REGULATIONS FOR THE KENT INTER

REGULATIONS FOR THE KENT INTER-REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
1.
These events shall be held annually to determine the champion Regional Associations or Leagues and shall be
open to all affiliated Regional Associations and Leagues in Kent.
2.
The events shall be administered as determined by KBL. A Referee shall be appointed to whom any disputes or
rule queries on the day shall be referred.
3.
Depending on the number of teams taking part, each event may be divided into groups or divisions with
promotion for the winning team and relegation for the lowest team. Each team within a group shall play the other
teams within that group and the team with the best aggregate result shall be deemed the winner of the group.
Results shall be based upon ties won then if necessary upon total matches, games or points (ratio of for/against).
4.
Full team lists with a maximum of 12 players shall be submitted before the event starts and, although the
players may differ in each tie, only players on those lists shall be permitted to play. Players/pairs shall be ranked in
order of merit in each tie and team lists shall be submitted before each tie. Substitutions during a tie shall only be
permitted in case of injury or other unforeseen cause and with the permission of the Referee. Any player once
withdrawn and substituted shall not be able to take any further part in the event.
5.
The expenses for hiring a suitable hall and providing shuttles shall be borne by KBL but the events should, as far
as possible, be self-financing so each competing team shall pay an entrance fee.
6.
Clothing on court must be acceptable badminton gear. Coaching is restricted to the pauses when changing ends.
SENIOR INTER-REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
1.
Each tie shall consist of nine matches as follows:One Men's Singles
One Ladies' Singles
Two Men's Doubles
Two Ladies' Doubles
Three Mixed Doubles
For each tie a team shall consist of four men and four ladies each playing two matches in that tie.
2.
Any bone fide playing member of a club affiliated to Kent shall be eligible to play in the Championship for the
Region (i.e. Regional Association or League) to which their club is affiliated. Teams should be truly representative of
their Region - the players should be generally recognisable as being of that Region (See regional Guidelines). In the
event of a player thus qualifying to play for more than one Region such player shall declare before the start of the
championship the Region for which they wish to be available and in no case shall they play for more than one Region
in any one season.
JUNIOR INTER-REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
1. The event shall be divided into Under-15 and Under-19 age groups. Players must be under the specified age
throughout the calendar year in which the season starts (official wording!).
2. Each tie shall consist of seven matches:- two boy’s singles, one girl’s singles, one boy’s doubles, one girl’s
doubles and two mixed doubles.
3.
No player shall be allowed to participate in both Under-15 and Under-19 teams.
4. No player shall play in more than two matches in any one tie (so the minimum team will consist of 3 boys and 3
girls).
5. Any bona fide playing member of a Club/School affiliated to Kent shall be eligible (if registered before the 31 st
December of the preceding year) to play for the Regional Association or League to which their Club/School is
affiliated or by which it is administered, or for the Regional Association or League in which their Club/School is
situated, or for the Region in which they reside. Priority shall be given in the following order; (a) Region of Residence;
(b) Region of School; (c) Region of Club. Should a player be eligible for more than one Region, then the other Regions
must lodge first and second claims.
Whatever their eligibility, a player can only be permitted to play for one team.
Autumn 2015
Guidelines for Senior Inter-Regional Teams.
It should be the case that an informed observer would accept that the team overall reflects the clubs and standard of
play of the region in question, allowing for the odd star.
It is not all that unusual for a region to find itself short of the odd player due, for example, to last minute
withdrawals. In such cases it is acceptable for ‘outsiders’ to be brought in to fill the gap but such players must not
significantly raise the strength of the region’s team and, of course, must only be used if there are no eligible local
players who could be recruited.
Where there is a team shortfall and time permits the event administrator should be informed; it may be possible to
locate suitable players by contacting other regions. Time is unlikely to permit any general consultation on the
acceptance of such new players before the event and debate on the day isn’t practical. Any objection from other
regions needs to be registered with the administrator before play has greatly progressed and results may be
amended after the event if subsequent consideration (by the District Committee) requires.
Apart from such strangers the official team should consist of those who, for example, --Have played I-R for the region regularly in recent years.
Have a history of playing in the local league.
Have played regularly (as a permanent team member) in the local league this season.
Are away at University but would otherwise have qualified.
These notes do not preclude a region from setting stricter eligibility criteria for its own team.
Usually a player will play consistently for the same region but if eligible for more than one region might, as a result,
play for different regions in consecutive years.
The Inter-Regional has been a major event in the county for many years and we want it to continue. Teams have
generally worked within the spirit of the event whilst accepting that enforcement of strict criteria would be
practically difficult and might well lead to a loss of teams to no-one’s benefit. Hopefully these notes simply document
what teams have generally been doing.
