“Thomas Ramey quit praying a few years ago
when he was 16 years old because it didn’t
seem to matter.
That is true of many teens, who grew up
praying, going to houses of worship, and
studying religious texts. As 6-year-olds, they
were convinced there was a God and heaven
and that everything in the Bible was true,
for example. Now they aren’t so sure.”

Jesus answered and said to him, “What I
am doing you do not understand now, but
you will know after this.” Peter said to
Him, “You shall never wash my feet!”
Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash
you, you have no part with Me.”
John 13:7-8
“Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not
just my feet but my hands and my head as
well!” Jesus answered, “Those who have
had a bath need only to wash their feet;
their whole body is clean. And you are
clean, though not every one of you.” For
he knew who was going to betray him, and
that was why he said not every one was
clean.
John 13:9-11
“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have
washed your feet, you also should wash one
another’s feet. I have set you an example
that you should do as I have done for you.
Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater
than his master, nor is a messenger
greater than the one who sent him. Now
that you know these things, you will be
blessed if you do them.”
John 13:14-17
“Not that I have already obtained all this,
or have already arrived at my goal, but I
press on to take hold of that for which
Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and
sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have
taken hold of it. But one thing I do:
Forgetting what is behind and straining
toward what is ahead, I press on toward the
goal to win the prize for which God has
called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:12-14

David Griffith: Ya like stoning people to
death if they do work on sundays: Exodus
35:2, or not allowing women equal rights
and silencing them: Timothy 2:12 or
Genesis 22 (which is also a story about
offering up children for sacrifice), endorsing
genocide: Samuel 15:3, endorsing
murderous revenge: Psalm 137, endorsing
slavery: Peter 2:18.
That book's a real keeper.
This proposal pleased the whole group.
They chose Stephen, a man full of faith
and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip,
Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and
Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to
Judaism.
Acts 6:5
Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and
power, performed great wonders and signs
among the people. Opposition arose,
however, from members of the Synagogue of
the Freedmen (as it was called) -- Jews of
Cyrene and Alexandria as well as the
provinces of Cilicia and Asia -- who began to
argue with Stephen. But they could not
stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave
him as he spoke.
Acts 6:8-10
Then they secretly persuaded some men
to say, “We have heard Stephen speak
blasphemous words against Moses and
against God.” So they stirred up the
people and the elders and the teachers of
the law. They seized Stephen and brought
him before the Sanhedrin.
They produced false witnesses, who
testified, “This fellow never stops
speaking against this holy place and
against the law. For we have heard him
say that this Jesus of Nazareth will
destroy this place and change the
customs Moses handed down to us.”
Acts 6:11-14

“The final estimate of men shows that
history cares not for the rank or title a
man has borne, or the office he has held,
but only the quality of his deeds and the
character of his mind and heart.”
Samuel Logan Brengle, Salvation Army, 1933
