Reading this worksheet Program notes For requirements that offer a selection of courses, there is not always room on the worksheet to include all options. Where a course range is not explicitly listed or includes an ellipsis (“…”) you should refer to the entry for your program in the Academic Calendar for a complete list of options. 1. Mathematics requirements should normally be completed by the end of Year Two. The Mathematics requirement can also be satisfied with MATH 100, 101, 200 and either 110 or 211. 2. Social Sciences courses can be at any level, chosen from Anthropology (ANTH), Environmental Studies (ES), Geography (GEOG), Political Science (POLI), Psychology (PSYC) and Sociology (SOCI), but NOT Economics and NOT the following: ANTH 317, ES 312, 344, GEOG 226, POLI 321, 339, PSYC 300A, 300B, SOCI 271. PHIL 220 or 223 is also accepted for this requirement. 3. Course prerequisites are listed in the Academic Calendar and must be satisfied before beginning any given course. Any listed corequisites must be completed before or at the same time as a given course. Make sure you review the requirements carefully before registering. If you have received a minimum grade of B+ in ENGL 135, 146 or 147, or passed ENGR 240, you do not need to take ECON 225 and can replace it with another elective. ECON 225 is a prerequisite for many 300-level Economics courses and should be completed by the end of Year Two. 4. ECON 245 and 246 (or STAT 260 and 261) must be completed by the end of Year Three. Choosing electives 5. If you choose ECON 454 for the Finance Option, you will need only one of ECON 450…482, and must add 1.5 units of upperlevel Economics electives. 6. Electives can be chosen from any area of study and taken in any year, as long as you meet the prerequisites. Use these courses to explore different areas of study or include a minor or second major. Two of ECON 405B…MATH 477 (for Finance Option) must be included across the ECON 300/400-level or electives chosen in Years Three and Four for the Finance Option. See Economics section of the Academic Calendar for the full list. 7. ECON 329 and 383 will count ONLY as electives in Economics programs. Declaring your program 8. Students wishing to proceed to graduate studies in Economics are advised to include MATH 208, ECON 350, 351, 365, 366, 400 and 401. Please contact the Economics Department for more information. Courses already complete You can find a list of the courses you have already taken at UVic, as well as a list of courses for which you have received transfer credit by reviewing your Administrative Transcript from your My Page account. Pre- and corequisites UVic requires all students to take a minimum of 60.0 units of postsecondary coursework as part of their degree. In most cases, you’ll need only 18.0 to 30.0 units to satisfy the specific course requirements of your major and “elective courses” will make up the difference. After completing 12.0 units of coursework (including transfer credit), you are eligible to declare your program. To declare, complete a program request form through My Page by visiting www.uvic.ca/declareme. Once your request has been approved, you’ll be given access to an online degree evaluation (CAPP) report that shows your progress towards the requirements for your program and the university. You can continue to use this worksheet for planning purposes, but the degree report is your official record. Student responsibility Student standing You are responsible for the completeness and accuracy of your registration and for determining the requirements of your program. Units complete Standing Always read course descriptions before you register to determine if you have the necessary prerequisites, and pay attention to notes on mutually-exclusive and cross-listed courses (pairs of courses in which credit will be awarded for only one). 0 – 11.9 12 – 26.9 First year standing Second year standing 27 – 41.9 Third year standing 42 or more Fourth year standing EFFECTIVE MAY 2017
