Room 235 Newsletter 16-20 January 2017 Interactive Read Aloud Workboard Snowballs The Big Snow Red Fox Running Stranger in the Woods Winter stories, weather/seasons, animal habitats and adaptations, how animals survive in the winter, using prior knowledge about an author and various science concepts, making connections between stories (and science) and having questions after you read a story. We also talked about positive character traits depicted by story characters this week, which leads into our social studies work for the next few weeks about people who make a difference. Writing: responses to stories, (connecting with science and providing evidence, making connections with different texts), writing a letter to a character Math: “Thinking About Numbers” problems, story problems ABC: read/sort words, trick words Write around the room (looking for words with our new glued sounds), browsing boxes, independent reading, buddy reading, chart reading Interactive/Shared Writing, Word Study Fundations: New glued sounds ank ink onk unk. We compared Math Writing Workshop Science Working with story problems, reviewing how to organize the information from the story along with explaining our thinking. the –nk and –ng glued sounds, reviewed all of our trick words, We’ve solved problems using open number lines, Base-10 blocks or “played” with our words of the day (words that represent each unifix cubes, drawing a picture and counting up in our head or spelling principle) by manipulating first letters, vowels and adding/deleting the suffix s to produce new words.
