different cities. Be sure not to miss them if they come to a city
near you – if you can get tickets, that is.
“For years, we played other people’s songs,” says lead singer

As we know, there are different types of music, like
pop, country, dance, classical and so on. And also there are
lots of bands. Among them, Savage Garden is my favorite.
Have you ever heard of them? This band came from
Australia with two members. In the past few years,
they’ve had many successful concerts and also they’ve had
a few songs in the top ten such as the song "To the Moon
and Back" and "Truly Madly Deeply." At the same time
“Truly Madly Deeply" became a worldwide hit, and it also
achieved number one in the U.S. in January 1998.
I think their songs are wonderful that can make me

1. favorite adj. 心爱的，最喜爱的 (置于名词之前)
例如：

2. how long 多长时间，多久
例如：

3. win an award中的win是动词，意为“赢……，获胜；赢得，
获得（胜利、奖赏、名声等）”。例如：

win也可作名词，意为“（在体育等的）胜利，获胜；成功”。例

5. Most people do.中的do是助动词，用来代替前边刚出现的动
词来避免重复，还有does（第三人称单数）, did（一般过去时）
等形式。例如：
He can cook as well as she does.

I thought she’d come, but she didn’t.
我原以为她会来，但她却没来。
可以和so和neither连用，用于回答。例如：
— I like paintings.
— So do I.
“我喜欢画画。”“我也是。”

6. one of意为“……的一个”，后面与“of +复数名词/代词”连用。
One of my friends got married to an American.

One of the letters was open. 信件中有一封是打开的。
“one of +最高级+名词的复数形式”这一结构是较为常见的，意
为“最……的之一”。例如：

7. the last twelve months中的last是形容词，意为“（顺序、时间）
最末的，最后的”。例如：
the last month of the year 一年的最后一个月

8. appear v. 出现，显出，显露；（在报纸、电视、聚会等上）出
现；登场
例如：

9. go on a world tour中的go on …意为“去……”，后跟名词。

11. miss v. 错过；想念

12. our own songs中的own意为“自己的，其本身的；特有的”，
接在所有格代词之后，强调持有、固有的意味。例如：

13. hope v. 希望
注意hope为不及物动词，后边不能直接跟宾语。
常用结构为：
hope to do 想要……，希望……
hope that … 希望是……，能……就好了

She hopes that I will pass the examination.
她希望我能通过考试。
n. 希望，期待
例如：
It has been his hope to be a tour guide.

14. number n. 数字；数；号码
意为“号码，第……号”时，常略为No.。例如：
Seven, five, and three are considered as lucky numbers.
7、5、3被视为是幸运数字。

15. They are off to a great start.中的off是副词，意为“（走）开，
（离）开”；这句话意思为“他们正（出发）来到一个好的开始
（起点）”。例如：

16. half n. 一半，二分之一
常用结构为：half of + 名词或代词；后跟名词时，of有时可
省略，后跟代词时of不可省略；名词或代词为复数时，后接复
数动词，名词或代词为单数或不可数时，则后接单数动词。如：
