RCHS GYMNASIUM EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN 1545 Lake Cumberland Highway SERIOUS ATHLETIC INJURY Rockcastle County athletic teams are required to have an external defibrillator (AED) in their immediate vicinity during practices and competitions. An AED can also be found on the front gym wall, as well as in the school’s main office. Activate Emergency Medical Services (EMS) by calling 9 + 911 from a landline phone, or (606)256-2121 from a cell phone PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION TO THE DISPATCHER a. Your name b. Location of the injured athlete- RCHS Gymnasium at 1545 Lake Cumberland Highway c. Instruct EMS to enter the gymnasium from the main gym entrance from the school’s back parking lot area d. State number of individuals hurt if more than one e. Give condition of the injured athlete(s) 1. Conscious or unconscious? 2. Is the athlete breathing? 3. Is the athlete bleeding? f. First aid treatment provided: 1. Splinting of the wound? 2. Care given to the wound? 3. CPR given or AED used? 4. Ice tub submersion? g. Any other information requested by the dispatcher What is my role? Coaches Have designated assistant to contact EMS/911 services as listed above Designate a player to retrieve the team’s AED and First Aid kit in case needed Keep other players away from the injured athlete. Send all players of both teams to their assigned bench area Call the athlete’s emergency contact, bring parent to the sideline if in attendance Should athlete require hospital trip, designate an adult sponsor (assistant coach, etc.) to ride with the injured athlete and remain with that athlete at least until the emergency contact arrives. Athletic Director Assist the coaching staff with the injured athlete Exit into the parking lot to aid in the direction of the EMS to the spot of the injured athlete SEVERE WEATHER Should there be a possibility of severe weather moving into the area, all in attendance should be forewarned of the need to evacuate to the ground floor upon command to do so. Exits should be pointed out to the teams and spectators in attendance before the need to evacuate Evacuating the gym for severe weather situations should take place using the front gym doors located between the gym and the outer front lobby where the school’s trophy case is located. The downstairs emergency exit closest to the boys’ PE locker room should also be used to help expedite the evacuation process. Those in attendance should be taken into the ground floor football locker room/weight room area and remain there until the “all clear” command is issued. Any decision regarding the continuation of the athletic event following a severe weather evacuation should be made by the game officials in consultation with the school administrator or the school’s athletic director FIRE In case of a fire alarm during any athletic activity in the gym, teams, officials, and spectators should follow the Fire Evacuation Routes posted on each end of the gymnasium. Both front gym and rear gym exits can be used, depending on the location of the supposed fire/smoke situation. The building administrator, athletic director, or host head coach shall facilitate the evacuation process and routes of evacuation to use The building administrator, athletic director, or head coach shall call 9 + 911 from a landline phone and report the incident. If using a cell phone, please call (606)256-2121 which will put you in touch with the Rockcastle County/Mt. Vernon 911 call center. Teams, officials, and spectators shall evacuate at least 100 yards from the building and remain until the “all clear” is given to return to the building. Any decision regarding the continuation of the athletic event following a fire evacuation should be made by the game officials in consultation with the school administrator or the school’s athletic director BOMB THREAT Should someone during an athletic event be advised of a bomb threat, all persons (teams, officials, and spectators) should be evacuated from the building immediately, following the school’s Fire Evacuation Routes posted on each end of the gymnasium. School administrator or athletic director should call and report the alleged bomb threat to the Rockcastle County/Mt. Vernon 911 Dispatch Center by either calling 9 + 911 from a landline phone, or (606)256-2121 from a cell phone. Make sure to provide the name of the individual who reported the alleged bomb threat to the dispatcher when calling to report the situation. All individuals should evacuate the building and remain at least 100 yards from the building All individuals shall remain outside of the building until it is ascertained that the building is safe to return to Any decision regarding the continuation of the athletic event following a bomb threat should be made by the game officials in consultation with the school administrator or the school’s athletic director VIOLENT OR CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR Should a person or persons threaten to cause bodily harm or their actions warrant one to suspect that person or persons actions could become violent, the administrator or athletic director on site shall call the Rockcastle County 911 Dispatch Center by cell phone at (606)2562121, or by landline phone at 9 + 911 to report the situation A good description of the individual(s) and their actions be given to the dispatcher The administrator or athletic director will request of the individual(s) to exit the premises immediately, informing them that law enforcement has been contacted and is in route Should the person(s) refuse to exit the premises, request that all other individuals in the immediate area to exit, including the teams, coaches, and officials should the situation warrant it If the facility has to be evacuated due to the threatening actions of an individual(s), a decision to resume the athletic activity will be made in consultation with the administrator, game officials, and coaches from each team RCMS FOOTBALL STADIUM EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN 945 W. All in attendance should be forewarned of the need to evacuate to Rockcastle County High School’s ground floor, in the weight room and football locker room area. Due to the distance between the facilities from the best possible shelter, the decision to evacuate should be made even if there is evidence of incoming severe weather Should severe weather conditions strike too quickly to allow to evacuate to the RCHS ground floor, all team members, game officials, and spectators should file into the restroom and concession stand building, occupying what limited space is available. KHSAA policy states that once the game begins the game officials are then the ones responsible for the continuation of suspension of an athletic contest. However school administrators can order an evacuation of the spectators at any time deemed necessary by that administrator School administration will determine when the “all clear” shall be given before spectators shall be dismissed from their shelter area If the facility has to be evacuated due to the threatening weather a decision to resume the athletic activity will be made in consultation with the administrator, game officials, and coaches from each team BOMB THREAT Should someone during an athletic event be advised of a bomb threat, all persons (teams, officials, and spectators) should be evacuated from the facility immediately, using any and all available exits from the stadium area. Make sure to provide the name of the individual who reported the alleged bomb threat to the dispatcher when calling to report the situation. Attention should be given to the description of the vehicle in which the reported individuals use to leave the premises, or the route taken by the individual(s) should they walk from the premises Should the person(s) refuse to exit the premises, request that all other individuals in the immediate area to exit, including the teams, coaches, and officials should the situation warrant it If the facility has to be evacuated due to the threatening actions of an individual(s), a decision to resume the athletic activity will be made in consultation with the administrator, game officials, and coaches from each team School officials shall do everything possible to avoid any physical confrontation with the reported individual(s). School administrators should then meet with law enforcement agents upon arrival at the scene to discuss the incident and give details and descriptions of the reported individual(s) Should the individuals actions warrant, contact should be made on the next business day with the staff of the Rockcastle County Board of Education to determine what measures to take to ban the reported individual(s) from the school premises, or to file charges RCHS BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL FACILITY EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN 1545 Lake Cumberland Highway SERIOUS ATHLETIC INJURY Rockcastle County athletic teams are required to have an external defibrillator (AED) in their immediate vicinity during practices and competitions.
