What is Oregon’s
“Move It” Law?
It’s as easy as 1 - 2 - 3!
1. Check for injuries.
If the driver is injured, you
are not required to move the
vehicle. Call 9-1-1.
2. Move it!
If there are NO injuries to
the driver and the vehicle is
operable, you MUST move the
vehicle off the highway to a
shoulder or parking area.
3. Report the crash.
Notify the appropriate
authorities, if required,
as stated in ORS 811.720.

ORS 811.717 states the following:
1. The driver of a motor vehicle commits
the offense of failure to remove a motor
vehicle from the highway if, after an
accident:
a. The driver has not suffered any
apparent personal injury;
b. The motor vehicle is operable and
does not require towing;
c. It is safe to drive the motor vehicle to
a designated parking area along the
highway or shoulder of the highway;
and
d. The driver does not move the motor
vehicle to a designated parking area
along the highway or shoulder of the
highway.
Move it!
(It’s the law.)
2. The offense described in this section,
failure to remove a motor vehicle from the
highway, is a Class C traffic violation (2007
c.664.4)
