At last, Private Health Cover Designed for Clubs and Players
Dear Club Administrator
In 2011, the AFL, the AFL Medical Officers’ Association, JLT Sport, other leading sports bodies and GMHBA launched
a new type of health insurance specially designed for Australian footballers and Clubs. FIT Health Insurance is the
official health insurer of the AFL and helps support the health of community footballers. FIT and offers the following:
1.
FIT provides affordable, attractive health cover for your Club’s players. FIT pays higher benefits for things a
footballer is most likely to use, picks up medical costs not covered by Club’s personal accident insurance (see
table on the back of this letter) and provides cover for things the player and their family might need from their
health insurance. For example:
We pay higher benefits for knee arthroscopes, ankle, knee and shoulder reconstructions and for surgery to
repair fractures to the collarbone, hand, wrist and finger;
We have amongst the highest annual limits for physiotherapy. If a player has hospitals and extras cover
and sees a Sports Specialist or Sports Titled Physiotherapist, they will get back 90% of the cost up to their
annual limits;
Depending on the cover selected, players can claim back 100% of their Ambulance Subscription;
We cover dental (including no gap dental check-ups up to annual limits) for the whole family and pay
additional benefits for dental when a player’s teeth are damaged while playing Club football
2.
FIT can be used to attract and retain players. Players joining FIT on a combined cover (excluding Base Hospital)
by 1 April 2011 can claim up to $200 back towards their Club membership. FIT can also be purchased by Clubs
at group rates and offered to players as an incentive to join or stay with the Club.
3.
FIT can be used as a fundraiser for your Club. FIT will give Clubs substantial cash incentives, if players, trainers,
families, sponsors and friends join FIT. Clubs will earn $4,500 for every 20 FIT hospital and extras cover
memberships purchased (50% on signing plus a further 50% after 12 months). And, Clubs can continue to make
money the more memberships they sell. FIT pays your Club an additional $2,500 for a further 10 members (and
every 10 thereafter).
2011 Special Offer
To help kick off the 2011 season, for a limited time FIT will also offer Clubs the following:
1.
100% of the cash incentive will be paid on signing the 20 members. So you don’t have to wait 12 months to
receive half of the incentive. Please note this expires 1 April 2011.
2.
Clubs who refer the most members with combined cover during April will receive an additional $5,000.
3.
Clubs who refer the most members with combined cover during March will receive an additional $5,000.
4.
Members who join FIT before 1 April 2011 will have a “rate guarantee” until 1 April 2012. So their premiums
won’t increase until 1 April 2012.

Can you afford to be without private health insurance?
The table below highlights the high cost of some significant football injuries, and the out of pocket expenses to
players if they don’t have private health insurance and rely on your club’s personal accidence insurance.
It also shows what the gap is likely to be if the player is covered with FIT Health Insurance.
