A facelift for publications
The front-page design of FSO publications will undergo
a facelift for the anniversary year: just as statistics
transform "reality" into numbers, pixels can transform
front pages.

The basic questions
•What happened with the FSO since the creation of the
office? Which highlights can we isolate in that long
time? How can we define highlights?
•Where do we find documents? What has been left
from this long history?
•How can we present it to the great public without big
money? Will it be interesting for not specialized
people?
•Which media are we going to use? In the timeline
where had to introduce texts, photographs, but also
films and sound.
•How to initiate interest for the history of FSO? In this
question we are still working on…

Creating a timeline
•The idea of a timeline is to present several types of
documents in a chronological order. We had texts,
publications, photographs, films from different
sources : principally
•National Archives, several libraries
•Our one archives of the statistic office
•Archives of newspapers: Neue Zürcher Zeitung,
Gazette de Lausanne, le Temps.
•We called it the Chronostat and you find it on the
web. There you find the minutes of the parliament
about the FSO, the law texts, the portraits of the 13
directors, films about the different census since 1930,
and so on.
