“Council Matters
At its meeting on 9 December, Council
considered the following matters:
- reports from Task Groups were received
– thanks to TG Leaders
- approved out-of-session decisions re
Congregational Meeting from 6 December
and contribution of $200 towards an ad
seeking release of children in detention
- noted that South Woden UC
Congregational Meeting also approved
the “Agreed Principles” of sharing a
minister with WCUC. We now await
ACOMP’s
suggestion
of
possible
ministers.
- asked the Education and Mission TG to
explore the possibility of running an Alpha
course around Easter 2016
- invite the congregation to consider a
Uniting Church appeal to help Syrian
Refugees who will be coming to Australia
soon
- to accept Rev Ross Kingham’s offer to
continue as our Supply Minister to the end
of June 2016
- approved maintenance work to be done
on the Manse, which will continue to be
rented at least until Easter 2016
- approved the Property TG to go ahead
with a quote to resurface the floor in the
main hall and to get quotes for the
replacement of the damaged carpet in the
Chapel and main hall
- noted that the Church Office will be
closed from 24 December to Tuesday 19
January 2016
- decided to make a payment of $15,000
off the Manse loan to reduce the amount
of interest we are paying.
- to hold our next Council Meeting on
Wednesday 24 February, 2016.”
Letter box drop for Christmas - we have
500 cards available for distribution in our
area. Please help us to deliver these in
the same way we did the Craft Show
leaflets. Mark the streets where you plan
to go and take a supply of cards (each
bundle contains 20 cards). Please do not
place them in letter boxes marked "No
Junk Mail" (or similar)."
ECUMENICAL CHOIR
The choir will be performing “A Cantata of
Carols” this year at the following
churches;
SUNDAY 13th Dec
7p.m.
at St John Vianney Catholic
Church Weston.
CHRISTMAS BOWL APPEAL
Burma. Despite the release of
hundreds of children from the
army, boys are still being illegally
recruited from poor families.
There are still currently more than
5,000 child soldiers in the country
being used by the army and
rebel groups.
Donations are
needed to support community
organisers so they can rescue
child-soldiers and help put an
end to that practice.
Extra envelopes are available
from Foyer Tables.
STAMPS
Please keep in mind saving your
used stamps – especially now with
Christmas cards coming in thick
and fast! Please leave plenty of
paper around the stamp – it will be
trimmed later.
CAROLS UNDER THE STARS
South Woden UC will be holding their annual
Carols on Mornday 14 December at 7.30
pm at the Peace shops BYO folding
chair, rug and gold coin to buy candles.

Markham Valley. Pray that the
proclamation of the gospel of Jesus

Blue Christmas Service at Wesley Uniting
Church on Tuesday 15th December at
7pm
You are cordially invited to a reflective “Blue
Christmas’ Service at Wesley.
This gives those who have lost loved ones
during the year (or years before) a chance to
remember and reflect during a busy time.
Also for some they may have been through a
difficult year and simply need a chance to
have space to think and reflect before
Christmas.
This is a simple 30-40 minute service in
which you can light candles for yourself and
others and prepare for Christmas.
All are welcome. Entry will be through the
side door that leads through the foyer to the
church from the front car park.
Any enquiries phone the Wesley Office
(62953680) 10-3pm on work days.
Rev David Thiem will conduct this service
