“A Sleeping Church”
I.
Revelation 3:1-6
Jesus knows the true condition of the church
A. In the world’s eyes they enjoyed a great reputation
B. In Christ’s eyes they were spiritually dead
II.
Jesus offers the hope of revival
A. We must wake up to our true spiritual condition
“And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our
salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.” (Romans 11:8)
B. We must build on what spiritual life is left
C. We must return to wholehearted service to God
“He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, but not wholeheartedly.” (2 Chronicles 25:2)
D. We must remember the truth of the gospel
E. We must obey the commands of God
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my
Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21)
F. We must decide to change
“If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked
ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
III.
Jesus warns of coming judgment
A. Jesus coming will be unexpected
B. Jesus coming will be certain
IV.
Jesus promises the faithful
A. They will enjoy a close relationship with Jesus
B. They will honored in victory and purity
C. They will have assurance of eternal life
“Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names
are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” (Revelation 21:27)
D. They will be recognized and welcomed in heaven
“Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 10:37)
