Post-Secondary Program Accreditation Process
In accordance with CPHR Canada, provincial member associations are responsible for
identifying post-secondary credit-level degree, diploma, and certificate programs in their
respective province for accreditation.
1.
HRIA will conduct an analysis of all provincial post-secondary institutions (PSI) with creditlevel human resources programs (degree, diploma, and certificate). HRIA will establish a
relationship with [PSI] to gauge interest in the accreditation process.
2.
[PSI] completes the Accreditation Application and will provide the following information
and documentation on the program to be accredited and the courses within that program:
Program Information and Documentation
a)
Name of the program
b)
Degree, diploma, or certificate granted
c)
List of courses (numbers and names) that make up the entire program
d)

e)
Completed knowledge assessment for the program as a whole
f)
[PSI] is required to assess at what level their graduates will be able to
demonstrate knowledge within the CPHR Competency Framework

3.
As noted above, [PSI] must conduct a comprehensive audit of the HR program and each
individual course. This audit allows the [PSI] to provide a detailed report for successful
review of the accreditation application. This also allows HRIA reviewers to verify
information provided in the accreditation application.
4.
HRIA will engage qualified volunteers to form an Accreditation Committee to review the
accreditation application provided by the PSI to determine if the program curriculum
content covers at least 80% of the CHRP Competency Framework.
5.
HRIA reviewers will provide HRIA with a written report indicating how the human
resources courses align or do not align with the CPHR Competency Framework.
6.
If a PSI program does not meet the criteria for accreditation, HRIA will provide an
explanation as to what changes to the program curriculum are needed to be successfully
accredited.

7.
HRIA advises CPHR Canada of the result of the review of the accreditation application.
8.
When HRIA grants accreditation to [PSI’s] HR program, HRIA and the PSI will sign an
initial two (2) year Accreditation Agreement.
9.
Official notification of program accreditation to [PSI] will be issued by HRIA.
Maintenance and Renewal
Following the success of the two (2) year accreditation, HRIA and [the PSI] may sign a new five
(5) year accreditation agreement. The PSI will agree to inform HRIA of any substantial changes
to the HR program to maintain continuation of the accreditation during this time.
Accreditation will be awarded for five (5) years, after which [the PSI] will be able to renew the
accreditation unless significant changes have taken place, in which case a review of the HR
program will be required.
Accreditation will only be valid for the structure and content of the program as submitted. If
either the structure or content of the accredited program changes significantly within the five (5)
year period, it will be the responsibility of [PSI] to advise HRIA as soon as possible.
The level of information required for the renewal of accreditation will depend on the number of
changes that have been made to the original program since initial accreditation.
