The Crunch and Move Challenge The District Health Action Committee (DHAC) for School District 2 is working on several goals to keep students healthy and to help them success better at school. Two of these goals are to help promote healthy eating and increase physical activity in our student. In order to help reach these goals, the Public Health Nurses in the Healthy Learners in School Program, Public Health Nutritionists and our other partners are proud to present The Crunch & Move Challenge. What is The Crunch & Move Challenge? Students, school staff and parents are challenged to eat a minimum of 5 portions of vegetables and/or fruits a day for 3 days. We also want students to “attempt” to get 90 minutes of “physical activity” a day for the 3 days. Why do we need The Crunch &Move Challenge? We want students to be aware of Health Canada’s recommendation for physical activity and healthy eating. Children and adolescents that eat fruit and vegetables 5 or more times a day are less likely to be overweight or obese.
