General installation prerequisites and best practices for CA BSI version 8.2 and 8.2.5 Description: The following sections describe the Pre-installation and general best practices to install CA Business Service Insight 8.2 and 8.2.5 Note: The below information is for a single-tier server but please note that single tiered servers should be installed entirely in 32-bits including the OS. This is due to Oracle requirements. Only use 64-bit OSes if the database is remote. This section contains the following topics: • Pre Installation MS Windows 2008 R2 (assuming the database is remote since this is a 64-bit OS) • General Best practices • Sample of the Oracle Installation • General Best practices Pre-Installation MS Windows 2008 Options Before we can get started in the installation of CA BSI there are some prerequisites that must be done, CA BSI has same roles under the windows environment that have to be installed and that this doc will show you how it can be done, step by step with an example that will guide you. The roles that we will be adding under the Windows are IIS (web server), Net (Application server). NOTE: 8.2 and above will install some of these roles for you. So following these instructions may include more steps than you really need. However it never hurts to install them manually and make sure you do not have any problems with the roles so that when you do install BSI you have a minimum of pre-requisites before the main software package gets laid down. Step: Run the Initial Configuration Tasks to add the Roles Click Start and enter “oobe.exe” In the Customize this Server, in the Add roles, you will add the next roles, like in the screen short: Adding (Application Server) you will have a pop up that will show you the Add features required for the Application Server Adding Web Server (IIS) In the next Screen Select the roles services: In the next screen where you carry on with the Role Services, you must verify that they are select: Note on installing .net: Please note that the role installs .NET 3.5.1. While BSI requires 3.5.1, the newer booklet add-ins for Microsoft Word require .NET 4.0. You can install them both but .NET 4.0 must ONLY be installed after 3.5.1 or else you will not be able to install 3.5.1. Therefore, if you have .NET 4.0 installed you must uninstall it before laying down this role. Once this role is installed then you can manually install .NET 4.0 but the BSI install will also do this for you during the prerequisites so it is not needed. In the next screen, it will show the roles that are about to be install. When finishing the adding of the Roles Pre-Installation MS Windows 2003 Options Just as the roles install IIS, MSMQ, and .Net for Windows 2008 above, these options should be installed for 2003. CA BSI 8.2 will install MSMQ and .NET for you but you do need to install IIS and it can be helpful to manually install these options to be sure they are installed properly. General Best practices In order that Windows works well it is recommended that you apply all the Windows Update General Best practices Under the User Account Control Settings (UAC) set the option to “never notify” or” disabled” This will prevent us from having to deal with pop-up notifications during the installation of the CA BSI. This is for convenience and is NOT a requirement. • Control Panel • User Accounts • Change User Account Control settings • Disable Important: To active this option the server must be rebooted General Best practices Before you start with the Installation of Oracle or the BSI it is highly recommended that you look at the roles that are installed and working. Under the Server Manager – under the roles you can see what the roles are installed NOTE if you find that there is a role that is not installed; please Add roles Services using the “Pre Installation MS Windows 2008 R2 “at the begging of this Tec doc. Sample Oracle installation Only now we are in step to install the Oracle, for this there is a CA Support Tec Doc: Document ID: TEC545240 Title: Installation of Oracle 11.1.0.7 (32-bit) on Windows 2008 r2 (64-bit) geared towards providing a base for the CA Oblicore Database install (from previous versions). https://support.ca.com/irj/portal/anonymous/kbtech?searchID=TEC545240&docid=545240 Please note that in current 8.2 and 8.2.5 versions of BSI we ONLY support the Oracle client 11.2.0.3. If the database is on the same server then it should also be 11.2.0.3. If it's remote then you can still use 11.1.07 or 10.2.0.5 but the client must be 11.2.0.2 (it will support reverse compatibility). Also, Oracle has said they will no longer support 32-bit Oracle on a 64-bit platform for the database (If it's the client only this is still ok). Best practices After you have installed the Oracle, we used to recommend that you install the Loopback Adapter if the database was on the same server. This was a recommendation that Oracle used to make for versions prior to 11.2.0.3. This recommendation was made to improve performance. They no longer make this recommendation but it does not hurt to set this up anyway. If you choose to do this the steps are below: • Click Start and enter hdwwiz in the Search box. • In the wizard can help you install other hardware, select Install the hardware that I manually select from the list • From the list hardware type, select Network adapters • In the Select Network Adapter windows: Manufacturer: Select Microsoft. Network Adapter: Select Microsoft Loopback Adapter. Note: we have to configure the Loopback configure it with a Static IP, Example With this you have created the Loopback. General Best practices Note: 1 Please add the IP and the HOST_SERVER_NAME in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts Example under the hosts file, add this line but put in the Server name under LOCAL_SERVER_NAME: 10.10.10.10 localhost LOCAL_SERVER_NAME Note: 2 When we install Oracle under Windows x64, we need to set the Oracle Home, before the installation under Windows R2 x64. While this is not a requirement, Oracle might reference this variable depending on how you configure it. Note: 3 Please verify that the Listener is created “Listener” and the Service Naming “BSI” is created, for this run the Oracle Net Manager: Note: 4 In some cases, a regional Language setting other than English sometimes changes certain installation commands and disrupts the installation. 1. Before installing CA Business Service Insight, you must change your regional settings to English (USA). 2. Install according to the procedures described in this Guide. 3. Reboot. 4. Revert to your local regional settings. 5. Reboot. 6. Use CA Business Service Insight Note: 5 In some cases there was an Oracle bug which prevented the 11.2.0.3 Oracle client from registering all of it's files properly in Windows. If you find after the full install that the BSI webpage is not coming up due to connection problems with the database (such as a provider not found error). Then make sure that you installed the client from the full 11.2.0.3 image and not from the instant client (since we require OLEDB which is only available on the full 11.2.0.3 client install) and you can force register the missing file with: cd into <OracleHome>\bin\ and from that folder run: regsvr32 OraOLEDB11.dll
