Entrepreneurship Competition
for University Students Across Georgia (EC-USAG)
WHY: To enhance the learning objectives of university students in Georgia through the creation and
presentation of business plans for startup and relatively new small business ventures … so that they aspire
to become entrepreneurs.
WHO:
 Participants: enrolled students or 2014 graduates of Georgia-based universities and colleges
 Co-Sponsors: TiE-Atlanta (www.tieatlanta.org) and Georgia Small Business Development
Center/SBDC (www.georgiasbdc.org)
WHAT/WHERE:
 The competition is open to college students within Georgia for a business plan for a new
entrepreneurial venture to be presented at TiECON Southeast in Spring 2015. Currently enrolled
college students or graduates during 2014 are eligible to participate.
 Monetary prizes for first, second and third place winning teams will be awarded at $5000, $3000
and $2000 respectively per team. Student teams and faculty advisors participating in the
competition are also offered free attendance for the entire conference. The program offers
consulting services, mentoring, financial guidance, and access to capital and customers.
 Leading up to and following the competition, student teams and faculty advisors can take
advantage of SBDC and TiE resources from Q4 2014 through Q2 2015.
WHEN/HOW:
 The competition’s Program Team (“Program Team”) consists of:
o Co-Chairs: Dr. Paul Lopez/TiE Atlanta Charter Member; Lydia Jones/SBDC North Georgia
o Program Team Members: Dr. Benn Konsynski, Steve Cook, Rachel Zick, Ashish Thakur
 Program steps and timing:
o Nomination form and a concept form (aka “Q7”) are due via email to [email protected] by 1/23/15.
o The competition calendar is as follows:
 Approved teams may join an information call on 1/29/15 @ 8:30-9:30AM; students
and faculty advisors should call in to 888-524-2575
 Qualifying Round on 2/21/15, from 8:30AM to 4:30PM at ATDC (www.atdc.org) in
Atlanta
 Competition Day on 4/18/15, from 8:30AM to 5:30PM in Atlanta as part of TiECON
Southeast, at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel (www.renaissancewaverly.com)
