History of Handball
The first written set of team handball
rules was published in 1906 by the
Danish gym teacher, Hölger Nielsen.
What is the aim of the game?
Handball is a team sport in which two
teams pass a ball to throw it into the
goal of the opposing team.The team
that scores most goals wins.
Handball Court
The dimensions of a Handball court are 40x20m.
DURATION
Two thirty-minute halves, with tenminute break at half-time and it ends in a
draw after regular time, there are at
maximum two overtimes of five minutes.
Players
The team has twelve members: 7 players
(six field players and a goalkeeper) and
five reserves.
HANDBALL BASIC RULES
PLAYERS
After receiving the ball, players can pass, keep
possession only for 3 seconds, or shoot the ball.
If possessing the ball, players must dribble, or can
take up to three steps without bouncing the ball.
No attacking or defending players are allowed to touch
the floor of the goal area. (6 MTS line).
HANDBALL BASIC RULES
GOALKEEPER
The ball may not be passed back to the goalkeeper
when they are positioned in the goal area.
Goalkeeper can’t leave the goal area with the ball.
When an attack player
shoot the ball and the
Goalkeeper touch the
ball, there isn’t “Corner”.
HANDBALL SANCTIONS/DISCIPLINARY
LISTENING ACTIVITY
• FREE THROW
-A throw made by a player when the opposing team has committed a foul.
-Defensive players have to position themselves at 6m. line.
• DOUBLE DRIBBLE
-Foul committed by a player when he or she runs while bouncing the ball,stops and
then bounces it again.It is penalized with a free throw.
• WARNING
-A yellow card is given to a player who has broken the rules.
• SUSPENSION
-If the player has broken the rules, referee can punish him by suspension from the
game for two minutes.
HANDBALL TECHNIQUES
Attack:
-Pass: The pass can be done in diffrents ways: chest,bounce and jump.
- Reception
- Bounce: defending bounce,attacking bounce
- Shooting: Different types: jump shot,set shot,lob shot etc….
Defence:
- Blocking: Move to attempts to intercept the attacker´s shot.
