Tom Stevens selected to play rugby against England U16A XV Congratulations to Tom Stevens who played very well at Number 8 against the England U16A rugby team on Saturday 23rd February at Hartpury College. This builds on Tom's impressive season, having played so well for the 1st XV and having toured with the South West rugby squad to Ireland over the Christmas holidays. 2006 1st XV Captain Dominic Shaw selected for England Students XV Congratulations to Dominic Shaw. Having captained the school 1st XV and the South West U18 team, he is making the most of his time at Newcastle University. Attached with the Falcons, he is in the second year of a dentistry course and now relishes the chance to play against the French team. MCS dominated the first twenty minutes, scoring the first try through an excellent handling movement which was finished off in the corner by Tom Burrows. Storm Pearton converted from the touchline. Henley then scored a penalty from in front of the posts and pulled away to an 8-7 lead after a score from their left wing. With five minutes of the first half remaining the mobile MCS pack exerted more pressure on the Henley goal line, resulting in winger Jonathan Campbell scoring from a chip ahead. In the second half MCS weathered a determined period of pressure from Henley, who failed to cross the resolute MCS line. MCS spent the last 15 minutes in the Henley half, securing excellent lineout ball from second row Tom Stevens. This was the 9th win of the season for MCS, who have recorded excellent wins against : 15-10 vs RGS Worcester, 26-13 vs KE VIth Stratford, 18-12 vs Dean Close, 22-6 vs KE VIth Southampton, 29-13 & 10-8 vs Shiplake, 29-3 vs Reading and 10-6 vs Cokethorpe (County Cup Semi-Final) MCS U12 extend their unbeaten streak with a win vs Abingdon U12 A XV MCS won 10-7 in a closley fought match away at Abingdon, with tries from Giles White and Hal Stevenson. Above: Hal Stevenson scoring the winning try for the U12 A XV Rugby: U12A and U16A aim for unbeaten season MCS U12A XV & U16A XV Rugby Teams Aim For Unbeaten Season The MCS U12A XV have begun their season in style, winning all three matches: 21 - 10 vs The Dragon, 27 - 0 vs KE VIth Southampton and 10 - 0 vs KE VIth Stratford. The MCS U16A XV rugby team are also unbeaten, winning all five of their matches: 34 - 0 vs Dean Close, 54 - 0 vs Reading Blue Coat, 15 - 8 vs Akeley Wood, 19 - 15 vs Wellingborough and the Perse 20 - 17. Rugby: MCS host RFU coaching course and 1st XV beat RGS Worcester Rugby on Saturday 1st September 2007 1st XV win vs RGS Worcester (2 tries for open-side flanker Tom Ducker, one for full-back William Hammond). MCS host RFU coaching course MCS hosted a very successful RFU staff development course on Tuesday 4th September. 23 staff from schools around the county joined the MCS staff for some very informative clinics run by top RFU coaches Lynn Evans, Jason Bowers and John Vaughan. Rugby: 1st XV and U12A victories against KEVIth Southampton 1st XV Rugby win 22-6 vs KEVIth Southampton This was the fourth win of the season for the MCS 1st XV. MCS trailed 6-3 at half time, despite controlling many aspects of the game. Five minutes into the second half Nick Gardner secured a determined captain's try from five metres out to put MCS 8-6 in the lead. Storm Pearton and Robbie Blencowe then secured the win with two excellent team tries. William Hammond added two conversions to his first half penalty, allowing MCS a deserved 22 - 6 win. U12 A XV win 27-0 vs KEVIth Southampton This was the first match for the U12 team, with three tries from Rafe Senior-Garrett and a try each for Giles White and William Spencer, who added a conversion. The A and B teams now look forward to their next match vs KEVIth Stratford National 2007 Rugby 7s Under 16 & Senior Success National 2007 Rugby 7s Under 16 & Senior Success Both Under 16 & Senior teams won all of their group matches The Under16 team beat Queen Elisabath High school 17-10, Future Hope 54-5 and Isleworth & Syon 24-12 to win their group. They then beat Lincoln Minster 19-17 in the knock-out stages to reach the last 16 – losing to Epsom college. The young Senior side beat Hitchin 36 – 5, king’s Worcester 19 – 12, Taunton 33 – 21 & Kelly College 22-5 to reach the last 23, where they lost to Sevenoaks. Nine of the 11 man squad were in the Lower Sixth, which bodes well for next season's 1st XV. George badger the U16 captain
