Basketball 2015-2016 Frequently Asked Questions
How are teams formed?
Team placement is on a first come, first serve basis. Players are put in age divisions based on their age as of
January 1, 2016. Players who wish to be on a team with a specific coach must register before the coaches’
team is full or they will be placed on their second choice. There are 12 players Max per team.
When are practices?
The head coach will contact the parents about practice time and locations shortly after the coaches meeting
TBD. All practices held at local schools outdoor courts. Cheerleading practice will at one of our three YMCA
location Practices will begin the week of January 11th. The specific day is chosen by coaches at the coaches
meeting.
When is the coach meeting?
It’s scheduled for Wednesday, January 13th. 5-6 (5:30) (7-8) 6:15 (9-11, 12-14) 7:00
When and where are games?
Games are all held on Saturdays at one of the Local Middle School. The season lasts from January 23-March
5th.
When will the kids receive their team shirts?
Player will receive team Jersey’s the week of the first game or on game day. If a Jersey is lost there will be a
$10.00 fee to replace it with in the first week of the season. After the first two weeks players will not be able to
purchase a replacement jersey or tee shirt. Cheerleaders will receive a Tee shirts and POM POMS which the
way keep, after the Season Coaches will be called during the week of the first game to pick up Jersey from the
Parkway Branch YMCA.
Will the players receive awards?
All players will receive awards at the last game. The coaches will be responsible for picking up awards and
passing them out to the players. Each individual team can put together their own end of the year party.
When is picture day? Do I have to purchase pictures for my child?
Picture day will is TBD. Coaches, parents and players need to arrive 1hr before game on picture day. Pictures
will be returned the week of the last game.
Parents do not have to purchase pictures but everyone must take the team picture.
What does my child need to wear to games?
Players should wear sport shorts or sweat pants. Cheerleaders should wear black shorts.
Should my child bring a Basketball to practice?
Children do not need to bring a Basketball to practice. However, if they decide to, please write their name on it
clearly with a permanent marker.
Can parents receive a copy of the YMCA Basketball rules?
We are still modifying our Youth Basketball rules for the upcoming season. Coaches will be given copies of the
rules at the coaches meeting. They will then pass those copies on to the parents at the first team practice.
Where are practice and games held?
Practices will be held outdoors and games will be held indoors at local Leon County schools.
