New chip debit card information

Activate your new
chip debit card.
What you need to know about your new
chip MasterCard® Debit Card:
• Activate your new chip debit card when you
receive it. This action will also deactivate your
current debit card. All non-chip debit cards will
be deactivated on August 31, 2016.
• Your debit card number will change. You will be
issued a new debit card number. If you have reoccurring payments made by your current card
(e.g., gym memberships, utilities, subscriptions,
etc.), you will need to contact the companies
and update your card information after you
activate your new card.
• If you have Premium Checking or Business
Checking and earn UChoose Rewards® points
on your debit card, your point balance will
automatically be transferred to your new card.
• Your new chip debit card features CardValet®,
an app that allows you to manage your debit
card usage through your mobile device. You
can set spending parameters and have the
ability to turn your card “on” and “off.” Visit
scfederal.org/debitcard for details.

Your new MasterCard® has microchip technology
to provide an extra level of security with every
purchase you make.
How do chip cards work?
Start the payment process by swiping your card, just
as you do today. If a merchant’s terminal is chipenabled you’ll be prompted to insert your card.
1. Insert your card, face up and
chip end into the terminal.
2. L
eave the card in the
terminal during the entire
transaction.
3. F
ollow the instructions on
the screen and either sign
your name or enter your
personal identification
number (PIN) as needed. Be
sure to remove your card and
take your receipt when the
transaction is complete.
If a merchant isn’t using a chip-enabled terminal
yet, the transaction will process as it normally does.
At an ATM
The process is essentially the same as at a
merchant. Insert your chip card into the terminal
and follow instructions on the screen. Depending
on the type of ATM, you might be prompted to
re-insert your card. Leave the card in the ATM
until the transaction is complete and the card is
released, and then remove your card and any cash
you may have withdrawn. A PIN is needed for ATM
transactions.
On the Internet or on the phone
Nothing has changed for transactions made online
or by telephone, so you’ll make payments just as
you do today.
