SENIOR WEEKEND SPLIT
• The Catamounts used 27 saves from Stefanos Lekkas and a strong
third period to snap Merrimack’s eight-game unbeaten streak in a
3-1 victory last Friday night to open a two-game series
• Ross Colton (11) and Brian Bowen (12) had power play goals, while
Craig Puffer (9) added an insurance goal in the third period
• Brett Seney’s top shelf backhander with 6:28 left in the third on
Saturday held up as the game-winner as the Warriors responded
with a 3-2 win on Vermont’s Senior Night to earn a split
• Jarrid Privitera and Brady Shaw had the goals for the Catamounts,
who out-shot Merrimack 33-23 on the night
• UVM closed the weekend 3-for-6 on the power play
REGULAR SEASON RECAP
• The Catamounts registered their highest regular season league finish (sixth) since 2009 when they were tied for third
• Vermont posted double-digit Hockey East wins for the third time
in the last four seasons, doing so for the first time since winning
double-digit league games five straight years from 2005-09
• UVM went 8-3-1 vs. the bottom six teams and 2-5-3 vs. the top five
• The Catamounts faced a ranked team 16 times and posted a 6-6-4
record in those matchups
• Vermont had a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1) and a fivegame winning streak during the regular season
PUT A BOW ON IT
• Brian Bowen was named the Warrior Hockey East Player of the
Week on Feb. 20 after a four-point weekend at Boston College
• The Littleton, Massachusetts native scored three goals and added
an assist in a pair of comeback ties against the first-place Eagles
• The forward leads the team with 12 goals, scoring four times in his
last four games, and ranks tied for second with 24 points
• In 14 games since the turn of the New Year, he ranks fourth in the
league with 10 goals and 11th with 17 points
• Bowen is tied for 11th in Hockey East with a team-high six PPG
• Was a point-per-game player during regular season league play
CLASS OF 2017
• Vermont’s senior class is tied for fourth all-time in the Division I
era of the program (1974) in wins by a single class with 75
• The class is just four wins from climbing into second all-time and
can tie the Class of 1989 for third with a victory tonight
• Led by future NHL standouts Martin St. Louis, Eric Perrin, and Tim
Thomas, the Class of 1997 is the winningest class with 83 victories
• The 10 members of the Class of 2017 are tied in fourth place with
the Class of 2009, who went to the NCAA Frozen Four as seniors

SERIES HISTORY
• Tonight marks the 57th meeting of the all-time series and the
second First Round matchup at the Gut in the last three seasons
• Vermont took three of four points from Maine at Gutterson back
in November with a 6-2 victory and 2-2 come-from-behind tie
• The Catamounts were swept in Orono in November of 2015 after
going 9-1-0 in their previous 10 games against the Black Bears,
which included a series-high eight-game winning streak
• UVM defeated Maine in a three-game First Round series in 2015,
taking Game 3 by a 3-2 final in overtime as forward Jonathan Turk
scored the OT game-winner with 3:55 remaining.
• The Game 2 loss was Vemont’s first defeat to Maine in Burlington
since Dec. 3, 2011 to snap a six-game home win streak
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
• Maine is 1-6-1 in its last eight games but its last four contests
have been decided by a total of just three goals
• The Black Bears took Merrimack to overtime twice two weekends
ago and then split a home series with Northeastern to close the
regular season, falling 5-4 in OT before winning 5-4 on Saturday
• Senior Blaine Byron leads the squad with 18 goals and 40 points,
while fellow senior Cam Brown has tallied a team-high 34 assists
• Sean McGovern has started 27 of 34 games in net with a 2.94
goals against average and .914 save percentage on the year
• Former BFA St. Albans High School coach Red Gendron is in his
fourth year as the head coach in Orono
CATAMOUNT SPECIALIZATION
• The UVM penalty kill is 36-for-41 over the last 12 games (87.8%)
and now ranks third in Hockey East and 11th nationally at 85.6%
• The unit had a streak of 36 straight kills snapped by then-No. 3
Quinnipiac on Nov. 26, a streak which lasted three weeks
• After notching just 16 total power play goals all of last season,
Vermont has nearly doubled that (30) to rank 20th in the country
• The power play has scored at least once in 23 of UVM’s 34 games
and snapped an 0-for-15 stretch last weekend by going 3-for-6
IT’S A ME, MARIO!
• With a pair of goals Feb. 11 vs. UNH, co-captain Mario Puskarich
became Vermont’s first 50-goal scorer in more than 20 years
• J.C. Ruid ‘97, the linemate of Martin St. Louis and Eric Perrin, was
the last Catamount to notch 50 during the 1995-96 season
• Mario also became the 43rd member of the program’s 100-point
club on New Year’s Eve in a win over Bentley
• He was the first Catamount to reach the century mark since his
former linemate Chris McCarthy on Feb. 7, 2014 at UNH
• The 2014 HEA Rookie of the Year is tied with Kyle McDonough
‘89 for third place all-time in career game-winning goals with 14
• Mario had three assists on Senior Weekend and is tied for second
on the team in points (24) despite missing the first six games
LIGHTNING STRIKES EARLY
• 2016 Tampa Bay Lightning fourth round pick Ross Colton ranks
fifth in Hockey East and is tied for 12th nationally in rookie scoring
• Since the beginning of November, Colton ranks third behind BU’s
Clayton Keller and Patrick Harper among rookies in points (24)
• Keller and Colton are currently the only first-year skaters in the
entire league to lead their team in scoring
• Colton is also a two-time runner up for the Hockey East Rookie
of the Month award in both November and January
• On Jan. 20 vs. UConn, he became the first Catamount to register

• Senior Rob Hamilton posted his first career multi-goal game on
Feb. 17 at No. 7 Boston College, including the game-tying goal
• He is tied for fifth among Hockey East defensemen in goals with

• Only Notre Dame’s Jordan Gross (5) has scored more power play

YOUTH GONE WILD
• Vermont has the 11th-highest scoring freshman class in college
hockey, which now has 83 total points
• Rookies have accounted for 30% of the team’s overall scoring,
combining for 25 goals and 58 assists
• Jake Massie (+7), Derek Lodermeier (+3), Matt Alvaro (+2) and
Matt O’Donnell (+2) all rank top-30 in plus-minus among freshmen
• Colton and Lodermeier are both top-15 in rookie scoring
RANKED CATS
• Vermont has now been ranked nationally for 14 straight weeks
• UVM is currently 19th in the Pairwise Rankings, which determine
the 16-team field for the NCAA Tournament
• The Cats have been ranked as high as 11th on two occasions in
the USCHO.com poll, and they sit 14th overall this week
• The USA Today/USA Hockey poll on Dec. 12 marked Vermont’s

SUCCESS AT THE DOT
• Since the second weekend of February, Vermont ranks 18th in the
nation in faceoff winning percentage (52.2%)
• Derek Lodermeier has won nearly 60% of his draws in that span
(64-for-107) after going 32-12 at the dot against UNH (Feb. 10-11)
• Ross Colton has a 54.4% success rate in the last three weeks
THE LEKKAS FILE
• Stefanos Lekkas has been named one of 23 semifinalists for the
65th Walter Brown Award, which is presented annually to the best
American-born college hockey player in New England
• Lekkas is the first Catamount goaltender to be nominated as a
semifinalist for the award since Rob Madore in 2010.
• The rookie has received a total of six Hockey East awards this
year and was the Most Outstanding Player of the Friendship Four
• The Elburn, Illinois native won three different Hockey East awards

• The 16 wins for Stefanos Lekkas are the most by a UVM rookie
since Joe Fallon’s 17 during the 2003-04 season
• Lekkas ranks 10th in the country among freshmen netminders in
winning percentage (.638) with a 16-8-5 record
• In a year of standout freshman netminders, he is also sixth in
victories among all NCAA first-year goaltenders

PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON
• With nine goals and 16 points, sophomore Craig Puffer has tripled

• The Catamounts came back from 2-0 down to beat UMass 4-2
and coasted past third-ranked Quinnipiac 5-1 on Nov. 26 to win
the Belpot Trophy as champions of the second annual Friendship
Four at SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland

• Credentials will be left at the Gutterson Ticket Office for pick
up on gameday, beginning one hour prior to faceoff
MEDIA INTERVIEWS
• All men’s hockey interview requests must be arranged through
Alastair Ingram in the Media Relations Office
• Please contact Ingram to arrange interviews early in the week
with at least 24 hours notice in advance
• Kevin Sneddon and Vermont student-athletes are available on
Wednesday mornings at 11:45 a.m. during the season
• Please contact Alastair Ingram to make arrangements for
phone interviews; Please note that student-athlete phone numbers will not be given unless there are unique circumstances
POST-GAME INTERVIEWS
• The Vemont locker room is closed to all members of the media
• Kevin Sneddon will be available in the Bostwick Room on the
main concourse following the game, and select student-athletes will be available after a 10-minute cooling-off period
• With the exception of live television, student-athletes are not
available until the conclusion of the cooling-off period
• Please make post-game player requests through Josh Parker
• Interviews with the visiting head coach and student-athletes
should be arranged through the visiting SID in Press Box 4
