Presidents Report - 2015/16
Dear Members, Patrons, Sponsors and Parents,
The 2015/16 season has been a fantastic and successful year both on and off the court. There is organised tennis
on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and we have pennant teams playing Monday,
Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Combine this with Total Tennis Reabold coaching, cardio tennis,
court hire, club house hire and Zumba it makes Reabold Tennis Club a very active place all year round.
Off the court the club has had a very steady year financially. Costs have been very well controlled and income
from other sources other than membership fees total 63% of our income. This has allowed the Board to have NO
increase in membership fees for the coming year. You can see in greater detail the income and expense
breakdown in Mike Hendrik’s report (Finance Chairperson) and the Accounts that are included in this annual
report.
Board
The Board consisting of Alan Armstrong, Tania Hayward, Mike Hendriks, Sue O’Keefe, Chris Smethurst and Geoff
Stooke have had a very busy and productive year.
The commitment, desire and willingness of the Board to see the club continue to grow has been truly
outstanding this past year. I am extremely grateful for their support and the work they do for the betterment of
all members of the club and on behalf of all members I thank them for their outstanding contribution to the
club.
I am very pleased to advise that the two Elected Board Members, namely Mike Hendriks and Geoff Stooke,
whose terms expire at the AGM, are both willing to stand for re-election.
Board Secretary
Since the introduction of the Reabold Board we have had three Board Secretaries; firstly Leonie Broom, then
Gavin Broom and for the past three years we have been very fortunate to have Helen Ashenden in the role.
Helen has continued to maintain the very high standard of minute taking and her timely efficiency and ongoing
task sheets means nothing escapes our attention.
Helen has indicated that she is willing to continue in this role for the next twelve months and she often has to
forego her Monday night pennant commitment to attend the Board meetings.
Thank you so much Helen.
Club Manager
Gary Bretnall completed his third year with Reabold in May this year. He continues to be very busy with all
facets of his position which include but are not limited to balancing the budget, controlling expenditure,
assisting with pennants, updating the club website and Facebook, organizing Saturday sets and running the bar.
He liaises with Total Tennis, Tennis West, Tennis Australia, Department of Sport & Recreation, Town of
Cambridge, sponsors, members and deals with all the day to day tasks that always arise in a busy club.
Gary continues to take on greater responsibility for pennants and a special mention is made for his efforts with
external functions and the club house hire. Gary attends and generally works the bar at these functions and it’s
comforting to know that the clubhouse is cleaned and secure at the functions conclusion as a result of Gary’s
attendance. Club house hire income this year was $15,666 a very handy addition to our income. Thank you Gary
once again.
Life Members
Garry Enston, Peter Morrison and Dennis Timms were granted very well deserved Life Membership at the last
AGM. Their addition sees them join a very select group of 22 members in total who have received Life
Membership since the clubs formation (1956) for their services to Reabold Tennis Club.
Club Sponsors
On behalf of our members I wish to thank all of our sponsors the list of which continues to expand. You will
notice in the financial statements that the sponsors’ advertising represents a substantial (14%) income stream
for the club.
There are a few new sponsors signing up for the upcoming season and I urge all members wherever possible to
support those who support us.
Total Tennis Reabold
The club continues to benefit strongly from the fantastic efforts of Total Tennis Reabold. Total Tennis Reabold
has had the Club Professional contract for the past six years. The enthusiasm and professionalism of the coaches
and staff at Total Tennis and the variety of programmes they deliver has seen substantial growth in participation
at both adult and junior levels, particularly in the number of pennant teams playing in the various Tennis West
competitions.
Thanks to head coach Matt Holmes and his team of Ben Tullett, Marisa Gianotti, Jon Jenkins and part-time
coaches for all their efforts throughout the year.
Honourable Mentions
I hope I don’t miss anyone but I apologise in advance if I do. Thank you to the following for assisting the club
above and beyond being a club member.
Claude Hayward – Chair & squeegee repairer, planting and weeding the Eastern boundary banks and many other
repair jobs around the club.
Jane Glass – Women’s pennant coordinator, Junior pennant coordinator,
Sandy Clarke – Mid Week pennant coordinator
Angie Garvey, Deb White and Sharon Paul – Tuesday Ladies Captains
Senior Pennant Captains – Men’s and Women’s Pennants
Parent Managers – Junior pennants teams.
Town of Cambridge
We continue to have an excellent relationship with the Town of Cambridge. We have a comprehensive lease
document with guaranteed tenure and NO rent but a maintenance agreement which sees us contribute some
$15,000 per annum and matched $2 to our $1 by the Town. The finance report provides greater details on the
balance of these funds. The arrangement we have with the Town of Cambridge is seen as the leading Club / LGA
model throughout the country by Tennis Australia.
Unlocking Tennis
The club successfully submitted an application to pilot a court booking system known as “Unlocking Tennis”.
Tennis West, Tennis Australia and the Department of Sport and Recreation have funded the program and we are
only a month or so away from it being implemented. Preliminary electrical work has been completed.
This program will allow members and non-members to book and pay for a court online. It will integrate gate
access and lighting (if required) and users will be given a pin number when they book to gain access to the
courts. The system has been very successfully trialled on the East Coast and we are looking forward to its
implementation.
Kitchen Renovation
The major project undertaken and completed in the 2015/16 season was the kitchen renovation. As a result of a
successful application to the Town of Cambridge and the knowledge that a club member was willing to make a
substantial donation to the cause, the Board committed to the project knowing that some 60% of the final cost
was covered. We sought donations from those associated with the club for the remainder and at the date of this
report have raised $46,000 towards the final cost of $55,000 leaving a current shortfall of $9,000. An enormous
thanks to those who have donated to the cause so far.
The Board is extremely happy with the end result and are confident it will serve the club well into the future. It
will not only benefit club members but it will make it more desirable for outside hirees. A huge thank you to club
member and builder David Strickland of Lawley Constructions who oversaw the project. The stainless steel fitout
was supplied by Caterlink / Simply Stainless managed by club member Haydn Chrystal.
Tournament
Reabold again successfully ran the “Aussie Floreat” Reabold Junior Hard Court Tournament in October 2015. The
matches were played at both Reabold and Hale School. Hale School continues to generously donate the use of
their courts for both pennants and tournaments. Tournament Director Leslee Holmes from Total Tennis and
Club Manager Gary Bretnall continue to do an outstanding job running this tournament and many thanks must
also go to all the volunteer club members who assisted throughout the tournament. This tournament continues
to be an annual event for our club.
Summary
I wish to thank all the club members, parents, supporters and friends on behalf of the Board of Reabold Tennis
Club for your participation and support of the tennis, social, coaching and fundraising activities throughout the
past year and may you continue to embrace all things that the tennis club offers.

President
Finance Report – 2015/16.
The club recorded an Operating loss for the year of $14,274 compared with a small loss last year $1,718. When
you add back special grant income of $17,727 the club generated a small surplus of $3,453 (2015 $7,990).
The following is an analysis of factors that contributed to the result and comments on major variances from
previous year.
Membership revenue decreased 8.7% from $70,814 to $64,657. This is a reflection of current economic climate
causing a drop in membership numbers from 340 to 318 It should be noted that 37% of the clubs revenue is
generated from membership highlighting the importance of the many other revenue streams to ensure the
clubs ongoing viability. Net fund raising revenue was down by 37% from $13,058 to $8,159 primarily due to the
fact last year we had a special fund raising dinner which was not repeated this year.
The Club Professional income decreased 19% or $7,192 from $38,011 to $30,819. This was due
to compensation paid to Total Tennis for loss of income for a 2 month period before December 2015 when the
hard court lights were required to be repaired. These repairs also caused a lower electricity charge for the year
and corresponding lower recovery charge.
On the expenditure side Grounds miscellaneous expenditure increased by $2,094 from $1,920 to $4,014. This
included expenditure on changing light globes for hard courts, vertimowing, shade sail removing and repairing,
and weeding “Hayward” Hill.
Club house “other" increased $1,419 from $315 to $1,734. Expenditure related to cost of a new urn and kettle,
new outdoor chairs, honour board relocation and archiving expenses.
Grant income this year of $17,727 comprised of $15,000 contribution to the kitchen renovations from TOC,
$2,000 from the TOC for a new computer and balance DSR equipment subsidies used for new court scoreboards.
Summary
Although the club suffered an operating loss of $14,274 during the year, the clubs financial position remained
reasonably healthy with cash on hand as at 30 June 2016 of $27,761, a reserve fund with the Town of Cambridge
of $135,166 and no debt. After adding back depreciation the club generated a cash surplus of $34,243.These
funds were used to make a $15,284 contribution to the TOC asset maintenance reserve, down payment on
kitchen renovations of $15,000 and a new laptop $1,600.
As initiated by Board Member Geoff Stooke we have established a mechanism through the Australian Sports
Foundation whereby we can accept tax deductible donations to assist funding capital works for the our club.
This fund will assist in meeting our commitment to funding the new kitchen and other capital projects.
As noted above the club has a diversified number of revenue streams. This reduces risk and the overall source of
funds assists maintaining the clubs assets and keeps membership fees to reasonable levels.
As at 30 June 2016 the TOC maintenance fund balance was $135,166 of which the club has contributed $75,208
(Cash reserve as recorded on our balance sheet). During the year the TOC paid $28,000 on painting the club and
replacement of the asbestos eaves and $19,750 repairing the hardcourt lights. All these major repairs were
funded by the TOC.
I would like to take this opportunity as I do every year to extend my thanks to Gary Bretnall our Club Manager
who is responsible for the day to day financial management of the club and preparing the routine financial
reports to enable the board to exercise oversight of the clubs financial affairs. Finally I thank our Honorary
Auditor Michael Langoulant for again conducting his review of the year end accounts.
Mike Hendriks
Finance Chairperson
Sponsorship – 2015/16
On behalf of all members I thank our generous sponsors who have contributed $23,788 to the clubs income.
This is a valuable revenue stream that assists with funding the clubs operations. To ensure we continue to
receive this support I urge all members and friends to support these sponsors whenever possible.
This year we welcome as a new silver sponsor Davvero Cafe e cucina at the Forum along with the following
Bronze sponsors Sims Wheelie Washing-Henning Jacobsen, Wendy Dallas-Smith Interiors and Travel
Counsellors-Chrissie Shah.
Other club members that would like to promote their business please contact our Club Manager for sponsorship
opportunities.

Social Tennis Report - 2015/16
The social tennis at the club continues to be well supported throughout the year. We have the regular players
who attend almost every Saturday, whether in the extreme heat or the most dreadful wintery day. Only hail and
maybe thunder will cease play for the midday regulars and more often than they will play through showers.
Tuesday morning ladies have a fantastic group is consistently well attended. The Wednesday afternoon men’s
group have their regular players and those who make the effort when they are available. Unfortunately, our
Thursday morning men’s group numbers are dwindling due to injury and age, so I urge any male members who
are retired and sitting home on a Thursday morning to come down and boost the numbers.

House and Social – 2015/16
Another year has passed us by at RTC. Another year that I have, with great pleasure, been part of a vibrant,
hard-working, proactive Board of Directors that has seen our tennis club become one of the best, modern
facilities in the metropolitan area. Together with my supportive social sub-committee we have enjoyed a year
jam packed with social functions including numerous Play & Stay dinners, Christmas frivolity, a Quiz Night, an
evening at Davvero! Italian Restaurant and even a Bogan or two!!!
One of the most anticipated days of the year was the re-opening of the grass courts following rehabilitation over
the winter months. Finally, after three consecutive years of wet weather, the sun shone bright and Opening Day
2015 was a complete success. The highlight of the day was the afternoon tea held in memory of much loved
member Carol Putland who had passed away only weeks earlier. My heartfelt thanks to Helen Ashenden who
baked Carol’s famous carrot cake for afternoon tea. It was also great to have Carol’s husband Leith join us for
the occasion.
With the onset of the warmer weather the anticipation for the annual President’s cocktail party grew. The
clubhouse was transformed into a garden oasis, welcome cocktails were prepared and the oysters shucked.
Billie Court entertained us with the vocal support of several club members and a good time was had by all who
attended. December was then upon us and it was time for Christmas. Eighty guests enjoyed an evening of song
and scrumptious food to round out the calendar year and the start of the summer holidays.
2016 was the year of projects at the Club. It started with the painting of the clubhouse both inside and out and
the replacement of the asbestos eaves. This was all undertaken by the Town of Cambridge and although the
Clubhouse encountered a little upheaval at the time it was well worth it. Following completion and a much
needed busy bee to get things back to normal we held our first ever Bogan Bingo night. This function was one of
a kind. Bogan’s came out of the wood work with their mullets and flannelette shirts, the King and Queen
Bogan’s were crowned and the air guitar competition was a hit with the younger members of the crowd. This
event was soon followed by a Housewarming BBQ and Artwork display.
A very successful Quiz night rounded out the social functions prior to the long overdue KITCHEN RENOVATION.
This project took about 4 weeks to finalise and was under the watchful eye of Builder and Club member David
Strickland. Many thanks David for your assistance with this major improvement to our Club. We can now look
forward to many more functions utilising this fabulous asset.
As a final note I would like to thank those who have supported our functions, hired our clubhouse, help out with
busy bees and continued to be part of our wonderful club. Special mention must be made of my family for their
continued support in my role at RTC. Without your understanding I would not be able to contribute as I do.
Thank you. I know we will all continue to enjoy the sport that we love and the people we have met for many
years to come.

The Club continues to use the successful formula for the Club Championship with the event broken down to
have the Singles played prior and on Open Day and the Doubles played at the end of April to cap off an
enjoyable season. In addition what made the event more attractive was the shorter format during the qualifying
rounds to progress the rounds in one afternoon with the final to be played on Open Day.
There was plenty of representation from the pennant players. The final was played on Opening Day with club
regular Dean Williams taking on Board Member and pennant player Alan Armstrong. With a change to the
tournament format, both players agreed to play on grass court in front of a packed clubhouse. With the match
being more spectator friendly, members thoroughly enjoyed the match between the booming left handed serve
of Alan and the crafty, angled play of Dean. In a highly entertaining final Dean went back to back and has 2 win 0
loss record over Alan.
The ladies final was also highly contested with Lukundo Simbile taking on Nina Rajan Zimmermann. Playing the
final on the traditional plexi-cushion saw the young and upcoming Lukundo battle it out with experienced
campaigner Nina. It was fantastic match which saw eventual winner Lukundo prevail in a tight contest.
The Doubles Club Championship was hosted over the weekend of 18 th and 19th of March, culminating in a
sundowner. Combinations of pairs in both Open and Division 2 doubles events included but not limited to father
and sons, Board Members and Coaches and husband and wife.
Thanks to Mike Hendriks and Jane Glass for assisting with the Club Championships.
Senior Pennant Report - 2015/16
Winter 2015:
Playing winter pennants continues to grow in popularity within our club membership due to the different
formats and cooler weather. Reabold entered five teams in the Saturday competition-two Women’s teams and
three Men’s teams. None of these teams made the grand final this season however all were competitive within
their divisions.
Barbara Tate’s Monday Night team won a shield which is mentioned in the Midweek Report.
Carol Putland:
The club mourned the loss of Carol Putland in September 2015. Carol took up tennis with great gusto after
having her children and retiring from netball. We all remember Carol in different ways whether it was playing in
a pennant team with her, watching her compete in the club championships or sharing her famous carrot cake.
Carol absolutely loved the game of tennis and would always answer the call to fill in for teams if they were short.
She was a wonderful person to have around the club and is sadly missed.
Summer 2015/16:
Reabold fielded three Saturday Women’s teams and three Saturday Men’s teams, all with a long list of willing
reserves. Thanks to all those players.
The women’s division 1 team was the only one to make the grand final this season. They went to Higgins Park
where they were playing for a place in Women’s State League. They were ably captained by Marinela Antonic
but were narrowly beaten on the day. The team were without Crista Santiago (who was awarded a place at
Melbourne University for 2016), Kristy Jones (who developed tennis elbow half way through the season), and
Julie Mellor (who was injured). Our young team members of Olivia Mann, Beth Taylor and Lukundo Simbile all
stepped up and will benefit from the experience of playing in a final and will hopefully go one better in 2016-17.
Olivia Mann had a great season and was awarded MVP in women’s division 1.
The midweek night competitions for men, women and mixed teams continue to grow in popularity. Reabold
again entered teams in the men’s Monday and Wednesday night competitions. A special mention must be made
of Trent Vivian who has captained and encouraged the Monday night players for four seasons now, and to Peter
Vaughan who has been captain of the famous “Uber” team for a similar time. With a dedicated captain, teams
function well and all players are usually very willing to play on in the following season.
With the downturn in the oil and gas industry we said goodbye to several of our expat friends who all returned
to jobs overseas. They include Laurent Pouret, Matias Saettone and Alberto Rizzi. It demonstrates the need to
keep encouraging our junior players to come through the ranks as the turnover in player numbers is quite high.
Thanks must go to Matthew Holmes (Total Tennis Reabold) who took the players for training each week. This
created a great club and team culture. Gary Bretnall our Club Manager assisted in the role of Match Supervisor
as well as performing a lot of administration tasks behind the scene. Gary has been a great help in assisting
players with the process of setting up their new Tennis Accounts, linking their Player Profiles and educating
them in the use of Match Centre, all of which has been quite challenging.
Pennants continues to be a growth area for membership within our club and we look forward to seeing more
new faces competing for Reabold in the coming season.
Winter 2016:
A special mention must be made in this report of Barbara Tate’s and Helen Ashenden’s Monday Night Fast 4
singles/doubles teams. These two teams jumped on board when these new competitions were set up and have
been keen participants ever since.
Weekend teams participating were Saturday Men’s Division 2, 5 and 10, and Women’s Division 1 and 3. The
women’s division 3 Saturday team (Captain- Danica Delaney) is due to play in the semi-finals on the 6th August at
Bull Creek.
The Wednesday Night Doubles Division 1 team (Captain Craig Tweedie) won the shield. Well done to

The Junior Club Championships was run on the weekend 19th & 20th March with some matches postponed to the
week following Easter. The Tournament consisted of 15 players in a round robin format to guarantee players at
least a couple of matches. There were a few contributing factors for the less than ideal turn out: Transition from
summer to winter sport, Total Tennis’ tournament the week before and Easter between tournament weeks.
Despite the less than ideal turn out all those played enjoyed the competition and it’s great to see the depth of
up and coming talent that our coaching team at Total Tennis are working with.
Next year we will co-ordinate with Total Tennis to align the junior club championships with one of their
tournaments.
Junior Pennant Report - 2015/16
Winter 2015:
Reabold again fielded eight junior teams which is the maximum we can cater for with 8 hard courts. They were:
Girls 12 (Division 1), Girls 14 (Division 2), Girls 16 (Division 3), Boys 14 (Division 2), Boys 12 (Division1), Green Ball
(Division 1), Green Ball (Division 6) and Orange Ball (Zone 2).
Two of these teams made the Grand Final but both were runners-up.
The Orange Ball team of Jana Ruzic, Lucy Quinlan, Bianca Patchett, Tayla Matera and Aleisha Horridge were
narrowly defeated by a team from Robertson Park.
The Green Ball (Division 6) team of Georgia Kronja, Mia Dodd, Nadia Monzu, Sioni Zankaria and Laura Bantock
lost to a team of boys from Scarborough but played really well.
The Green and Orange Ball are mixed competitions with the girls and boys playing either with or against each
other.
Thanks must go to Gary Bretnall who did the majority of Match Supervising during the winter season.
Summer 2015/16:
The juniors at the club formed half of the total number pennant teams fielded by Reabold in the Tennis West
summer competition which is a great achievement.
Reabold nominated sixteen junior teams which included six Boys’ teams, four Girls’ teams, four mixed Green Ball
teams and two mixed Orange Ball teams.
The club on a Sunday morning was a very busy and vibrant place to be. The table tennis table was set up, the
canteen well stocked with amazing home bake and all the courts were in use. Gary Bretnall our Club Manager
did a fabulous job in preparing the venue each week and assisting me with Match Supervising. Gary also assisted
players and parents each week with score entry and general queries after the transition from “Results Vault “to
“Match Centre”. This process was a headache for many as the system had its imperfections, but Gary dealt with
them all calmly and efficiently.
It is hoped that players will all have their Tennis Accounts set up for the upcoming season and will be more
proficient in using “Match Centre” to view fixtures and results, print scorecards, and enter and confirm results.
The idea of a Captain’s Night was instigated by Indie Smethurst and Emily Forrest to provide a fun and social
aspect for the juniors of the club. Three of these nights were held and were all rated highly by those that
attended. Several of our juniors also attended our “Aussie Day” event which enabled them to enjoy some social
tennis against senior club members.
A very successful doubles morning was held on Sunday the 29th November (as there was a bye for all teams)
where senior members of the club were invited to assist each of the junior teams with their doubles play.
Thanks must go to Dean Williams, Harry Phillips, Judy Kozak, Janet Ferreira, Billie Court, Leah Crabb, Jane Glass,
Tony Glass and Rowena Mackiewicz. All teams showed a significant improvement in their doubles play following
this session.
The annual junior social event, the Music Quiz Night, held on February 26th was again a huge success with
nearly 90 juniors attending. Thanks to Jon Lennon the quiz master, Gary Bretnall and Chris Smethurst for crowd
and noise control and to the many parents who stepped in and helped on the night with serving the food, drinks
and tidying up. It was a fun way to celebrate the season.
Reabold is very lucky to have a very supportive and friendly group of parents who are always willing to help Gary
and myself out. Special thanks to those who took on the role of team managers. It was very much appreciated.
Finally, special mention must be made of the coaching staff from “Total Tennis” who have taken a great interest
in all teams and worked hard to ensure all players are well trained and prepared for their matches.
Congratulations must go to the following 2015-16 winning teams.
Orange Ball (7-10 Year) –Division 2
Tayla Matera, Cooper Matera, Jana Ruzic, Jake Smethurst and Annika Hofman.
Team Manager -Sue Matera.
Boys’ 12 Division 1:
Andrew Horridge, Flynn Desmond, Harry Davison-Petch and Ignacio Saettone.
Team Manager- Sophie Davison.
Girls’ 14 Division 4:
Matilde Helliar, Emily Bantock, Anne Jagtenberg and Indah Chester.
Team manager- Tina Jagtenberg.
Winter 2016:
Winter 2016 was wetter and colder than previous seasons and our six teams experienced several washouts.
There were some great matches played (when the sun was out) and those that kept their tennis up over the
winter months showed great improvement.
Five of the six teams are playing in the semi-finals on Sunday the 7th August. The two Green Ball teams have
finished on top of the ladder and are both poised to win their shields with home finals while the other teams
face a tougher battle with away matches. Final results will be posted in next year’s annual report and on the
weekly Reabold Reporter.

Grounds Report – 2015/16
Our groundsman Sean Kehane continues to be very proactive in managing our grass courts and surrounds. Sean
has been with us for seven years now and he takes great pride in his work at Reabold can regularly be found
working on a Saturday morning sweeping the hardcourts if it has been windy overnight, as he knows the leaves
will be all over the courts.
Reabold still has the best lines in the metropolitan area and even after drying after heavy rain chalk will still “fly”
if the lines are hit.
Special thanks needs to go to the Town of Cambridge who continue to help with the pruning and lopping of
trees, removal of rubbish and general willingness to help whenever possible. Their effort in assisting the club
with our hardcourt lighting issues over the last two years has been outstanding.
The maintenance program has commenced for the upcoming season with all grass courts being vertimowed in
early July and coring will occur in early August. Hopefully with the right weather conditions the traditional midOctober opening day remains on track.

Tuesday Ladies Midweek Tennis Report – 2015/16
This season, Angie Garvey, Deb White and Sharon Paul put their hands up for the mid-week ladies captaincy,
taking over from Rhonda Bishop and Jenny Sheen who did a great job during 2014/15.
The decision was made to go with three captains due to the personal commitments of building or moving house,
travel plans and as it turned out, injury and subsequent surgery for us all.
The traditional Christmas and Easter lunches and the (mostly) monthly teas have been enjoyed by all giving the
ladies an opportunity to get together after a morning of good tennis.
To celebrate the completion of the new kitchen, a Christmas in July lunch was held with the raffle proceeds
going to the kitchen renovation fund.
Our members remain strong with most Tuesdays taking up to six courts. We have said goodbye to some ladies
who have moved away and others who are unable to attend regularly on Tuesdays. We have also welcomed
some new ladies to the club.

Women’s Midweek Pennant Tennis – 2015/16
Winter 2015:
Two of our midweek teams won shields. They wereMonday Night Singles/Doubles Women Division 2:
Barbara Tate (Captain) Lisa Ettridge
Neesha Flint
Jackie Harding
Marise Dawson.
This team beat Kardinya in the final 4 rubbers to 2 rubbers.
Wednesday Midweek Open Division 1:
Judy Kozak
Iveta Kuhnel
Sandy Clarke (Captain)
Kerry Edwards
Pippen Parissis.
This team played without Iveta in the final (who returned to the US to live) and won by three games. This was a
wonderful team effort against a younger and very consistent Peppermint Grove team.
Over the past 12 months the club has said sad goodbyes to several valued players who have had to leave
Reabold as they return overseas due to their husband’s work placement. They include Iveta Kuhnel, Janice
Stewart, Lisa McKeon, Natalia Queiroz and Fiona Rots. During their time at the club these ladies all made a
positive contribution to the club and their team while enjoying the friendship and camaraderie of our wonderful
Reabold pennant players.
Summer 2015/16:
Reabold fielded two Monday night teams and seven teams each Wednesday.
The competition was very strong across all divisions and we fortunately had one winning team last summer.
Wednesday Midweek Open Division 3:
Anne-Laure Gide
Cecile Harbach
Billie Court
Mariana Kaker
Wendy Dallas-Smith (Captain)
Natalia Queiroz.
Reabold proved too strong on the day defeating the top team Dalkeith.
7 sets - 64 games to 4 sets - 56 games. This was an excellent outcome.
The Wednesday Open Division 4 team (Fiona Melville captain) lost in their final. They finished with 5 sets - 49
games losing to Melville Palmyra 7 sets - 54 games.
Winter 2016:
We have had strong participation fielding two teams on Monday nights and five teams on Wednesdays.
Wednesday Division 1, 3 and 4 all played in the grand final on Wednesday the 3rd August. Unfortunately all
three teams lost. There is always next year!

Total Tennis Annual Report – 2015/16
It is really nice to sit back and reflect on the year that has been whilst writing this report. The second half of
2015 and 2016 to date has been a ground-breaking period for this business. I’m confident in saying that one of
our biggest successes to date was securing the services of Marisa Gianotti. We are so fortunate to have Marisa
manage the administration and take the business to another level. Coupled with her skills off the court Marisa is
becoming an accomplished tennis coach having recently secured a women’s coaching scholarship from Tennis
Australia.
Marisa wasn’t the only coach to come on board in the last financial year, with Total Tennis securing the services
of Jon Jenkin earlier this year. After a successful stint in London, Jon was keen to get back to Australia to further
his already very accomplished coaching career. The real strength of Total Tennis at the moment is the fact that
for all intents and purposes we currently have four senior head coaches. I am very confident in saying that there
would be very few coaching businesses in Western Australia that could boast such a number. The major
beneficiaries of this strong mix of coaches have been our aspiring junior clients and club members. This year has
produced some outstanding results and I’m proud to say all of these kids are home grown athletes, which speaks
volumes for our coaching program here at Total Tennis.
Total Tennis are also proud to have launched a new website (total-tennis.com.au).The site is easily accessed on
both mobile phones and tablets and clients are able to enrol and pay on line. This has taken a lot of time and
commitment to the complete the task and we thank all those who were involved in the process.
As previously mentioned Total Tennis has many promising junior players in the Super 8’s, Super 10’s and Super
12’s competing at the highest level in the state for their age at the State Tennis Centre. Both Ben Tullett and
Marisa Gianotti worked as Coach/Managers for some of these teams. Total Tennis has the largest number of
participants in the Super 8’s and Super 10’s competition in Western Australia.
2016 Outstanding Junior Accomplishments
Super 8’s: Matthew Thompson, Wil Bacci, Liam McDowell, Noah Quinlan, Lian Brewsher
Super 10’s: Jana Ruzic, Nadia Monzu, Lucy Quinlan, Aleisha Horridge, Emily Fricke, Cameron Thompson, Mateo
Saettone
Super 12’s: Georgie Ferreira
James Newton was chosen to represent Western Australia in the Super 10's National final event which was held
in Melbourne during the 2nd week of the Australian Open. The WA boys finished 4th overall in the competition.
In addition, James was also recognised individually being presented with one of only six awards given out for his
outstanding movement around the court. Finally, James was also recently chosen to represent WA in the Bruce
Cup, which will be held in Albury Wodonga later this year.
James is also joined by Andrew Horridge and Jana Ruzic training at the State Tennis Centre in the Tennis West
Junior High Performance Squad.
Our juniors have had some great success in local tournaments in the past 12 months. The Girls 10’s age group
has been the stand out with singles and doubles titles going to Nadia Monzu, Mia Dodd, Jana Ruzic, Aleisha
Horridge, Lucy Quinlan and Georgia Kronja.
Total Tennis coordinated its most successful Hotshots Tournament just before Easter which saw over 60 junior
competitors take to the court.
Red Ball Winner: Kaif Khan
Red Ball Runner Up: Luke McLernon
Orange Ball Winner: Aussie Prendiville
Orange Ball Runner Up: Henry Hogan
Green Ball Winner: Matthew Thompson
Green Ball Runner Up: Tom Le Page
Yellow Ball Winner: James Newton
Yellow Ball Runner Up: Andrew Horridge
Yellow Ball Div 2 Winner: Thea Groneberg
Yellow Ball Div 2 Runner Up: Sean Rimmer
With all this talk of junior tennis I think it is important to mention how passionate I am about coaching adults
and more specifically at the moment women’s pennant teams. Reabold had a very tough time of it yesterday as I
witnessed three teams losing in the finals of the winter midweek pennant competition. Better luck next year
girls, special mention also to our ladies at social tennis on Tuesday mornings. I think it would be hard pressed to
find better numbers anywhere in Perth. Also a big thankyou to Sandy Clarke who works tirelessly and often
thanklessly to organise our midweek pennants.
A big congratulation to the club on the great new looking kitchen which I think has added value to an already
fantastic tennis club. Special mentions must go to all who donated and were involved.
A special thankyou to Gary Bretnall for his tireless work as Club Manager. Thankyou Gary for always offering
your help and support.
Last but not least I would like to thank Tony and Jane Glass. Tony, thank you for all your support and guidance
over the years and for always steering the club in the right direction on and off the court. Jane, thank you for
your relentless dedication and countless time spent organising pennants. Total Tennis greatly appreciates your
tireless work.
Bring on 2017!
