The usual setting for a Texas TechTexas women's basketball game
won't be in place today, but don't
think for a second that it's not a
crucial matchup.

"You go home 4-3 or you go home 3-4. And in this league, that can
make a big difference," said Tech coach Kristy Curry, who will face off
against hall of fame Texas coach Jody Conradt. "It's about to become
judgment time for someone because it's all knotted up. There is about
to be some separation, and you want your separation to be above, not
below."
Tech is coming off a somewhat
successful road trip in which it edged
Oklahoma State, 63-61, and fell to
No. 6 Oklahoma, 86-81, in double
overtime. The Lady Raiders would've
loved to have won both games, but
they came away from the split with
more confidence and more comfort
with their player rotation.
Reserves Patrice Edwards and
Raquel Christian continued to
emerge as consistent producers for
the Lady Raiders during the road trip
and in both games played more
minutes than the starters.
Curry, however, said she still likes
the starting lineup Tech has used for

most of the season. That lineup includes Brooke Baughman, Erin
Myrick, Chesley Dabbs, Alesha Robertson and Jordan Murphree.
In fact, Curry thinks Tech's current rotation is a big reason why the
Lady Raiders have shown improvement as of late.
"I think our team is very comfortable with our rotation right now," Curry
said. "That's a big reason why we're having success, so why change
it? We have no complaints with our rotation."
Texas is expected to start three freshman today in Earnesia Williams,
Brittainey Raven and Carla Cortijo. Williams, a 6-foot-1 forward, is the
second-leading scorer on the team with an average of 9.2 points per
game.
The Longhorns, however, still lean heavily on senior forward Tiffany
Jackson, whose 19.1 points per game is second in the Big 12 behind
Oklahoma's Courtney Paris.
Curry said she is concerned with the energy and aggressiveness UT
displays at every position.
A victory today would be key for the Lady Raiders, who play two
straight on the road next week at Missouri on Wednesday and at
Colorado on Saturday.

"We're starting to see what our identity can be," Curry said. "The next
two weeks are going to be very critical. The cream is going to rise to
the top of the can. What are we going to be?
About the game: Tech and Texas will meet today for the 75th time,
with the Longhorns leading the all-time series 55-22. Tech swept the
two-game series last season for the first time since 2000. The Lady
Raiders also have won the last four meetings at home. ... Fans at
today's game should get a good view of the future of Big 12
Conference basketball. Texas is scheduled to start three freshmen in
Earnesia Williams, Brittainey Raven and Carla Cortijo, while freshman
Jordan Murphree will start for the Lady Raiders. And don't forget about
Tech freshman Raquel Christian, who has come off the bench to score
14 points in consecutive games. ... Fans who purchase any ticket for
today's game only, will be eligible to purchase a mini-pack of tickets for
the last four Lady Raider home games for only $12. General admission
tickets start at $10. The last four home games include Baylor, Kansas
State, Oklahoma and Iowa State.
