Setting Camp with Brigette (Root)

Questions: Please contact Cross County Head Coach Erica
Twarling by email [email protected] or call/text
(402) 699-3728.
Being a coach’s daughter, Brigette (Root)
Pettepier has been around volleyball since
Day 1. From early days of growing up in the
gym at Giltner, playing setter for her dad Bill
Root at Grand Island Senior High, her
experience at the college level at
Nebraska, and now coaching all levels, she
has been able to see and experience the game from ALL
perspectives. She graduated high school in 2008 and later went
on to play at the University of Nebraska from 2008-2011.
Following graduation with Nutrition & Exercise Science degree,
she continued onto Radiologic Technologist School at
Nebraska Medicine. In 2014, she began her current weekday
position as an x-ray technologist at OrthoWest & Nebraska
Orthopedic Hospital. Since 2012, she has been involved with all
levels of the Gretna Dragons volleyball program under Coach
Mike Brandon. Her and her husband, Zach, currently coach the
14s in the G1 Volleyball club program. Throughout the year, she
also conducts a number of clinics, camps, and private lessons
for players throughout the state. Brigette enjoys teaching a
variety of skills, helping girls to improve in all areas for a
complete game, and especially emphasizing being a
“student” of the game by becoming a smarter player! As a
former setter, she believes that because the setter touches the
ball every time it comes over the net, it is a position that takes
double to triple the time and effort to perfect this delicate skill.
Similar to a quarterback or point guard, a setter is also
responsible for “seeing” the whole team and knowing where
each teammate is at all times, which is also a key part of their
position. She firmly believes that a team can greatly improve
their overall level of play if their setter improves.
