Safety Information - failure to follow these instructions will void guarantee
and may cause a safety hazard. Read all instructions before mounting your system.
Diameter of the hole into which the ball is installed MUST NOT exceed the diameter of the shank stem by
more than 1/16”. Maximum hole diameter for 3/4“ shank is 13/16” and 1“ shank is 1-1/16”. Never install a
shank without a lock-washer. Always install cotter pin after tightening nut. Never exceed the load rating
of the shank when towing. The 2-5/16” Ball is designed to NOT fit on a 3/4” shank. Do not try to force
a 2-5/16”ball on a 3/4”shank. Never weld any part of a Convert-A-Ball® system to a vehicle. Do not fasten
safety chain or other attachment to ball, shank, nut or stem. It is recommended to remove ball (not shank)
when not in use for towing to avoid weathering and loss by theft. Also, use a regular plastic ball cover or
a Convert-A-Ball® plastic shank cover. Check shank tightness before each use and after every 100 miles of
continuous towing. At each towing hook-up, lubricate ball and coupler to minimize wear. Check to ensure
the coupler does not appear to bind on the ball and will turn freely.
SYSTEM INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1) Always mount shank with the shank hole parallel with the bumper.
2) To prevent shank from turning, insert a punch or screwdriver
into shank hole and hold parallel to bumper when torquing nut.
3) Place lock-washer on the stem and start threading nut.
4) Torque nut to 120 ft. pounds. Install Cotter Pin in stem hole.
5) Before installing, lubricate inside of ball and pin with a light coat of grease.
Place ball on shank and push pin through shank hole by hand.
6) To remove or change balls, push ball pin on the dimple. It may
take a screwdriver or punch to initially push the pin. Pull the
pin through the shank by hand and lift the ball off.
