Cottage Hospital Welcomes Dr. John Eppolito as New Emergency
Department Director
Woodsville, NH— Cottage Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of John A.
Eppolito, Jr., M.D. as the Director of the Emergency Department.
Dr. Eppolito attended medical school at NY Medical College in Valhalla, NY and
completed his residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. He is
board certified by the American Board of Family Practice (ABFM). The American Board
of Family Practice is an organization that seeks to provide assurance to the public that
certified family physicians possess the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to
provide quality care.
He has been an Emergency Department Doctor for over ten years, having spent the
majority of that time at Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth, NH. Speare Memorial is
also a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital.
Dr. Eppolito who grew up on a dairy farm in New York State credits that lifestyle to his
desire to study medicine. He states “…I love the excitement of being an ED Doctor as
everyday is different…” He enjoys being able to multi-task and be involved in all aspects
of medicine.
He and his wife Tammy reside in Bridgewater, NH where he spends his free time playing
in the dirt with his tractor or 26-thousand pound excavator. “I like to build rock walls,
remove tree stumps or just work on my land.”
Having endured his own journey with cancer Dr. Eppolito takes incredible pride in
reassuring and comforting patients who are critically ill. “Being able to look into patients’
eyes and confidently and sympathetically understand and communicate with them is an
amazing thing.”
Cottage Hospital CEO Reg Lavoie expresses, “We are so pleased to have Dr. Eppolito as
our new Emergency Department Director. He is a brilliant physician with such a kind
nature and genuine concern for our community. Dr. Eppolito has already received rave
reviews from the hospital staff and several patients. We think he will be an excellent
edition to the Cottage Hospital Family.”
Dr. Eppolito states that a goal he has for the Emergency Department is to maximize the
capabilities of the facilities and staff to provide amazing care for our community. Cottage
Hospital’s Emergency Department is a Level III Trauma Center.
