Principal’s Corner
The holiday season is approaching us quickly and we have a lot to be thankful for at Dundalk Middle School. Our PBIS
team is sponsoring our annual Winter Wonderland where students can earn “Hoots” for demonstrating positive behavior and
use their “Hoots” to purchase gifts for their family members at the Winter Wonderland. The first quarter honor roll included
147 students (20%). Additionally, we had 20 outstanding students who earned Straight A’s. We were excited to welcome
all of the parents of our honor roll breakfasts. We had 144 family members visit us during American Education Week. The
overall feedback we received was positive regarding our instructional program.
Dundalk Middle School has won two 21st Century grants from the Education Foundation of Baltimore County to support our
teaching and learning. I am excited to share that we earned a grant to support our funding for Grade 6 students to attend
North Bay Adventure Camp. Also, we received a grant to for a 3-D Printing for the Future in our Project Lead the Way
program.
Attendance
Our attendance rate was 94.2% for the first marking period. Currently, our attendance rate has decreased to 93.8%. There is
a strong relationship between attendance and academic success. The state standard for Maryland is 94%. We need to
encourage our students to attend school on a consistent basis. To promote attendance at Dundalk Middle School, we are
going to challenge students to have outstanding attendance. I challenge parents to model the importance of education by
reinforcing excellent attendance.
BCPS One
Our teachers are updating grade reports on BCPS One on a regular basis. This system allows parents to access student
grades, calendar information, and homework assignments. Our morning announcements can be viewed on our website.
This is a great opportunity to increase our school-to-home communication regarding important information and news for our
students on WDMS. Currently, 226 parents have activated their login accounts and are accessing student grades, the school
calendar, and homework assignments. Parents may pick up BCPS One activation codes in our main office during regular
school hours. Please contact the school at 410-887-7018 if you would like us to send the codes home with your child or mail
them to you. This is an excellent opportunity to review your child’s academic progress. Also, important information can be
accessed @Dundalkms on Twitter.
After-School Computer Usage
One of Dundalk Middle School’s goals is to be a resource for our students and their parents. In trying to achieve this goal, I
would like to open our library computer lab on the first Wednesday of every month from 3:00-4:00 PM to parents and/or
guardians, and students. PC computers will be available to use with the BCPS software consisting of Internet Explorer,
Microsoft Word 2007, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher. The librarian will be available
to teach and
assist with learning computer programming skills. Parents may use this opportunity to
type up
documents, research a hobby, look up your child’s grades through BCPS One, or even
work with
your child on their school projects.
Happy holidays to you and your family!

Do you know that our community has a Wellness Center?
The Wellness Center is a school-based health center located at Dundalk Elementary School
(410-887-7099) that cares for acute health problems like sore throat and chronic health problems like asthma and allergies. The Wellness Center also provides preventive care, such as
check-ups and immunizations.
If you would like to learn more about the Wellness Center, please contact or visit the school
nurse. The school nurse can provide you with more information on the services provided at the
Center, the times when the Center is open, and the necessary enrollment packet for your child
to be seen. The Wellness Center is staffed with a nurse practitioner or physician, the school
nurse, and a health assistant.
The Wellness Center provides care to all children, those with health insurance and those without health insurance. Children with Medical Assistance through Amerigroup, Maryland’s Physician’s Care, Priority Partners, and Medstar, can receive services like well child/teen exams,
immunizations, care of acute health problems, and health education at our Wellness Center. If
a child does not have health insurance, the Wellness Center staff can offer help with applying
for medical assistance.

Winter Wonderland
The DMS Talent Show was an amazing success!!! Students and staff put
on a wonderful event that included
musicians, karate, singers, MC’s,
dancing, and fun. Everyone worked
very hard to put on the show, and the
audience was very respectful and
supportive.
We were able to collect lots of
canned goods and collect money to
support future school events. Thank
you to everyone who came out to
support us; we look forward to next
year!!
American Education Week
Success
Many thanks to those parents who visited
their students during November 14-18. It
means a lot to DMS and your children to
know you are interested in their education.
Winter Wonderland is a school-sponsored
event run by our Positive Behavior Interventions Support (PBIS) committee where
students use the HOOTS they have collected to “purchase” holiday gifts for family
members. Items available for “purchase”
are donated from a variety of sources including: staff and community members,
area businesses or churches, and school resources.
This year’s Winter Wonderland will run from
Monday, December 19 through Thursday,
December 22. Students will have the event
made available to them through their physical education classes.
If you are interested in donating items, gift
bags, tissue paper, or gift tags, please contact the school at 410-887-7018. Monetary
donations to fund the event should be written out to Dundalk Middle School.
Lost and Found at DMS
DMS Band
Holiday
Concert
The Dundalk Middle School Music
Department is proud to announce the
Instrumental Music Winter Concert is
quickly approaching. All of our
ensembles will perform on Wednesday, December 14. Students should
arrive no later than 6:00 PM and be in
their assigned seats by 6:15 PM. The
concert will begin at 6:30 PM. Concert dress for all groups is white tops
and black bottoms. Flute tooters
should be in all black.
The lost and found table in
the cafeteria is already starting to pile up with lost coats,
jackets, etc. The items remain
there to be claimed for two
weeks. If your student is
missing something from his/
her wardrobe, it may be worth
a trip to the cafeteria to see if
it has been added to the heap.
Students have been working hard on
their music. We look forward to
seeing everyone at the concert!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!!!
PTSA News
We would like to start by thanking our parents and guardians who
helped with American Education Week snacks, the Chick fil A fundraiser, and selling flowers at the Talent Show. A PTSA can’t be productive with just 3 people and we’ve had help from 10 or 12. Thanks so
much for committing your time. We appreciate you.
Our Chick fil A Fundraiser was successful. We made $941.50 for our
student programs at Dundalk Middle. The winners of the top prizes
were: Kira Condiff, Alayiah Morris, and Jenna Darby. Congrats to the
winners and thank you to ALL of you!!
Our next Sweet Frog night is on Monday, December 5 from 12:00-9:00
PM. Please remember to BRING YOUR FLYER OR like the DMS
PTSA Facebook page and use the screenshot pinned to the top of our
wall.
December 7 is our next meeting. It will be held at 5:00 PM. The later
meeting is to accommodate the winter concert that night. Please join
us, have some refreshments, and enjoy the winter concert. We can’t
wait to see you.
Have a safe and happy holiday season!
