What is playful teasing?
 Make sure your words do not hurt
another person’s feelings
 If the person looks hurt, be sure to
let them know you were teasing and
meant no harm.
 If the teasing among friends hurts
your feelings, ask your friends to
stop. Let people know how you feel.
Accidental behavior
 What are accidental behaviors?
 Sometimes accidental behaviors may
seem like bullying but they are not.
 Bumping into someone, forgetting to
return borrowed items, spilling
something on someone, and saying
something that was not intended to
hurt another's feelings
Misunderstanding
 What is a misunderstanding?
 Sometimes friends have needs that
are different from our own and it can
feel like bullying.
 Think about a time when you have
asked a friend to play and your friend
said no thanks, I just want to be
alone.
 You get upset because you really
wanted to play with your friend.
Peer conflict
 Is it normal for friends to fight about
different needs and wants?
 Yes! Peer conflicts can be solved.
 We will learn how to solve conflicts
this year!

What we do at EES
 Kindergarten and first grade we focus
on how to be a good friend and
feelings identification.
 In second grade we start to focus on
being a helpful bystander. We also
begin discussing empathy.
 We practice using simple language to
stand up for themselves and others.
