Tryout and Team Selection Continued…
Evaluation Criteria:
Basketball consists of individual skill and teamwork and as a result, each player will be evaluated on both. A
set of criteria will be used to evaluate each player. These include:
•
•
•
•
•
•
Full Court Passing Drills: this drill will consist of players passing to teammates while running, passing out
of double-teams and overall awareness of where passes must be made during full court press situations ;
key elements graded include strength, accuracy and location of pass
Ball Handling: this will consist of dribbling through a series of stationary defenders, using cross-over
dribbles as well as dribbling with both the right and left hands; key elements graded will be position of
head and eyes, height of dribble, ball control and speed
Layups: left and right handed layups will be graded; key elements graded will be use of correct shooting
hand, jumping off the correct foot, shots made and speed
Low Block & Outside Shooting: various shooting drills will be used to evaluate players from both the lowblock area and from each side of the free throw lane; key elements graded will include shooting technique,
form and number of shots made
3-on-3 / 5-on-5: players will be matched with others to form a team of three or five players per team; key
elements graded will include defensive positioning, court awareness, passing, shooting and aggressiveness
Other: additional elements that will be considered into player evaluations include hustle, sportsmanship
and teamwork
