At the age of seven, one day I wasn’t very well and my mother sent me to spend the day with my nanny. When I arrived at her house the curtains were drawn and solemn music was playing on the radio. She told me that King George VI had just died and his daughter Elizabeth was now our Queen. Nanny went on to explain that she felt God had been instrumental in her father taking over from his brother Edward VIII, who after being made King had later abdicated. Nanny and many others like he, felt he was a Nazi sympathiser and would never had led the country as well as the late King. The King it was, she told me, who brought this nation to prayer at critical times during the war, and she hoped the new Queen would serve her country as well as he did! Well nanny, you needn’t have worried, she has served this county and the Commonwealth extremely well throughout her reign. She has also served her Saviour equally as well, and I for one thank God for a Monarch that is faithful to her people and faithful to her God. We as a nation have been blessed to have such a godly woman ruling over us and I can honestly say that I pray very often. God Save the Queen. 10TH, 11AM CAFÉ CHURCH TAVERHAM VILLAGE HALL Pastor Vic Ready 17TH, 6.00PM PRAYER MEETING TMVH The Servant Queen and the King she serves Sunday 12 June, 10.30am Taverham Village Hall Join us for an indoor street party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday. I am working from the House of Genesis offering residential care and support for men who have left prison. We want to expand the work to support those who are accommodated elsewhere. My role is to recruit and manage volunteers who will meet people as they come through the prison gate, and work with those who have expressed a desire to change their lives and want to break the cycles of behaviour that sees them returning to prison. Could you be a volunteer? Do you have an hour or two each week to offer support to someone? Help them get to vital appointments on time? Help them to settle back into life with their families? Could you be part of a prayer team? Are you a trained counsellor who could offer 1:1 sessions? Do you have men’s clothing in good condition to enable men to change out of their prison clothes as soon as possible? Please pray for the following: •G od will continue to give me divine appointments with crucial people. • I find favour with people wherever I go, but especially with Prison Governors. • Volunteers to come forward to help with the work and for funding to cover the expenses. • Most importantly for daily opportunities to share the Good News with those that I meet. Thank you. ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew 25:40 The Besom in Norwich was formed in 2003 as the first “Local Besom” in Norfolk made up of a group of volunteers, from different Churches and different denominations. The Besom is a national movement of Christians who wish to encourage other Christians to recognise the needs of people in our communities. We encourage Christian groups or individuals to pray and as they feel led to donate, time, things and money to help meet local need. The Besom has helped families and individuals with essential items for their home such as beds, bedding, washing machines, and kitchen items. They have helped people with garden clearances and much needed DIY work. These small acts have made huge differences to the lives of so many people in Norwich. If you have items you would like to donate, or would like to get involved please email: enquiries@ thebesominnorwich.co.uk For more information please visit: www.thebesominnorwich.co.uk
