Yemen's state-owned PEC, under the Ministry of Electricity and Water, operates an estimated 80
percent of the country's generating capacity as well as the national power grid.
The Public Electricity Corporation (PEC) is the largest 100% state owned and most widespread
industrial unit in the country.
PEC maintains assets worth billions of riyals and employs no less than 9,000. PEC customers are
around 28% of the total population.
The PEC distributes electricity in the national grid through two 132Kv transmission systems, one
serving the northern region of Sanaa-Hodeidah-Aden, the other serving Mukalla and Hadramout.
Alleviating Yemen's electricity shortage, through reform, expansion and integration of the country's
power sector through the privatization of all domestic generators (5-20 MW) small-scale privatization
and independent (private) power projects (IPPs).

Supply Electricity
Public Electricity Corporation – Unified Electricity Net

The unified net is being linked up through lines of – high pressure – 132 kilo volt which
streamlines across towns that are linked with additional net throughout mediating / sub – lines in
towns and at towns surroundings ( 33 kilovolts) , and which are connected to the distribution
devices with (15 / 33 and 11 / 33 kilo volts ) transformers.

The individual share from the electric power in Yemen is 108 kilowatts/ hour in the year.

Reasons for low rates of power beneficiaries along with low rate of the individual share, in Yemen
are related to hard economical circumstances and low individual income for the individual.

The government has reached out to international development agencies for new electricity
projects and there has been some upgrade and maintenance carried out. However, the demand
is still much higher than available capacity.
