5 Habits for ERP Systems
ASMC Southside Chapter
November 10, 2015
Mission

Developing one or more of the 5 habits will
develop crucial skills, improve your ERP
experience and contribute to the overall
productivity of your organization.
Why Habits versus Skills?



Time to develop
Time to execute
Time to results
“We are what we repeatedly do,”

More Big Initiatives (People, Process, Technology)
 Enterprise Funds Distribution (EFD)
 Internet Payment Platform (IPP)
 Direct Treasury Disbursing
 Cost Management
 Standard Line of Accounting
Habit 1: Tasks are problems


Learn the basic problem solving methods used in
the business world and pick 1 or 2 that fit the way
you think.
Pick one problem that you are close to, make a
hypothesis and practice the various methods 15
minutes a day
Habit 2: Pre-mortem for risk



Adopt the “pre mortem” as a way to manage risk
Don’t document the risk, describe in great detail
exactly how things can go wrong
Make a team and practice the “pre mortem” and
make it a game to see who can come up with the
worst case outcome
Habit 3: Teach each day



Challenge yourself to teach what you know to a
peer or your team
Block time to create the environment
Add it to your goals and make yourself
accountable
Habit 4: Date your data



ERP systems have more data and combinations
that you can imagine
Make a hypothesis and prove it through the data
Pick one data area and own it
Habit 5: Leave the comfort zone


Respond to at least 5 emails with phone calls
versus email responses
Develop a relationship with another person in
another department (even DFAS counts!) and
learn about their issues
