Irene Van Dyk is a very good
player and does a lot for the
Silver ferns. I believe that she
would be one of the greatest
players in history as in almost
all of her games she has shot
with a very high average of
around about 90%
*What are the rules to play
netball?*
*Rules*
•
Stepping: You are not allowed to step with the ball. They must always keep their grounded foot
stable.
•
•
Obstruction:
The opposition team to the team with the ball must only defend three feet away. If they go closer
then they will be pulled up by the umpires for obstruction and will have to stand beside, while
they begin to play again.
•
Contact: The opposition team to the players with the ball cannot use physical contact with the
other players.
•
The 3 second rule: You cannot hold the ball longer than three seconds. If you do then you will
have to give the ball to the other team.
•
Throw in: When the ball goes out a player must take the ball, and throw it to a team mate in the
time limit of three seconds.
•
Umpires: There is two umpires in the game and they call you up for any mistakes.
*What are the basics to play netball?*
• Every netball player needs
to be able to catch and
throw a netball. If you

attack and goal shoot),
you must be able to shoot
the ball into the hoop.
You must always stay in
the same place if you are
holding the ball because
you are not allowed to
step with the ball.
*What skills do you have to have to
become a professional netballer?*
•Determination
•Perseverance
•Co-ordination
•Co-operation
•Good reaction time
•Healthy and balanced diet
•Fit
•Teamwork
•Ball skills
•The want to be there
•Energetic and encouraging
•
You must have all the same skills that
you have just been taught but you
always have to keep on practicing at
not stepping, passing, shooting, and
all sorts of other skills played in
netball.
