BROCKTON SCHOOL DAY GAMES TIMELINE “Let the Games Begin!” Event Timeline: 8:15am-8:30am: 9am-9:30am: 9:45am: PE Teachers and Volunteers arrive for set-up Team arrival and registration Opening Ceremonies o o o o 10:15-11:45am Parade of Athletes National Anthem Special Olympics Oaths and Torch Ceremony Declaration of Games Open! Competition Stations begin o See below for full list o Each station is approximately 9 minutes long with 1 minute for rotation to the next station. 11:45am-Noon Awards o each athlete will receive 1 Special Olympics medal at their final station Noon-12:30pm 12:30pm 12:30pm-1pm Lunch Dismissal All depart upon cleanup COMPETITION NOTES o Each team will be assigned to the A or B circuit and will rotate between the A or B stations. o Teams will travel as 1 pre-assigned group and rotate to volunteer-run stations focusing on a variety of sports skills. Groups will be created based on age group and team numbers. If a team is small, they will be combined with another group and participate together. 1 SPORTS STATIONS Station #1: Olympic Town An athlete-favored station, this area can consist of a low stimulus activities such as arts & crafts, music and dancing. Station #2: Jumping Events Athletes will practice a variety of jumping and agility skills at the long jump pit including the official Special Olympics events of the Standing and Running Long Jump (either from a stationary or running position) Modifications will be made for an athlete in a Wheelchair Station #3: Obstacle Course Combining many skills, a fun obstacle course will be created for athletes to race against the clock. Station #4: Football Skills & Drills Volunteers will bring students through a variety of throwing, catching and kicking skills using standard and nerf footballs. Cones and hulu hoops may be used as targets. Station #5: Relay Races A popular team building, competitive event, athletes can be organized in pairs or teams of 4 on opposite ends of the track straightaway. Upon volunteer’s whistle, athletes will relay a baton back and forth, against the time, until all team members have participated, fastest group wins. For Wheelchair athletes, a slalom course can be set up with cones to weave in and out of. Station #6: Throwing Events Much like the traditional “field” elements of a Special Olympics event, athletes here will participate in different throwing skills and drills focusing on distance and accuracy. Events include: Tennis ball Throw, Softball Throw & Turbo Jav Throw Station #7: Wheelchair/Walking/Running Events Athletes will participate in one or more of the following events: o 25Meter WC/Walk/Dash o 50Meter WC/Walk/Dash Station #8: Soccer Skills & Drills Volunteers will bring students through a variety of dribbling, passing and shooting skills using soccer balls and other similar equipment.
