Team Handball Tips
1. This unit has been written for students who already have had soccer and
basketball and have developed most of the skills necessary to immediately enjoy
getting into team handball. Lessons change insignificantly from one grade to
another. They simply review with a mind to getting students into the game as
quickly as possible. The unit is quite short. As a result, we may want to have
students assess themselves. A quiz concludes each unit for each grade level.
2. Follow the lessons that combine skills and knowledge acquisition with the game.
3. Review skills with attention to what makes them different from the sport they
originally were learned in.
4. Get students into the game immediately
5. Develop a short tournament, using a different approach to team selection that
means changing teams each day and having a different person assume the
captainship. This allows each student to be a captain for a day.
6. If students are unable to participate fully in class, remember that they can be
involved by coaching, officiating, keeping score, or conducting a research
project.
