Defrost the freezer(s) Seal the packed boxes, and keep just what is absolutely necessary, clothes needed to the last minute can go in suitcases Effect bank transfers and remove contents in safety deposit boxes Place all of the boxes and small articles in a single room on the main floor The day before moving day Take down draperies, light fixtures or other attached objects Arrange to have the elevator keys and protective pads Clear corridors, passages and entreyways Identify any boxes or articles that you will transport yourself On moving day Keep a few toys for the kids Keep your checkbook, moving contract and invoice, cash, jewelry and important documents Put dirty clothes and bedding into bags Advise telephone company of cancellation as required Make sure to get rid of any trash before leaving Inspect each room carefully with the movers before their departure Take note of the electrical/gas/water counters Lower the heating thermostats Check the condition of your furniture with the movers Lock doors and windows Supervise the movers Turn off lighting Check the inventories prepared by the movers if that has been done Advise the neighbors of your departure Confirm the time that the mover will arrive at the destination and provide a phone number in case that there is a change Turn over the door keys, garage door opener, etc..
