FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SYN FREE KICK BAND COMPETITION WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT : DRUNK MUMS for 2012 RECLINK COMMUNITY CUP - MELBOURNE Drunk Mums will have the honour of joining Bunny Monroe, Boomgates and Blue Ruin on stage at the Reclink Community Cup this year at Elsternwick Park on Sunday 24th June after a bunch of highly impressive bands battled it out on Thursday 24th May at The Tote Hotel as part of the annual SYN Free Kick Competition. Drunk Mums are a four piece formerly hailing from Cairns, who now call Melbourne their home, and their 70s garagesurf sounds are heavily influenced by Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Mummies, and Black Lips. That being the case it won’t be too far a stretch for them to perform a song by The Cramps (a prerequisite of the winning band) as part of their set in keeping with the Can The Mega’s Do The Dogs theme this year. An expert panel of judges comprising of Jenny O’Keefe (PBS 106.7FM Homebrew), Simon Winkler (Triple R 102.7FM Music Director), Belle Wade (SYN Music Director) and Michael Cini (Money For Rope/The Rockdogs) endured the hard task of determining the winner as the compeition was tight at The Tote Hotel amongst Drunk Mums and the other finalists Damn Terran, Howlin’ Steam Train, Sheriff and Udays Tiger. The competition attracted a strong field this year with thirty initial applicants needing to be whittled down to just five bands for the final battle. The event which has been running for three years now is an initiative which offers an emerging band or artist with members under the age of 30 the chance to perform the opening set on stage at the 2012 Reclink Community Cup. The 2012 Reclink Community Cup is a family-friendly fun day out witnessing a highly entertaining game of AFL footy, and the day also showcases some of our best live music. Over the event’s long history bands who have performed include Paul Kelly, Magic Dirt, The Cosmic Psychos, The Living End, Mach Pelican, Tumbleweed and You Am I. 2012 Reclink Community Cup Can The Mega’s Do The Dogs?
