Release date:6/30/2014
Kampala, Uganda – 23rd June, 2014
MTN hosted a spectacular Golf Day in Kampala on Friday, 20 June 2014 to the excitement and enjoyment of
its corporate customers, suppliers and valued guests. After much hype and excitement, the Grand Jeep
Cherokee 2014 which was provided on Hole Number 9 as the Hole-in-One prize was not claimed by any
player on the day, but definitely turned a few heads.
The MTN Business Golf Day is certainly one of the most well planned Golf Days in Uganda and players are
extremely fortunate if they are included in the 35 4-Ball team gunshot start golf day. MTN ensures that all
players are catered for on the day with the best quality golf kit and entertainment on and off the field.
While many players on the day assisted the financial performance of Titleist Golf Balls due to the number of
balls they will have to buy to replace the many balls that will be found around Uganda Golf Club over the
forth coming weeks, Ernst Fonternel, Chief Marketing Officer at MTN Uganda, got a birdie when a Uganda
Malibu stork made off with his ball on Hole Number 5. The day certainly had many pleasant surprises
installed and the guests enjoyed great conversations with business colleagues, partners and suppliers. MTN
Business specifically hosts this Golf Day to ensure that we create a networking platform, for us and our
customers, in a relaxed environment.
Celebrated by many as the Number 1 Golf Day in Uganda, the MTN Leadership Team joined in the fun with
their invited corporate customers. The game followed a shotgun start at 11.30am on Friday, 20 June 2014
and a sumptuous brunch paved the way for great day of golf.
The 4-ball team from Huawei emerged overall winners in the 2014 MTN Business Golf Day played at Kitante
Golf course and each member received a side-by-side door refrigerator each valued at Ugx 3.6 million,
courtesy of MTN Uganda.
Playing off a 17 handicap 17, team Huawei comprised of Chinese Ambassador to Uganda Zhao Yali who
registered 34 stable ford points to boost Rong Xing’s 41 point, Wu kun’s 30 and Huang Wei Zhong’s 27
points to a total of 105 points that catapulted them to the top of the corporate teams.
The Sheraton Kampala Hotel team emerged runners-up with total scores of 103 points. The team comprised
of David Sekitoleko with a score of 36 points, John Kasangaki 34 points, Anthony Okullu 33 points and
Patrick Mugisha 31 points, each walking away with a double door fridge.
Hima Cement team who emerged second runners-up each received a deep freezer.
Gloria Mbaguta was named the biggest individual achiever of the day, receiving a Home Theatre system for
longest drives and a double door fridge.
This year, MTN had staked bigger prizes which included; a Brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee 2014 for this
year’s “Hole-in-One” prize which eluded all the golfers, and another 50 million worth of prizes including the
latest side by side door fridges for the 1st 4 ball team, double door fridges for the 2nd 4 ball team and deep
freezers for the 3rd ball winners. Besides great snacks and drinks placed strategically around the course,
there were also 6 Longest Drive prizes and 2 Nearest to the Pin prizes with two of which were dedicated to
Ladies and indeed went to Gloria Mbaguta and Eva Magala.
As the day winded down the MC Salvador took the jovial guests through his unending flood of jokes, Musical
doctor, Jose Chameleon and Irene Ntale thrilled the golfers with their jigs as the dining and dancing
continued throughout the night.
For the last 5 years MTN Uganda has generously invested in the game of golf which dates back to 7 years
ago when MTN started sponsoring MTN Monthly Mug that runs throughout the golf calendar. MTN’s support
for golf has not withered as it has brought you the MTN Business Golf Day where corporate golfers get a
chance to exchange ideas while enjoying a game of golf.
Welcome to the New World of Business.
