrationendsandthesportentryfee
is$10orlessthelatefeewillbe$1.Iftheentryfeeisover$10thelatefeewillbe20%oftheregistrationfeethedayafter
registrationends.AnyteamthatwishestoregistermorethanonedayaftertheentrywillbereviewedbytheCompetitive
SportsProfessionalStaffandwillbechargedatlatefeethatis30%oftheregistrationfee.
Allcaptainswillberequiredtocompleteandpassanonlinerulesquizpriortotheirteambeingeligibletoparticipate.
Captainswillreceivethequizviaemailafterregistrationhasended.
REFUNDPOLICY
1. IntramuralSports
a. FullRefund‐Iftheteaminformsthecompetitivesportsstaffpriortoorwithin24hoursoftheregistration
deadlinethattheywillnotbefieldingateam;Orifthedepartmentcancelstheactivity.
b. Within24HoursoftheRegistrationDeadlineRefund‐Iftheteamdecidestodropoutwithin24hoursof
theregistrationendingbutbeforeschedulingbegins,arefundoftheentryfeewillbegiven.
c. NoRefund‐Afterschedulingbegins.Schedulingtypicallybeginstwomorningsaftertheregistration
deadline.
d. NoSwitching‐leaguesaftertheregistrationhasended.

FREEAGENTS
Afreeagentisapersonwhohasapassiontoparticipateinaparticularsport,butcurrentlydoesnothaveateamtojoin.
TheIntramuralSportsprogramprovidesanopportunityforaparticipanttoregisterhis/herinformationasafreeagent.If
ateamneedsadditionalparticipants,afreeagentcanbecontactedfromthelistaslongastheycomplywiththeeligibility
guidelineslistedonpage4ofthisdocument.Itisstronglyencouragedthatfreeagentsattempttoformteams
themselvesbycontactingothersthroughfreeagentsonIMLeagues.Ifafreeagentteamisformed,theprocedures
listedabovemustbefollowedfortheteamtobeentered.FreeagentsareencouragedtoattendtheFreeAgentsMeetingat
thebeginningofeachsemesterorutilizeourwebsitelistedabovetocreateateam.Wewillholdthefreeagentsmeetingsin
August,NovemberandFebruaryofeachacademicyear.Pleasecheckthewebsitefordetailspertainingtoeachmeeting.
TEAMCAPTAIN
EachteamenteredinanIntramuralSportmusthaveonedesignatedcaptainwhowillactasaliaisonbetweentheteamand
theDepartmentofRecreationalSports.AcaptainmayonlyrepresentONEmen’s/women’steamandONEco‐recteamfor
anygivensport.He/shemustbeaneligibleandactiveparticipantonthatteam.Ifthedesignatedcaptaincannotbepresent
atagivenmeetingorcontestanothercaptainorteamrepresentativemustbeappointed.
Responsibilitiesofateamcaptain:
1. CompleteandpasstheonlinepreseasoncaptainsquizthroughIMLeagues.
2. HaveteammatesregisteronIMLeaguesandaddedtotherosterbeforegamesbegin.
3. Checktheeligibilityofeachparticipantbeforeandduringtheseason.Informtheparticipantthattheymayonlyplay
ononemen’s/women’steamandoneco‐recteam.
4. Findoutthemostconvenienttimeforthemajorityofteammemberstoplay.Submitateamregistrationformalong
withpaymentonlineorwiththeMembershipServicesStaffintheRamseyStudentCenterpriortothedeadlineto
selectyourteam’sdayandtimetoplay.
5. FindoutfromplayersonyourteamiftheyaremembersofaUGAClubSportteam.Thecaptainsareresponsiblefor
makingsurethattheirteamisnotbreakingtheclubplayerrule(seepage5)–ClubSportsMembersand
IntercollegiateAthletes.
6. Befamiliarwiththerulesandregulationsgoverningeachsport,deadlines,mandatorymeetings,andthepoliciesof
theintramuralsportsprogramconcerningforfeits,defaults,sportsmanship,etc.
7. Keeptheteaminformedaboutthegamesite,time,opponent,uniformcolor,andanyotherpertinentinformation.
8. InformparticipantsthattheywillhavetopresenttheirUGAIDCARDbeforeeverygame.
9. Beresponsiblefortheconductofparticipants,coaches,andspectatorsbefore,during,andaftereachcontest.If
hesitanttofulfillthisresponsibility,assignafriendorfaculty/staffmemberwhotheteamrespectstomonitorthe
behavioroftheteamandspectators.
10. Ifaparticipantisejected,oraproblemarisesduringthegame,itisthecaptain’sresponsibilitytoinformthatplayer
ofthepenaltyasitisstatedinDisciplinaryandEjectionPolicySectiononpage14.
11. Informparticipantstheyareresponsibleforallinjuriesincurredwhileparticipatingintheprogram.Encourage
injuredparticipantstogototheUniversityHealthCenter,howeverminortheinjurymayseem.
12. Checkthecontestscheduleonadailybasis.Thisisparticularlyimportantifgameshavetobepostponeddueto
inclementweather.Keepyourteammemberswellinformed.
13. Actasateamspokespersononandofftheplayingarea.Ifthereareanyquestions,pleaseask.TheCompetitive
Sportsstaffisheretoassistyou.

EachteammustprovideanAPPROPRIATEteamnameconsistingoflessthan20characters.Pleasenote,theCompetitive
SportsAdministrativeStaffreservestherighttoalteranyteamnameorlogojudgedtobeobscene,derogatory,vulgar,
offensive,containsprofanityorisnotwithinthespiritofgoodsportsmanship.
1. Ifateamnameisdeemedinappropriate,theteam’snamewillbechangedto“Team”andthecaptain’sfirstandlast
name(I.E.TeamJohnDoe).IftheCompetitiveSportsStaffhastoalterateamname,therewillbenoopportunityto
changeit.
2. Ifateamnameisrepeatedwithinthesamesportitwillbetheteamnamefollowedbythecaptain’slastname(I.E.
TeamX–Smith).
ELIGIBILITYGUIDELINES
Itistheresponsibilityoftheintramuralsportsteamcaptaintoensurethateachmemberofhis/herteamiseligibleto
participate.AnyquestionablecasesshouldbebroughttotheattentionoftheCompetitiveSportsprofessionalstaffsothat
anofficialrulingcanbeobtained.
Thecompetitivesportsofficeexpectsparticipationtobebasedonone’sself‐identifiedgenderandthatitisdoneingood
faithandconsistentwithaplayer’sexpressedgenderidentity.
1. ToparticipateintheIntramuralSportsprogram,studentsmusteitherbeafeespaidstudentoraparttimestudent
withaRamseyMembership.Spouses/DomesticPartnersofastudentmayparticipateinintramuralsportsifa
UGADependentIDCardispurchasedattheTateStudentCenterandtheypossessaRamseyCenterMembership.
2. ToparticipateintheIntramuralSportsprogram,Faculty/Stafffull‐timeorpart‐timeorretiredUniversity
employeesmusthaveamembershiptotheRamseyStudentCenter.Spouses/DomesticPartnersofFaculty/Staff
andretiredstaffmayparticipateinIntramuralSportsifaUGADependentIDCardispurchasedattheTateStudent
CenterandtheypossessaRamseyCenterMembership.
3. InordertoparticipateintheIntramuralSportsprogram,anindividualmusthavepaidtheactivity/recreationfee
forthecurrentsemesterandmustsignthewaiverontheteamregistrationform.
4. Allparticipantsarerequiredtopresenthis/herownUGAIDcardpriortoeverycontest.ARamseyCenter
membershipisrequiredforallIntramuralSports.
a. Astudentthatloseshis/herUGAIDcardmustpurchaseanotheroneattheTateStudentCenterroom309.
Noreplacementswillbemadeafter4:30pm,Monday‐Friday.
b. IfaparticipantlosestheirUGAIDcardontheweekend,theywillnotbepermittedtoparticipateina
contestuntilanewcardispurchased(thismayaffectanyparticipantwithaSundaygame).
5. IndividualsmayparticipateononesinglesexleagueandoneCo‐Recteam..
a. Allviolatorswillbesuspendedfromfurtherparticipationinthatsportfortheremainderofthatseason,this
includespostseason.Teamsmayalsobepenalizedforusingineligibleparticipants.
6. Anyindividualwhoparticipatesonmorethanoneteamduringanysportseasonand/orparticipatesunderan
assumednameshallbesuspendedfromparticipationinthatsportforatleasttheremainderoftheseason.
ParticipationonateamduringaPreseasonTournamentorduringascrimmagegamewillnotconstitutebeingon
thatteam’sroster.AnyillegalparticipantandtheteamcaptaincouldbesuspendedfromfutureIntramuralSportsif
itisdeemedwarranted.
7. Aparticipantisnotpermittedtotransferfromoneteamtoanotherafterparticipatinginonescheduledregular
season.
8. Teamsfoundtobeplayingwithnon‐studentswhoareineligiblewillforfeitanygamewithsaidparticipant(s),and
willnotbeeligibleforthepostseasontournament.
9. AllteammembersnamesmustappearontheentryformfiledintheRecreationalSportsoffice.Rostersmust
containtheindividual’sname,UGAID#,andsignature.Aparticipantwhosenamedoesnotappearontheroster
willbeconsideredineligible.RosterswillbecheckedatrandombytheCompetitiveSportsprofessionalstaff.
10. Additionstoateam’sofficialrostermayonlybemadepriortothetimethattheindividual(s)participateinagame.
Allparticipantsmustparticipateinoneregularseasongameinordertobeeligibleforthepostseasontournament.
11. Rosters:arelimitedtoaspecificnumberforeachsport:flagfootball(20),volleyball(15),basketball(15),softball
(20),outdoor/indoorsoccer(15),kickball(20),ultimatefrisbee(15),dodgeball(15),4‐v‐4flagfootball,volleyball,
battleship,andsoccer(8),teamgolf(2),teamtennis(15)andinner‐tubewaterpolo(15)
12. Womenareeligibletoparticipateinmen’sintramuralsportsleaguesonlywhenawomen’sleagueisnotofferedfor
thatparticularsport.
4|P a g e 13. SummerSports:Inordertobeeligibletoparticipateinasummerintramuralsportsprogram,theymustmeetthe
precedingcriteria.Inaddition,allsummerparticipantsmustbeabletoprovideavalidUGAIDCardandbeableto
provideproofofregistrationforthepreviousspring,currentsummerorupcomingfallclassesifaskedbyamember
oftheRecreationalSportsprofessionalstaff.
IMPROPERUSEOFIDENTIFICATION
1. IfaCompetitiveSportsStaffmemberdeterminesthatanindividualisattemptingtocheck‐inwithfalse
identificationforanyIntramuralSportscontest,theIDwillbeconfiscated,andthatindividualwillnotbeallowed
toplay.Theindividualwillbeejectedandaskedtoshowproperidentification.Iftheindividualrefusesorfailsto
showproperidentificationorcooperatefullywiththesupervisoronsite,theteamcaptainwillalsobeejected
fromthecontest.IftheCompetitiveSportsStaffdeterminesthattheteamcaptainwasawareoftheindividual's
useofimproperidentification,thenthatteammayforfeititsgameandbesubjecttoremovalfromtheleague.An
individualcaughttryingtocheck‐inwithaUGAIDCardthatisnothis/herownhasjeopardizedthemselvesand
theowneroftheIDtodisciplinaryactionbytheUniversity.
2. BothpartiesinvolvedwillbesuspendedfromALLIntramuralparticipationforsixmonthsasdetailedinthe
updateddisciplinaryandejectionpolicyonpage14.
3. IftherightfulownerofaconfiscatedIDwishestoretrievetheIDthesameeveningitwasconfiscated,theymay
dosoatthesitewhereitwastakenbyshowinggovernmentissuedidentificationtotheintramuralsitemanager
toprovethattheIDisbeingreturnedtothecorrectperson.Otherwise,theindividualmaypickuphis/herIDat
theIntramuralSportsOfficeinsidetheRamseyStudentCenterbeginningat9amthebusinessdayfollowingsaid
confiscation.TheownermustspeaktotheSeniorCoordinatorforCompetitiveSportstoretrievetheIDaswell
asprovideproperidentificationtoverifyhis/heridentity.ID'snotretrievedbytherightfulownerwillbe
returnedtotheUGACardOfficeapproximatelyeverytwoweeks.
CLUBSPORTSMEMBERSANDINTERCOLLEGIATEATHLETES
1. Aclubsportsmembershallbeeligibleforintramuralparticipationinthesportofhis/herspecialty.Volleyball,4v4
outdoorsoccer,and4v4volleyballteamsarerestrictedtohavingonlyONEsuchparticipantonitsroster.Allother
IMSportscanhaveTWOsuchparticipantsonitsroster.Allco‐recreationalteamscanhaveonefemaleclubplayer
andonemaleclubplayer.Noco‐recreationalteamscanhavemultiplesamesexclubplayersontheirroster.
2. Aclubsportsmemberisdefinedasanyindividualwhoisontheclubsport’srosterandparticipatesinpractices
and/orplaysingames.Anystudentwhopracticeswiththeteamisalsoconsideredbyourprogramtobeonthe
clubteamandthusconsideredaclubteammember.Onceyouareonorconsideredontheclubteamthese
restrictionsapplyfortheentireschoolyearwhichrunsfromthefall,springandthroughthesummerrespectively.
Thosewhoviolatethisrulewillbesuspendedforonecalendaryearfromthedateofinfractionandmaybesubject
tofurtherpenaltyasdeemedappropriatebytheCompetitiveSportsStaff.
3. Anyrecognizedorganizationalteamthattravelsandcompeteswillbesubjecttothesamerulesasclubsports
members.
4. IntercollegiateteamswillbedefinedasthoseteamssponsoredbytheAthleticDepartment.Amemberofan
intercollegiateteam(thoselistedonthecurrentand/orpreviousyear’sroster)willnotbeallowedtoparticipatein
intramuralactivitiesinthatsportorasimilarsport(I.E.baseball&softball)duringtheacademicyear.Amemberof
anintercollegiateteamisdefinedasapersonwhosenameisontherosterorisworkingoutorparticipatingwith
theteam.Iftheathletehassatoutwithoutpracticingorplayingwiththeintercollegiateteamforatleastone
calendaryearfromtheirlastparticipationtheywillbecomeeligibletoparticipateintheIMsportoftheirspecialty.
5. Anathletethatplayedateamsport(football,soccer,etc)ataNCAADivisionISchoolduringthepreviousacademic
yearisineligibletoparticipateinaspecificorrelatedsportforintramuralsportsduringthecurrentacademicyear.
Anindividualthatparticipatedinanindividualsport(tennis,golf,etc.)atanyNCAADivision1Schoolmustsitout
twoyearsbeforebecomingeligibleforintramuralcompetition.
6. Anyteamchoosingtoplaywithaformervarsityathlete,whowillbeplayinghis/herspecificorrelatedsport,must
signupforthecompetitiveleague.Allformerathletesmuststillmeettherequiredeligibilityguidelines(See
EligibilityGuidelinesonpage4).
7. AformerOlympic,National,JuniorNationalorprofessionalteammembermaynotparticipateinthesportof
his/herspecialtyorasimilarintramuralsportuntilfour(4)yearshaveelapsedsincetheirOlympic,National,Junior
NationalorProfessionalexperience.
5|P a g e 8. Aformerorcurrentintercollegiateathleteorclubsportmembermayappealhis/herstatusrelatingtorestrictions
inaparticularsport.SuchanappealmustbesubmittedinwritingtotheSeniorCoordinatorforCompetitiveSports.
Anyathleteorclubmemberfoundbreakingtheaboveruleswillbesuspendedfromintramuralsportsinthatsport
foronecalendaryear.
LEAGUESPORTSANDDIVISIONPLAY
Atthebeginningofeachsemester,theIntramuralSportsprogramwilladvertisethesportleaguesandspecialtournaments
thatwillbeofferedforthesemester.Atthattime,ateamcaptainwillberesponsibleforregisteringhis/herteamforthe
dayandtimetheyareabletoparticipate.
1. LeaguesportsnormallytakeplaceMondaythroughThursdayfrom5:00pm–11:00pmandSundayleaguesrun
fromapproximately1:00pm–11:00pm;alldaysandtimesaresubjecttochange.
2. Leaguesaredesignedtoprovideanopportunityforourparticipantstocompeteagainstplayerswithsimilarskill
andinterestlevels.
a. Anyleaguenotedas“Competitive”isdesignedforparticipantswhoarelookingforacompetitivematchup
againstotherteamsaswellastowingames.Teamswhoenteracompetitiveleaguemayhaveparticipants
whoplayedinvarsityhighschoolsports,holdpractices,ormaybelookingtoparticipateinextramural
tournaments.Theseteamsareplayingtowin.
b. Anyleaguenotedas“Recreational”isdesignedforparticipantswhoarelookingtoparticipatein
games/matchesforfun.Ateamwhoentersrecreationalleaguesdonotassociatewinningwiththeprimary
objectiveofitsparticipationintheIntramuralSportsprogram.Theseteamsareplayingforfun.
3. Whenregisteringateam,captainswillselectwhichleaguetojoin.Dependingonthesport,theleagueformatwill
adheretooneofthefollowing:

TobeeligiblefortheFraternityandSororityleagues,ALLparticipantsmustbeactivemembersand/or
pledgesproperlyrecordedintheIFC/Pan‐Hellenic/NPHCOffice.Aslongasanindividualhasmetallother
participantguidelineshe/shemayrepresentafraternityorsororityinthisleague.Fraternitiesand
Sororitiesareonlypermittedtosignuponeteaminthefraternityandsororityleagues,additionalteams
mayplayintheRecreational,CompetitiveorWomen’sLeagues.
Afteracaptainhasselectedoneoftheabovelistedleagues,he/shewillthenbeaskedtoselectadivision.These
divisionsdenotewhichdayandtimetheteamwouldliketoparticipate.Onceinadivision,ateamwillbescheduled
againstotherteamsfortheregularseason.
Teamswillbescheduledforatleastfourgamesduringtheregularseason,foroutdoorleagues,onlythreeregular
seasongamesarescheduled(mostleaguesunlessotherwisenoted).TheCompetitiveSportsstaffcannotguarantee
thatallregularseasongameswillbeplayedduetothepossibilityoffoulweatherconditions,facilityspace,andtime
constraintswithinthesemester.Thedepartmentisnotresponsiblefordefaultsorforfeits.
a. Gamesthatarepostponedduetorainorfieldconditionsarenotguaranteedtoberescheduled.The
CompetitiveSportsstaffwilldotheirbesttoreschedulegamescancelledduetoinclementweather,but
aguaranteemaynotbemadeduetofacilityspace,timerestrictions,and/orfieldconditions.
b. Anyrescheduledgameswillbepostedonthewebsiteandteamswillberesponsibleforverifyingtheir
schedules.
Forallleaguesports,scheduleswillbemadeandpostedtotheintramuralsportwebsiteafter1:00pmonthe
Fridayaftertheentrydeadlinehaspast.Ifanychangesaremadetotheschedulesafterthistime(beforeorduring
theseason),theteamcaptainwillbenotifiedimmediatelyviae‐mailorbyphone.
Ateamthatdoesnotforfeitduringtheregularseasonandmeetsthesportsmanshiprequirements(maintainingan
averageofa3.6orbetterduringtheregularseason)willbeeligibleforthepostseasontournament.(see

1. Formostteamsports,therewillbeaMANDATORYPostseasonCaptain’sMeetingattheendofregularseasonplay.
Atthismeetingteamswillselectaspotinthetournamentbracketwhichcorrelatestospecificdates,times,and
locationsfortournamentgames.
2. ParticipantEligibility‐Tobeeligibleforthepostseasontournament,participantsmustbeontheteam’sroster
beforetheconclusionoftheregularseason.Participantswhoareontheteam’srostermustmeetalleligibility
guidelines.
3. Reschedulingduetoweather‐Intheeventofinclementweatherandgamecancellations,alltournamentgames
maybemovedtothenextavailableday.Captainsareresponsibleforcheckingtheintramuralsportswebsitefor
updates.Ifgameshavebeencancelledteamsareencouragedtochecktheupdatedschedulebecausethe
tournamentschedulemaybeaffected.Whenpossible,thegametimesandlocationswillremainthesamebutthere
isnoguarantee.
4. Teamsportsmanshipduringthepostseasontournaments:Ifaplayerisejectedfromagameduringthepostseason
tournamentthegamewillbeendedatthetimeoftheejection.Theteamwiththeejectedplayerwillforfeitthe
gameandtheotherteamwilladvancebya1‐0score,regardlessofthescoreatthetimeofejection.
5. Anyteamthatreceivesasportsmanshipratingbelow3.0willberemovedfromthetournamentanditsopponent
willadvanceinthebracketregardlessofthescoreofthegame.Ifbothteamsreceivearatingbelow3.0bothteams
willforfeitandnoteamwilladvanceinthatsectionofthetournamentbracket.
POSTSEASONTOURNAMENTFORMAT
1. Thepostseasontournamentforallleaguesportswillconsistofonesingleeliminationtournamentperleague.Ifthe
numberofteamspermits,sportsofferingCompetitiveandRecreationalleagueswilladheretothefollowing
tournamentformat:
a. DivisionBreakdowns
i.
If96+teamsqualifyforthetournament,itwillbedividedintothreetournamentbrackets(A,B
&C).
ii.
If4‐95teamsqualifyforthetournament,itwillsplitintotwotournamentbracketswith4‐0
RecreationalLeagueteamsmovingtotheATournamentandthe0‐4Competitiveteamsbeing
droppedtotheBTournament.
b. ThreeLeagueFormat
i. Duringtheregularseason,teamswhoachievearecordof.500andabove(4‐0,3‐1,and2‐2)inthe
competitiveleaguewillparticipateinan“A”leaguetournament.
ii. Competitiveteamswhofinishwitharecordbelow.500(1‐3and0‐4)willparticipateinthe“B”
leaguetournament.
iii. Teamswhoparticipateintherecreationalleague,andearnarecordofabove.500(4‐0and3‐1)
willparticipateinthe“B”leaguetournament.
iv. Recreationalteamswhofinishwitharecordof.500andbelow(2‐2,1‐3,0‐4),willparticipatein
the“C”leaguetournament.
c. FraternityLeagueteamswillbeconsideredamen’scompetitiveleague.
d. Ifateamhasreceivedawinbydefaultorforfeitandfeelsitshouldbeconsideredforadifferentleague
tournamentthantheoneitsrecordindicates,thecaptainisresponsiblefornotifyingthecompetitive
sportsstaffatleastoneweekpriortothepostseasoncaptain’smeeting.Thecompetitivesportsstaff
willevaluateeachrequestindividually.Afterarequestissubmittedthereisnoguaranteethattheteam
willbemoved.
2. Allfallandspringsemesterleagueswillfollowasingleeliminationtournamentformatwherethecaptainwill
selectacontesttimeandlocationforhis/herteamatthepostseasoncaptain’smeeting.
AWARDS
ChampionshipT‐shirtswillbeawardedinthefollowingdivisions:Women’s,Men’s,andCo‐RecreationalAllCampus;A‐
League,B‐League,andC‐League(whenapplicable).

Duringallintramuralsportsactivities,theonsitestaffhastheabilitytodeclareacontestaforfeit.TheCompetitiveSports
staffwillhavetheofficialtimeforallcontestsandactivities.Aforfeitisdeclaredwhenateamfailstoshowforsaid
contestoractivity.Forfeitedgamesareun‐playedgamesthatarerecordedasalosstowardtheteams’overallrecord.
1. Teamswillbegrantedafiveminutegraceperiodfromtheoriginalstarttime.Afterthisperiod,allparticipantsare
requiredtobecheckedinwiththeintramuralscorekeeper/supervisorandreadyforplay.Ifnoonefromagiven
teamispresentatthesiteafterthisgraceperiod,thecontestwillbedeclaredaforfeit(I.E.Ifagameisscheduledfor
5:30pm,andtheclockreads5:35pmthegameisaforfeit).
a. Ifthegamebeforeyourscheduledgamerunspastthefiveminutegraceperiod,theconclusionofthatgame
willbecomethenextgamesforfeittime.
2. Ifaforfeithasbeendeclared,theteamsinvolvedmaystillusethegamesitetopracticeorscrimmage,untilfifteen
minutespriortothestartofthenextcontest.Duringthistime,thecompetitivesportsstaffisnotpermittedto
officiateorkeepscore,andparticipantswillbeplayingattheirownrisk.
a. Ifafullteamispresent,itmustsignintheminimumnumberoflegalparticipants.Theseparticipantsmust
bereadyforplayinorderforthecontesttobeconsideredawinbyforfeit.Ifateamleavesbeforeaforfeitis
declaredbythecompetitivesportsstaff,thegamewillbedeclaredadoubleforfeit.Makesureallnew
playersatthegamesignintoensurethattheyareontheroster,makingthemeligibleforthepostseason.
Thisneedstobedonepriortoleavingthefields.
3. Ifateamisdeemedtohaveforfeitedacontest,theteammustpay$20to“buy‐back”intotheleague.Paymentmust
bemadewiththeMembershipServicesStaffattheRamseyStudentCenteratleast24hoursbeforetheteam’snext
contest.Teamsthatforfeitduringtheregularseasonandbuybackinwillbeeligibletocompeteinthepostseason
tournament.
a. Theonlyexceptiontothe“buy‐back”feeisifateamforfeitsagamethatisnotscheduledonitsregularday
ofplay.Ateamthatfallsintothisexceptionwillreceivealossforthemissedgame,butno“buy‐back”fee
willbeincurred.Theteamwillremaineligibleforthepostseasontournament.
4. Ateamwillautomaticallyberemovedfromtheleagueifitreceivestwoforfeitsduringaparticularseason.
NOTE:Refundrequestswillnotbegrantedforcontestsnotplayedduetoadefaultorforfeit.
DEFAULTS
Duringallintramuralsportsactivities,theonsitestaffhastheabilitytodeclareacontestadefault.Competitivesportsstaff
willhavetheofficialtimeforallcontestsandactivities.Adefaultisdeclaredwhenateamfailstohavetheminimum
numberoflegalparticipantsreadyforplayforsaidcontestoractivity.Defaultedgamesarerecordedasalosstoward
theteam’soverallrecord.
1. Ateammaydefaultagamepriortothescheduledgametimebycontactingthecompetitivesportsprofessionalstaff
by3:00pmthedayofthescheduledgame.Ateamcontactingthecompetitivesportsprofessionalstaffafter3:00pm
willberequiredtodefaultitsgameatthegamesite.
a. TeamswishingtodefaultagamescheduledonSundayarerequiredtocontactthecompetitivesports
professionalstaffby3:00pmonFridaypriortothegame.
b. TODEFAULTAGAME,PLEASECALL706‐542‐5060.
2. Teamswillbegrantedafiveminutegraceperiodfromtheoriginalstarttime.Afterthisperiod,allparticipantsare
requiredtobecheckedinwiththeintramuralscorekeeper/supervisorandreadyforplay.Ifateamispresent,yet
failstomeettheminimumnumberoflegalparticipantsrequiredforplayafterthisperiod,thecontestwillbe

INCLEMENTWEATHER/LIGHTNINGPOLICY
Whenparticipatinginoutdoorsports,theweatherplaysalargeroleintheabilitytoplay.Ifthereareanyquestionsabout
theplayingconditionsforthenight,pleasechecktheIntramuralSportswebsite(www.recsports.uga.edu)ortheweather
hotline(706‐542‐8648).Thewebsiteandtheweatherhotlinewillbeupdatedwiththemostcurrentinformationby3:00
pmofthatdayifpossible.TheCompetitiveSportsonsitestaffhastheabilitytopostponeorcanceloutdoorsportsatany
timeifdeemednecessary.Intramuralconteststhatarecancelledduetoinclementweathermayormaynotberescheduled
basedonfieldavailabilityandtimeconstraints.Forfurtherinformationonthereschedulingofgames,pleaserefertoleague
sportsanddivisionplay(LeagueSportsandDivisionPlaypage6).
1. Lightning:AttheRecreationalSportsComplex,ourfacilityisequippedwithalightningdetector.Ifinclement
weatheroccursandlightningisdetectedwithinthreetoeightmilesofthefacility,participantswillbeaskedto
leavetheplayingareasandfindcover.Atthistimegameswillbesuspendedforatleastthirtyminutes.Gameswill
resumefromthepointatwhichtheywerepausedifnolightninghasoccurredduringthisthirtyminutetimeperiod.
Ifthestormpersiststheintramuralstaffwillmakeadecisiononwhethertocancelorcontinuewaiting.Theon‐site
staffwillnotknowifgameswillberescheduled.ThatdecisionwillbemadebytheCompetitiveSportsProfessional
staffandteamswillbenotifiedofthedecision.
2. SiteConditionsandRain:Theamountofrainaccumulatedthroughoutthedaymayhaveanimpactontheability
toplayoutdoorsports.TheCompetitiveSportsprofessionalstaffcheckstheRecreationalSportsComplexplaying
areastoensurethesafetyofourparticipantsandfields.RecreationalSportsstaffreservestherighttocancelgames
duetostandingwaterontheplayingareasorotherunsafeconditions.Ifgamesarecancelledduetoinclement
weatherorpoorfieldconditions,thefieldswillbeclosedandteamswillnotbeallowedtousethefields.
PARTICIPANTCONDUCT
1. AnupdatedoutlinewithregardtoIntramuralSportsparticipantconduct,grievances,andsuspensionscanbefound
intheDisciplinaryandEjectionPolicysectionofthisparticipantguideonpage14.
2. Clearly,sportsareimportanttotheparticipantsbutthatimportanceshouldnotbecomesooverridingthat
participantslosesightofcivilizedbehavior.Theplayingfieldisnotavenueforphysicalorverbalabuseandwillnot
betolerated.
3. Eachteamisresponsiblefortheactionsofeachofitsmembersandfansbefore,during,andafteranygameor
activity.Failureofateamtocooperatewithofficialsortocontrolandrestrainanyindividualmembersiscausefor
expulsion.
9|P a g e 4. Intheeventanindividualand/orspectatorconductshimself/herselfinanunsportsmanlikemannerduring
intramuralcompetition,theofficialsofthegamehavethecompleteauthoritytotakeactionastheydeemnecessary
inordertokeepthegameundercontrol.Dependingontheseverityoftheincident,whichwouldbeleftuptothe
officials’judgment,theofficialmaytakethefollowingaction:givewarnings,ejectionfromthegameandthearea,
and/orsuspendthegame.Alldisciplinaryproblems,withtheexceptionofwarnings,willbereportedtothe
CompetitiveSportsstaffforfurtheraction.AnyRecreationalSportsprofessionalstaffmemberorstudentstaff
memberhastherighttoaskaparticipantorspectatortoleaveafacilityifhis/herbehaviorisunruly.
5. Unsportsmanlikeconductisunacceptable.ReportsofsuchbehaviorwillbeinvestigatedbytheCompetitiveSports
staff.Indoingso,theindividual(s)and/orteam(s)involvedmaybequestionedandrequiredtosubmitawrittenor
verbalstatementoftheincident.StatementswillalsobeobtainedfromtheCompetitiveSportsstaffonduty.Atthe
conclusionoftheinvestigation,theCompetitiveSportsStaffwillruleontheindividual(s)and/orteam(s)involved.
Penaltiescouldincludesuspensionfromgame(s)orseason,temporaryorpermanentprobation,and/orsuspension
fromintramuralsportsforagiventimeperiod.
6. Fightingconstitutesaflagrantactandcanoccurwhentheballisdeadorlive.Fightingincludes,butisnotlimitedto
combativeactssuchas:
a. Anattempttostrike,punchorkickbyusingafist,hands,arms,legsorfeetregardlessofwhethercontactis
made.
b. Anattempttoinstigateafightbycommittinganunsportingactthatcausesapersontoretaliatebyfighting
(SeeNFHSRulebooks).
c. Anyteamthatforfeitsagameduetounsportsmanlikeconductfacesaminimumonesemestersuspension
fromtheIntramuralSportsprogram.Thecaptainofthisteamhastwodaystomakeanappointmentwith
theCompetitiveSportsDepartmenttodiscusstheincident.Ifarepresentativeofthisteamhasnot
completedthisappointment,theteamisautomaticallysuspendedfromparticipationduringthenext
semester.
7. Ejectedparticipantsanddisruptivefansmustremovethemselvesfromthearea(outofsightandsound)
immediately.Failuretocomplywithinoneminutewillresultinateam’sdefault.Ifateamisbehindandfailsto
comply,itsnextgamewillalsobedefaultedwhichresultsinbeingineligiblefortheplayoffs.
8. Anejectedparticipant’sfailuretoattendascheduledmeetingwillresultinamoreseveresuspension.
9. Anindividualstriking,attemptingtostrikeorthreateninganotherparticipantorofficialwillbesuspended
indefinitely.OfficialsareemployeesofTheUniversityofGeorgia.Abusinganofficial,verballyorphysically,will
resultinseriousconsequences.
10. Aparticipantwhocommitstwo(2)unsportsmanlikepenalties/foulsinagamewillbeejectedfromthegameand
willbesubjecttosanctionsfoundonpage14intheDisciplinaryandEjectionPolicysectionofthisguide.However,
ifanunsportsmanlikepenaltyisdeemedflagrant,theparticipantcanbeejectedforoneunsportsmanlike
foul/penalty.Three(3)unsportsmanlikepenalties,technicalfoulsoryellowcardsinaseasonwillresultinthat
participantbeingsuspendedforaminimumonegame.
a. Aparticipantthatreceivesmorethanthree(3)anunsportsmanlikepenalties,technicalfoulsoryellowcards
inaseasonwillresultinthatparticipantbeingsuspendedfortheremainderoftheseason.
11. Unsportsmanlikebehaviorafteragamemayresultinsuspensionand/oradefaultforthenextgame.
12. Aparticipantwhoisejectedfromthegameandreturnstoabusetheofficialsorotherstaffmemberswillbe
suspendedforatleasttheremainderoftheseason.
13. Reinstatementintheprogramwillbemadewhenthestudentororganizationshowsawillingnesstosupportthe
basicprinciplesoftheprogram.
14. AnyincidentjudgedtobeofseriousconcernwillbereferredtoUniversityPoliceand/ortheOfficeofStudent
Conduct.

(5pts)Excellent–Giventoateamwhichdemonstratesgreatsportsmanshipandmaintainsanattitudeofcomplete
cooperation.
(4pts)AboveAverage–Giventoateamwhenthereisnoincidentofpoorsportsmanship.
(3pts)Average–Giventoateamwhenunsportsmanlikeconductisnotpresentinthegameexceptforrareminor
infractions.AnyteamthatdefaultswillreceiveathreeforSportsmanshipRating.
(2pts)BelowAverage–Giventoateam:
a.Ifparticipant(s),otherthanthecaptain,persistinquestioningtheofficials’decision;and/orarerepeatedly
arguingwiththeofficials.
b.Forfrequentuseofprofaneand/orvulgarlanguage.
c.Ifspectators,clearlyrelatedtotheteam,failtocooperatewiththeCompetitiveSportsstaffandtheteamis
notsupportiveofthestaff’sefforts.
(1pt)Poor–Giventoateam:
a.Whenaparticipantisejectedandtheteamdoesnotassisttheofficialsinremovingtheparticipantfromthe
facility.
b.Ifparticipantsdisregardwarningsofunnecessaryroughness,unsportsmanlikeconduct,abusivelanguage
oraction,etc.
c.IfateamrefusestoattempttocontrolitsfansafterarequesttodosofromtheCompetitiveSportsstaff.
d.AnyteamthatforfeitswillreceiveaoneforitsSportsmanshipRating.
Ateammusthavea3.6averageinordertobeeligibletocompeteinthepostseasontournament.Ateammusthaveatleast
a3.0ratingforeachgameinthetournamentinordertoadvancetothenextround.Ejections,verbalabusetowardthe
CompetitiveSportsstaff,altercationswithanopposingteammemberorteam,and/oranyotherunsportsmanlikeactsare
groundsforanautomaticratinglowerthana3.0.Ifthisoccursduringthepostseasonthegamewillbeimmediatelystopped
andtheoffendingteamwillforfeit.Theratingwillbedeterminedbytheofficialsandsupervisorsatthecontestgamesite.
Professionaldiscretionwillbeusedwhennecessary.
MERCYRULE
IntramuralSportsaimstocreateanenvironmentthatisenjoyableandsafeforallofitsparticipants.Mostsportsthatare
offeredhavea“mercyrule”thatdefineswhentheCompetitiveSportsstaffwillendthegamewithoutpenalty.Themercy
rulesforeachsportarelocatedintheSport‐SpecificRules.
PROTESTS
1. Acaptainmayprotesttheeligibilityofaparticipantatanytime.Toprotestaparticipant’seligibility,theprotest
mustincludethespecificsastowhatisbeingprotestedandsubmittedinwritingtotheCompetitiveSports
professionalstaffinroom201oftheRamseyStudentCenterby1:00pmthefollowingday.Noprotestswillbe
acceptedbyemail.
a. Duringtheregularseason,ifaparticipantisfoundtobeineligible,allgamesinwhichtheyparticipated
willbedefaulted.
b. Duringtheplayofftournament,protestsregardingeligibilitymustbefiledbefore1:00pmthefollowing
day.Ifateamisfoundtobeinviolationoftheeligibilityguidelinesitwillberemovedfromthetournament.
Theteamfacedpriortotheprotestwilladvanceinthetournament;allpriorroundswillremainthesame.
i. Ifaprotestisfiledafterthechampionshipgame,andisupheld,therewillbenochampiondeclared
forthatleague.Thegamewillnotbereplayedorrescheduled.

withtheofficialorsupervisoronsiteusingtheword“protest”BEFOREtheplayresumes.Onceplayhascontinueda
protestwillnotbehonored.Protestsmaynotbefiledwithregardtojudgmentcalls.
APPEALS(AppealForm)
AnypartymaymakeanAppealfromadecisionoftheCompetitiveSportsGraduateAssistantswithin48‐hoursofreceiptof
theAssistants’decision.TheNoticeofAppealmustsetforththebasisfortheappeal.TheNoticeofAppealmustbesentto
theAppealCommitteeviaemail([email protected]).TheCompetitiveSportsGraduateAssistantswillthendelivertothe
AppealCommitteethecompleterecordoftheappealalongwiththeappealandresponsessubmittedbyotherparties.A
copyoftheNoticeofAppealwillbesenttoanyAdversePartieswhoseactionsorrightsareinvolvedintheNoticeofAppeal.
AnyAdversePartiesshallhavetherighttosubmitresponsestotheappealwithinthree(3)daysofreceiptoftheNoticeof
Appeal.
TheCompetitiveSportsGraduateAssistantswillnottakepartinthedecisionoftheAppealCommittee.TheAppeal
Committeeshall,withoutconsideringnewevidence,renderadecisionwithrespecttotheappeal.
AnydecisionoftheAppealCommitteewithrespecttoanappealshallbefinalandbindingonallparties.
TheAppealCommitteewillbemadeupoftheCompetitiveSportsProfessionalStaff,aswellasanyoneelsefromthe
departmentdeemedfittositonthecommitteebytheDepartmentofRecreationalSports.
SPECTATORPASSES
PeoplewhoarenotmembersoftheRamseyStudentCenterandwishtowatchanintramuralcontestinthefacilitymust
obtainaspectatorpassthroughamemberofthefacility.Toobtainapassthemembermustcomewithhis/herUGAIDCard
totheRecSportsOfficein201RamseyStudentCenterduringofficehours(8:00am‐5:00pm).Apersonwhodoesnot
obtainaspectatorpassduringofficehoursmustpaytherequiredguestfeetoenterthefacility.
UNIFORMANDJEWELRY
1. Wearingjewelryisprohibitedduringallintramuralactivities.Participantsreservetherighttochoosenottoplayif
theydonotwanttoremovealljewelry.Participantswearingmedicaltagsmusttapethemdowniftheywishtoplay.
2. FiveFingerShoePolicyforIntramuralSports:Afterresearchingthefivefingershoesandtalkingwithhealthcare
personnelfromtheUHCtheonlyprogramsthatthefivefingershoeswillbeallowedtobeworninarebadminton,
cornholeandtabletennis.Theywillnotbeallowedinanyotherintramuralsportprogramoractivity.
3. TeamslistedastheHometeamontheschedulewillberequiredtowearlightcoloredjerseysandteamslistedas
theVisitorteamontheschedulewillberequiredtoweardarkjerseys.Nograyshirtsarepermittedtobewornby
anyplayers.
FACILITY
1. Noalcoholortobaccoproductsareallowedatanyintramuralsportssite.Anyteamoritsspectatorsfoundin
violationofthispolicyaresubjecttoremovalfromthefacilityaswellassuspensionfromtheIntramuralSports
program.
2. Noanimalsorbikesareallowedontheplayingfields.Teamsfoundinviolationwillbesubjecttosuspensionfrom
theIntramuralProgram.
a. UGARegisteredServiceAnimalsarepermittedatthefacilities.AServiceAnimaltagandGuideDogIDcard
mustbepresenteduponbringingtheserviceanimalintothefacilities.
3. AttheRecSportsComplex:Allvehiclesmustbeparkedinamarkedlanespaceinthesurfacelotortheparking
deck.Theparkingdeckgatewillopenat4:00pmdaily.Parkatyourownrisk.Parkingserviceswillticketand/or
towvehiclesparkedillegally.

friendshipswithinthecampuscommunity.SomesportsprovideanopportunityforstudentsatUGAtoconnectwithothers
atdifferentuniversitieswhilecompetingatahigherlevelandrepresentingUGA.Theseextramuraltournamentstakeplace
atthestate,regionalandnationallevelsforflagfootball,basketballandsoftball.
Teamsthatareinterestedinparticipatinginthesetournamentsshouldbeonthelookoutforqualifyingtournamentsheld
oncampusanddatesforstatetournaments.Ifyouoryourteamisinterestedincompetingatthenextlevelpleasecontact
theCompetitiveSportsStaffatanytimeforinformationandupdates.
ItisimportanttorememberthatparticipationandbehaviorattheseeventsisrepresentativeofUGAandthesportsmanship
displayeddirectlyreflectstheprogram.AnyinstanceofpoorsportsmanshipbyanindividualorteamrepresentingUGAwill
resultinparticipationsanctionsforthatindividualorteamwithintheIntramuralSportsProgramatUGAinadditiontoany
sanctionsimposedattheextramuralevent.Furthermore,participantsaresubjecttouniversitydisciplinarysanctionsbythe
OfficeofStudentConduct.Anyindividualwhohasbeenejectedfromplayduringthecurrentintramuralseasonoris
currentlyonprobationmaybesubjecttorestrictionfromparticipationatextramuralevents.
PROFESSIONALDISCRETION
TheAssociateDirectorforPrograms,SeniorCoordinatorsforIntramuralSports,andGraduateAssistantsforIntramural
Sportswilluseprofessionaldiscretionwhennecessarytomakeappropriatedecisionsregardingthesepoliciesand
guidelines.

IntramuralSportsOfficial:
1. Astudentisencouragedtoapplytobeanintramuralsportsofficialifhe/shepossessesapassionforsportsandis
willingtoworkanddevelopaskillthatcanbeveryrewarding.Onlystudentsarehiredandtrainedtoofficiateinthe
UGAIntramuralSportsprogram.Officialsareutilizedforflagfootball,volleyball,basketball,softball,soccer,
kickball,anddodgeball.Noexperienceisnecessarytobecomeanintramuralsportsofficial,however,abasic
understandingfortheactivitiesisbeneficial.Trainingsessionswillbeheldtoteachthenecessaryskillsthrough
classroomsessionsandon‐the‐fieldexperiencesthatwillenableofficialstoimproveastheseasonprogresses.
2. Trainingclinicswillbeheldforalltheteamsportsintheweeksleadinguptotheseason.Attendanceismandatory
forallsessionsforeachsportanofficialwantstobeeligibletoofficiate.Throughouttheseasonseveralclinicswill
beheldtohelpimprovemechanicsandtoanswerquestionsthatwillinevitablyarise.

Someoftherecreationalsportsactivitiesarequitestrenuouswhileothersareonlymoderatelyso.Thehealthofindividuals
participatinginrecreationalsportsistheirownresponsibility.Physicalsandphysicianapprovalarenotrequiredbythe
Universityinordertoparticipate.However,theRecreationalSportsstaffstronglysuggeststhateachparticipantbeawareof
his/herownlimitationsandalsobeproperlyinsured.Itisrecommendedthatallparticipantshaveamedicalexamination
priortoparticipation.Intramuralcaptainscanassistteammatesbyremindingthemoftheindividualparticipants’
responsibilitiesinthismatter.Duetoinherentrisksinvolvedinplayingintramuralsports,allparticipantswillberequired
tosigna(n)individual/teamwaiverofliabilitybeforeplaying.Itissuggestedthatallparticipantsmakeprudentdecisions
forpersonalparticipation.
DISCIPLINARYANDEJECTIONPOLICY
1. DisciplinaryRules
ThefollowingsuspensionsapplyformisconductduringIntramuralactivities:
a.
Ejection
i. AnyparticipantejectedbyanyIntramuralSportsemployeewillserveatwo(2)gamesuspension
fortheteamfromwhichtheathleteisejected.
ii. IftheejectionistheresultofviolenceormisconductaimedatanyIntramuralSportsemployee,the
participantwillbesuspendedindefinitelyfromallIntramuralactivitiessponsoredbythe
DepartmentofRecreationalSportsuntiltheparticipantmeetswiththeGraduateAssistantsfor
CompetitiveSports.
b. StudentIdentificationCardInfraction
i. AnyparticipantwhoattemptstopartakeinanyactivitybyfraudulentlyusingaUGA81#IDCard
willbesuspendedforsix(6)monthsfromallactivitiessponsoredbytheIntramuralSports
Department.TherightfulowneroftheUGAIDCardwillalsobesuspendedforsix(6)monthsfrom
allactivitiessponsoredbytheCompetitiveSportsDepartment.TheconfiscatedUGAIDCardcanbe
claimedfromtheCompetitiveSportsStaffinroom201Ramsey.
2. Meetings
a. Purpose:ThesuspensionslistedabovearefinalunlesstheplayermeetswiththeGraduateAssistantsfor
CompetitiveSports.Meetingswillprovideplayersreceivingdisciplinarysuspensiontheopportunityto
presentgroundsforareductioninthesuspension.TheGraduateAssistantshavefullauthoritytoreduceor
removesuspensions.
b. Procedure:MeetingscanbesetupviaemailwiththeGraduateAssistantsforCompetitiveSports
([email protected])
i. MeetingswillgivetheplayerdirectcontactwithatleastthreemembersoftheDepartmentof
RecreationalSports.ThesethreemembersofthedepartmentwillbeallthreeGraduateAssistants.
Ifagraduateassistantisunavailable,aProgramAssistantwilltaketheirrespectiveplace.Ifa
GraduateAssistantisdirectlyorindirectlyinvolvedinanoccurrencethatisthesubjectofthe
meeting,themeetingwilltakeplacebetweentheplayerandanothermemberoftheCompetitive
Sportsstaff,excludingtheGraduateAssistantinvolvedintheincident.
