User Manual
Purpose: This application is intended to allow for the quick and easy computation of Take-Off and
Landing Data for the crew of the KC-10A. By filling out the fields in the ‘Input’ column the ‘Output’
column will automatically display the pertinent 𝑉1 , 𝑉2 , 𝑉𝐶𝐸𝐹 , 𝑒𝑡𝑐 …
Input Pane has fields
for all factors which
are pertinent to
calculating Take-Off
Data.
This pane displays any
information about
calculations that can
be automatically
determined from
information in the
input pane.
This area of screen, the
‘Output’ pane, will
automatically display
pertinent TOLD data as
input is entered.
This tab bar provides controls to
see the default view, revert to a
previous set of data in the event
of a program crash, and to see an
advanced set of options.
The above figure shows what the Take-Off portion of the TOLD App looks like. Selecting any of the
buttons brings up a new detailed view while selecting any of the text fields will bring up a keyboard
for text entry.

View Hierarchy
‘Select Air Base’
loads a list of
bases that can be
searched through
in order to select
the base that you
are taking off from
‘Wind’ loads a more detailed
view that allows for the easy
entry of wind speed, direction,
gust, and variation

View Hierarchy
Selecting ‘Info’ from the bottom
tab bar brings you to an
informational page with options to
delete locally saved runway
information, and with a toggle to
specify whether or not you
currently have access to the
application’s online component
Selecting ‘Calculator’ from the
bottom tab bar will return you to
the default layout enabling you to
see all of your calculated TOLD
output.

View Details:
Main View – Input Column
In order to calculate TOLD
information simply complete
this column from top to bottom
Tap this button to bring up
a list of bases. Tap the
base you are taking off
from and then select the
runway and configuration
you are using
Tapping this button will cause
the application to download the
most recently available list of
base and runway information
Tapping this will bring up a wind
entry tool. Simply tap and drag
on the tool to indicate wind
speed and direction.
Enter your remaining
information in these text
fields by tapping on the
box and then typing the
known value in with the
keyboard that appears
Using these toggles indicate
whether or not your AC, Engine
Deicing, or Wind Deicing are on

View Details:
Main View – Auto Generated & Output
As information is entered in the
input column the fields in the
‘Auto-Generated’ pane will update.
You can manually overwrite this
information and the calculations
will change to reflect this. THIS IS
NOT RECOMMENDED
These output fields will
automatically update
as information is
entered in the input
pane

View Details:
Wind Entry
Once data entry is complete
press the ‘Done’ button to
return to your previous view
As you drag out your wind
arrow the wind speed value
will change to reflect how
the magnitude of the arrow.
As you drag out your wind
arrow the direction value
will change to reflect the
angle of the arrow.
The outer blue circle
represents the maximum
allowable wind speed while
the inner circle represents a
wind speed of zero
Indicate here the presence of
variable winds. Your first
arrow will stay locked and you
are draw a second
The box below the switch
indicates the angle between
your drawn arrows
Use this slider to
indicate wind gusts

View Details:
Select Air Base
After tapping ‘Select Air Base’ the input pane will flip to reveal the base listing. This page describes how
to navigate through the menus you will be presented with when selecting a base.
When you are at the main listing of bases tap
here to bring up a keyboard to enter search
terms (Search by Base name)
Tapping a heading in this menu indicates that this is
the runway that you are using. All available
information about this runway (Length, slope,
heading) will be leaded into your TOLD calculations
Tapping Runway ‘3/21’
brings you to another menu
asking for you to clarify your
heading
Tapping ‘Travis AFB’ brings
up a listing of Runways at
Travis
Tapping ‘Back’ in any of the submenus will bring you back
to the last menu you saw. Tapping it at the main listing of
bases will return you to the original input pane.

View Details:
Info
After tapping ‘Info’ in the bottom tab bar you will be presented with an info view. In addition to
providing some notes from the application developers this view also allows you to manipulate some of
the data associated with the application.
Here is a message from the developers.
Indicate here if you will be
connecting to a server to
download base information or
if you will be using a locally
stored file (a file is provided
with the application so ‘Local
XML’ will always work)
Tapping this button will erase all ‘known’ bases
and runways from the iPad (It makes it look like
the application was just installed)
